hell ya... the food is no contest...

Mexican Carne Asada>>> Texas Brisket by MILES!!!! (Brisket is so damn overrated to me... it's lacking this thing I like to call flavor)

Authetic Mexican food>>> Tex Mex by MILES!!!.... MILES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chinese food>>> Cajun (Not hating on Cajun here...just love Chinese... I think there is one Chinese guy in Texas... and his name is Juan)

Calis Spicy flame grilled BBQ at worst matches Texas smoked BBQ (which is overrated imo)

that will be by far the hardest transition... best food in the contry is right here in so cal man. AND there is so much to choose from... But the one thing that will help me is I like to cook and am pretty damn good at it... I have mastered American and Mexican food and am good enough at Chinese to hold me over...

thing about InNOut... I'll miss it but there is a Texas imitation that comes somewhat close called "whataburger"... I swear they bit off INO's recipe, it's a clear attmept at the same thing burger wise... i and its close, the meat is just a tad better here.

Woah there kitty. Texas is King of Carne Asada and Mexican food. And you can get a full meal for 5 bucks that would cost you 15 in Cali. Cali uses weird spices. Texas brisket over Cali over-priced tri-tip any day. For Christ sake, tri tip is the bad part of the cow, and it sells for 6 bucks a pound here in Cali. You can get TBones and Porterhouse for less than that in Texas. You probably have not been to enough BBQ or steak houses in Texas. No comparison. New Mexico prides themselves on their own brand of spices and New Mexican food.

As far as cost of living, you can buy the same sized house in Texas for 1/3 the price you would pay in Cali. I prefer Austin and San Antonio over Dallas/Ft. Worth or Houston. Every big town in Texas has its own personality, all very different. El Paso/Ft. Bliss/Juarez has its own uniqueness. Odd that El Paso is supposedly either the number 1 or 2 safest cities in the country with Juarez right next door. I guess it is the military presence or something, but my impression of El Pasoans is they are surely friendly and get along seamlessly with their Juarez neighbors. Almost like one town split by the river. I never saw the criminal element in Juarez, but then, I stuck to the safe tourist area.

As far as burgers in Texas, you are jumping into burger heaven. Whataburger is good. It started in Corpus Christi and spread out. Good fries, great onion rings. Trust me, you cannot go wrong with Fuddruckers. Period. Fuddruckers. They bake the bread right in front of you and your meal is served within minutes. Any size beef you want. All the fixins at your gluttonous pleasure for the taking, laid out right in front of you.

I am so damn hungry right now...

To each their own...

I've been to many MANY "Best Brisket in Texas" places... all sucked.... SUCKED... Brisket is horrible. If you like the Texture
and want you meat sweat... then it's for you... I must have spice and heat or it's too freaking bland.. American Steak is Steak man... every state knows how to cook it... that's a pointless argument.

Carne Asada in Texas???.... lol... dude go to any ma and pa place in S.D. and order a Carne Asada taco... then you will understand that they do not make Carne Asada in Texas.

I know you can't go wrong with Fuddruckers... it's here in Cali dude... I know of about five different locals in and around L.A.... two in Long Beach alone I believe.

and sorry, Tex Mex is not Mexican... and in comparrison Authenrtic Mexican food is among the best food in the world... whereas Tex/Mex is maybe the worst food I have ever had... it's amazing how someone can take the same basic stuff and ruin it so badly... chile rellenos are not supposed to be deep fried!!!!!!!! Salsa is supposed to be hot... not bland and tomato paste tasting. Burritos are supposed to have flavor... The best Mexican in Texas probably comes from Taco Bell...
;)

open flame beats smoked with juust about eveything but pulled pork... just my taste. and our spices kill Texan spices imo.

New Mexican food is legit, MUCH MUCH better, I love Hatch green chiles and the creamy cheeses... but it's hard to get it past El Paso... and I agree about the people and cost... great togetherness and the only thing I think I will struggle with is the horrid, bland, tasteless, spiceless food.

