ND ran a lot of pistol this weekend, it seemed to really help the rushing attack, especially with Jonas. What do you guys think abou ND using the pistol more?
I loved how fast the offense was moving, regardless of formation. I don't care if it causes a few more sacks, if we're operating at that speed, the running game will gash the hell out of any defense.
Can't really see the downsides to it.
Thoughts on the pistol? It's great.
I personally don't think the read option is as effective for drawing a DE away from a QB keeper. I also would rather be in a more traditional shotgun formation with a RB on pass blocking schemes, only because he's closer to the LOS.
But yeah, the pistol is great for a guy like Jonas Gray.
Agree but give Jonas Gray/Cierre Wood just a chance of a hole and these studs can do the rest. The pistol needs a QB that can run. Tommy is good but he doesnt run. See Kapernick. This o line could make the T formation look good. Not that it matters, but I think the pistol is the future of college football. In shotgun the RB just starts too slowly (no down-hill get off), but under the center the QB can't as easily read the defense and be a read/running threat. The pistol, in theory, combines the best of both worlds.
