Really hard to fathom why we've played so poorly at home this year. I realize NC didn't have a defense to speak of, but I would have put UNLV's defense on similar ground and expected to torch them. Drew walked through NC and BYU away from South Bend, but he just seemed to struggle Saturday. UNLV was playing a single safety in the middle of the field all game, basically daring us to pass on the outside to our receivers and we just couldn't do it. I've been hard on Lenzy since last year, but I admit he has gotten better and this should have been a TD. We've got to work on improve the ball placement on these plays if defenses are going to play a single deep safety. It was a great call, great route, Drew has to make this throw.



Passing game was just a mess Saturday. Good call again, Drew makes the throw this time, just a shame.

People got really frustrated by the fact ND was offering guys late in their recruitments (Ty Simpson, Drew Allar) and then trying to full court press after their decisions were effectively over. It sounds like it actually worked with Walker Howard but he didn't have the academic side ready.

They were never getting Simpson. Allar would’ve been in play if they acted sooner. I wanted Gavin Wimstatt.

Pretty good chronology of how things broke down. Losing both Phil and Clark were unexpected, even if Phil turned out to be less than billed and Clark was meant to be insurance as it was. I think people need to remember that it's still October and '23 recruiting isn't over. The prospects aren't great, but given our roster situation there's still a good chance to flip a solid player or pick someone else up. It's probably not going to be a 5 star talent, but there's also the possibility we land a transfer too. Whoever comes in has a real chance at starting unless Buchner comes back at 100% and lives up to the hype behind a more solid OL.

But HE recruited Pyne who should never have been signed in the first place. And Rees was an idiot for getting played by Dante Moore. Anyone with a brain should know a silent commitment of 3 months means nothing.

Could be wrong but I think all involved will agree it’s time for a change. They won’t need to “fire” him or anything dramatic. Assistants are typically on a one-year deal anyway.
He’ll just get another job, probably in the NFL which seems a better fit to his skills anyway. And Freeman can then go hire his own guy, ideally someone a little older/more experienced.

Doubtful. Chances might increase a tad with a legit OC though. I think he’s extremely injury prone and likely won’t ever finish a season, unfortunately. I think our depth chart for ‘23 is essentially Pyne and Angeli. Buchner is too much of a liability and he’s really not accurate anyways. Rees will be back in ‘23 and Buchner will start vs Navy. That’s my prediction at this point. Not happy about my prediction. I could definitely see us going down in Dublin

Rees recruited Pyne, developed him, and now he’s in his 3rd year. He obviously went into this season confident in his ability to lead ND. Otherwise, you wouldn’t run Buchner 25 times the first 2 games and you sure as shit would have demanded a transfer QB.

I agree that it’s impossible to know everything going on behind the scenes which is why I typically stick to on field production. This is easily the worst offense we’ve had since 2007. The OC deserves a fair share of the blame, especially it being his 3rd year.

Either way I think if they run the offense they’ve run since Marshall, with a healthy Buchner, and the OL and RBs play as they have (not as they did the first two games), we beat Stanford and UNLV easily and feel a lot better about things right now.

Also Rees is the one who was their QB coach too.,Pyne has been in the program for 3 years.. What we see on Saturdays is more of an indictment of Rees than a showcase of Pyne's physical limitations.
We need new Offensive idea's and an offensive coach that seems more agile in his ability to get the most out of his players..I think Rees will be a great coach., ust think the issues we're seeing on Saturdays are more his lack of overall coaching experience.

Lets go find a gun slinging B12 type OC and bring in a QB transfer..preferably one that can at least see over the o-line. Those should be the top two priorities for MF if he wants to succeed

We’re in Day 2 of the Tommy Rees Cycle where some people reconvince themselves that Tommy isn’t responsible for anything that happened on his watch.

Coan wasn’t developed in our system so that’s a pretty long drought. The Mississippi is going dry, something has to change soon. Some fresh rain in Jackson Arnold would be a start.

Yes, they should absolutely continue to visit and give him love. Ignorant not to. By all indications he’s likely our best shot at a legitimate QB this cycle. It also seems that he still has real interest.

Yes, I do think Carr could be the QB of the future. But, NO, I do not think Tommy boy can utilize these two to their potential. It has to be a glaring statistic that Freemen cannot avoid.

Really? Because back in March a LOT of fans were saying that Dante Moore was worth waiting for, even though some of us did think it was a risky move and didn't trust it. This is what happens when the admin doesn't want to play the NIL game though, the coaches did everything they could on their end to nail him. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that.