;)

OK now. Dem's fightin words. Remember, Tejas was Mejico. The fajita originated in San Antonio. The margarita was born in El Paso/Juarez. How the hell else are you supposed to cook a chile relleno other than to fry it? Here in Cali, all you get are prepackaged frozen thawed out things for 12.99 a plate.

Funny that you call Texas salsa bland. I find the EXACT opposite. One of my biggest gripes about the salsa here in Cali is that it is nothing but tomatoes with maybe a dash of salt. Other salsas are killed with cilantro or other silly spices. Nothing like raw fried boiled and mashed jalapeno salsa from Texas. Hot stuff. Lip swelling stuff. The real thing. Cali folks can't take the real thing.

Burritos here are stuffed with beans and rice. WTF? I actually have to ask for "meat only" then get charged EXTRA. WTF? And then they fold the burrito stupidly, fold it into some kind of square.

Double corn tortilla tacos? WTF? That's kinda like putting a slice of bologna between two slices of bread, then wrapped in two slices of bread. And charged two friggen bucks for a taco that is 3 inches in diameter. WTF? Oh wait, there is "taco Tuesday - 2 for one." So you get four, three inch diameter tortillas de maiz with one tablespoon of carne for two bucks. Yippee.

Your problem with brisket in Texas might be that you went to places called "Best Brisket in Texas." Just go to any good steakhouse and order the brisket.

Oh Nuetured, where to begin

Texas does Tex-Mex, its not the same thing. Tex Mex is not good to me, i find it bland and not very good at all. I don't know where your buying your mexican food at but the best taco's i ever had was at a small stand near my old high school, 3 for 5 bucks with chips. Carne Aasad with silantro, hot sauce, gucamole, chees and sour cream. That was the spot after every football game and saturdays when the parties got broken up. Chipotle is not mexican food. I am talking about LA, authentic restaurants, you can get incredible meals on the cheap everywhere in this town, or really expensive if you want to show off.

The reason homes are more expensive in Cali is because PEOPLE WANT TO LIVE HERE. Its Califrnia, LA, SF, SD, there are things to do here. People in London, Rio, Hong Kong and Madrid don't vacation in Houston.

It completely blows my mind to hear that Tex Mex is bland compared to Cali junk. Cali junk is for the lame. "Sopes" seem to be a staple of real Mexico food. I'm talking Chihuahua, Guadalajara, Distrito Federal... Ever tried any sopes? Tried any tortas? Freshly baked francesitos (bolillos)? Menudo?

Even the Spanish speaking waitresses here in Cali call totopos "cheeps". Gimme a break. At least call them "tostadas." All bastardized Mexican food.

LA is nothing but an overgrown smog town with stolen water. Cali is a barren wasteland because of the aqueducts, all leading to smog filled LA.. Notice the immediate change in scenery once you cross the Colorado from Cali into Arizona. Methinks Mulholland fucked up.

Methinks Mulholland fucked up.

Time will tell. I second that theory, however. LA and Vegas=destined for failure

Jason, sell that real estate while it's still worth something and move somewhere with natural resources.

News for you: LA and Bakersfield are the number one and two interchangeable worst in the country, if not the world, for smog and ozone.

We're number one! We're number one!

Inthe world? again, China. And there is more to do here on a Friday night than high school football, that is the real reason they are so "passionate" in Texas

"how else are you supposed to make a Chile R.?!"

this shows you know nothing about Mexican food... chile rellenos are not deep fried bro... the pepers are flame grilled, de-pealed and de seeded, stuffed with cream and peper cheeses, placed in your egg batter and baked... and no, they are not placed on sticks either... something else Texas gets wrong.

and sorry, Texas can't handle heat, that's why our food is too spicy for them and causes many Texans to complain about the heat... and why those from Cali eat their "food" and ask... "ah, isn't there supposed to be flavor?? and or spice??" Because there is none of either in Texas fare. and the complete lack of Chinese food is sad...

