Saying Rees doesn’t have a QB ignores the fact he called a game like he has a passing QB

They only threw it 27 times. Not like they went full air raid. You’ve got to have some resemblance of a passing threat.

It isn’t about the number of passes he threw, which ignores sacks. He called a game like Milroe was a top tier passer. He should have leaned more into the strengths but Rees has struggled with that every season until the bye week.

How bad is Ty Simpson that they can’t plug him in as a game manager? Kid was a 5 star.

McElroy won a natty completing six passes in the championship game lol

McElroy was also playing that NC game with broken ribs, which probably had a lot to do with the number of pass plays called.

Did they not offer Hartman a couple mil? Thought that was the conventional wisdom.

They want hard after Tyler Van Dyke at Miami and thought they had him. When he decided to return to Miami (which looks like a good decision right now), they were left in the cold. Hence, Buchner.

Not that I need to tell you this, but that defense was also just ridiculous. Zeus Hightower, Rolando McClain, Mark Barron and Kareem Jackson were first rounders. Javier Arenas was a second rounder, I believe. Terrance Cody, Brandon Deaderick, and Cory Reamer were all NFL players. Just absurd.

It also helped that McCoy's injury effectively allowed Bama to control the game after he went down. Not much Greg M. needed to do that night.

Yeah, that defense was crazy. Marcell Darius was on it too.

BS there were some open receivers. Bama has some real issues. Bringing in Tommy only makes the situation worse.

They have an easy schedule but no way do they not have 2 to 3 losses in regular season. Rees will fail upwards into the NFL and many Bama players will leave to Portal.

We were talking about Bama's '09 defense, not last night's game.

I caught a bit of the game last night. They showed Saban on the sideline and he looked like a deer in headlights.

Usually when Bama brings in new coordinators they still continue to play Bama football.

They'll go 10-2 and get a transfer QB probably next season, they've got the pull and the support to make it happen. There's still a lot of football to play too.

I'm sorry. I don't get how people can defend guys like Tommy. Say whatever you want, much like Kelly, Tommy gave ND the double bird on the way out in my view.

I'm glad he lost his opener as O coordinator. We've got to stop with the "Can't blame a guy for doing what's best for him and his family crap", and regain a little competitive spirit. Kelly, and Rees crapped on ND the first chance they got to go coach in the SEC because that is the sexy place to be a coach these days. And they have both stumbled out of the gate. Good. As a football competitor to ND, I hope they lose every game going forward.

BK stumbled by winning the west and beating Bama in his first year. Terrible job!

You're right, elite football talent and a 10-4 record is a great job. Those big wins against Southern U, New Mexico, UAB, and Purdue didn't help his 10-4 record either did they?

6-4 against the rest. Only 4 of those 6 solid teams they beat even had winning records.

The anomaly was Bama. Congrats Kelly on beating Bama. And congrats on getting manhandled by Georgia, AND, Tennessee, AND Texas A&M, AND FSU this year, now losing back-to-back openers to the Seminoles. But yeah, you're right, he hasn't stumbled out of the gate.

Actually, they finished 2nd in the West. But, hey who's paying attention to facts right?
LSU won the West. Why else would they have played Georgia in the SEC championship game?

I don't care for BK either, but he did somehow win the West last year

Yep. Thats right. I was wrong on that one.

Stumbled into it is how it seemed. We'll see after year two is complete, my guess is the smoke screen will be lifted.

Explain how he gave ND the double bird on the way out?

He left the offense in the best shape it's been in a long, long time. There are NO discernable holes at any position and we're witnessing an explosion of production between our experienced starters he recruited and coached up along with the addition of Hartman.
He stuck around for a year when he had the option to make more money and follow BK.
How long did you think he was going to hang around? He's given 1/3 of his life to ND at this point and he likely has dreams of coaching in the NFL or becoming a HC. Neither of those things he can achieve at ND at this time.

Some of you "fans" are the sorriest lot I've ever seen. He may not be deserving of a statue on campus, but the guy gave a lot back to this university and some people just want to spit on him. You'd think he ran over your cat. As a player he helped break the losing streak to USC, he helped get us back to the national championship, he gave MSU their only loss in 2013 and he won 2 of the 3 bowl games he started. As an OC he knocked off Clemson twice, once when they were ranked #1, got to the playoff, and beat a majority of the ranked teams he faced with half of the losses coming to playoff teams.

I'm sorry, but this is just a shitty ass take toward a former alumni that has only worked to try and help the team succeed. The fact is he's given back to the university more than any of us ever will. Criticize his playcalling or athletic limitations if you want, but if you're going to attack his character or contributions that's just ridiculous.

I’m still convinced there’s more to the story about Tommy leaving than getting the opportunity to work for Saban. The timing and situation just didn’t make sense. Guys accused me of reading too much into it, but I think him and MF weren’t aligned. Just my opinion obviously.

My guess is that MF would repeatedly drop stuff about "the Buckeye Way" and "that's not how we did it at tOSU," like:
  • "That sounds like a good plan for getting to the Fiesta Bowl, but what if we want to win the Fiesta Bowl?"
  • "Look, another 5-star QB recruit going to Columbus . . ."
  • "Aren't Catholics supposed to have a bunch of kids and go to Mass before games? When Luke Fickell was interim HC at tOSU. . ."
And Tommy got fed up, "All I hear all day at the Goog is how great the Buckeyes are at this, or how the Buckeyes did that, its Buckeyes, Buckeyes, Buckeyes!!!"

It was widely reported that BK tried to bring Rees with him to LSU - which I believe is also in the SEC - but he stayed. Largely out of loyalty to Notre Dame's football program.

People have been shitting on Tommy Rees since the 2010 Tulsa game. Thirteen years now. All he did in that time is everything Ulukin said. All he did us wrong in leaving was... maybe poaching Tyler Buchner? Let the man be.