I could care less about ozones and such... because I take Texas in almost every other category but food.

oh and Mexico City has been the smog cap. of the world for decades now...

How to Make Chile Rellenos

Relleno on a stick? Now that's funny. Never seen it anywhere.

OK. One more response. Texas and "Tex-Mex" and Mexican food IS THE REAL THING. All others are copies or variations of THE REAL THING. How more "real" can you get than where the friggen food originated? Friggen grotesque Cali Menudo is overpriced and a grotesque unclean copy of solid good tasting Mexican or Texan Menudo. Hell, even a "ChiChis" restaurant in friggen Alexandria Va. is better Mexican food than anything I have had here in Cali.

I became a vegan shortly after I tried the food in Cali. And even that is dangerous, given the dirty dairy air.

Where do you buy your food? Maybe a tourist who comes to Sunset and overpays because they dn't know anything but for those who actually live here this overpriced thing is nonsense, Oh and Cali was once Mexico also. maybe you should get out more and actually eat some real food.

lol. I knew I couldn't get that one past you...

I ate at a pizza place I believe just down the road from the Kodak a long time ago. I can't remember if it was Sunset or Hollywood Blvd. There were 6 of us and we were hungry, so I was upset when my aunt only ordered 1 large combo for all of us. I was stunned when the 'za came out. I could barely finish my one slice because the pizza was so thick. I actually used a knife and fork. I think the place was called "Two guys from Italy" or "Two brothers from Italy." I have never found the place since then. Last time we were on Sunset, we just "settled" for Hooters. I think I had some food.

I'm certainly glad you fellas kept this thread warm for me. Me and my girls just got back from Lubbock. I had to go move my little sisters from one apartment to the next.

Those Tech fans surely aren't buying into Tubberville yet. A ton of alumni I spoke to really miss Leach. This season will be interesting.

and Domer, Rellenos are not supposed to be deep fried... some pan fry LIGHTLY but that is different, you can pan fry them and still retain the flavor and keep them moist... sorry, any authentic Mexican food place out their does not deep fry and put them on a freaking stick... which texas does... ;)

and calling Tex Mex the real deal is like saying Subway invented the hamburger... it's not even the same shit to begin with.

and Jay, this deer is just bitter, it's pretty clear he does not have the stomach to admit Cali's greatness when it coes to food so he makes stuff up about being vegan and hating InNOut n favor of frozen patties from Wendy's.

Yes. Pan fry. Deep fry is the impatient way. Now we are on the same page. I seriously think Cali's collective taste bud is affected by the dairy air. Way too many spices for such simple things. I don't have the stomach for overpriced overspiced Cali simple stuff, thus the turn to fruits and veggies.

I've never heard of, nor seen a "relleno on a stick." Where the hell you eating Boy? Go to a real Messican food place, not a tourist crap.

So we agree... Spice=Flavor... lack there of equals no flavor... Cali has flavor and Texas is the Americna version of Brittish food.

good.

oh and you're not even supposed to pan fry them but at least it doesn't trun them into rocks.

Boys, boys, boys! Settle down, now! I imagine that there are differences in cuisine and preferred cooking methods as well as condiments within Mexico. Are dishes in Oaxaca the same as those in Nogales, Tampico or Cozumel? Wouldn't it be natural that there be differences between Mex-Tex and Mex-Cali? Not to mention the Old and the New Mexicos.

You don't see many arguments about Irish food (though I DO prefer that of the Republic over that of the Six Counties. The stews are more Mulligan-y and the "buh-day-dahs" more potato-y) since the meat – stews aside – tends to be shoe leather eligible and the veggies sippable through a straw. I also prefer Jameson over Bushmills. Not really a Catholic vs Protestant thing, just a "taste" thing.

Most important, though, is that Guinness tops the food pyramid in Eire, be it north, south, east or west.
