Democratic Congresswomen like Feinstein, Harris and Hirono have recently implied that membership in mainstream Catholic organizations like the KoC should disqualify one from public service.

This is unreal. I used to think people really just wanted equal footing but they are marching us straight into the times of martyrdom, white or otherwise. They want to push anyone with differing world views out of the public square and remove their voice. I guess as the pew numbers continue to dwindle and the faithful become lax, there's less "Mob" pressure to keep up the pretense.

This reminds me of the poem by W.B. Yeats, "The 2nd Coming":

As a vocational pastor I have been digging into three questions as of late and wanted to present them to interested IE members for mutual growth. I must admit I come to this discussion with preconceived notions of the correct answers to these questions, but I do feel as though I have much more room to grow in my understanding. The questions were stirred in me as I engaged a DVD series called "True U" by Focus on the Family (a conservative evangelical para church organization). I would love to hear your ideas, feedback and dialogue about the three. Humor is welcome, but please no abusing one another through hateful, degrading or belittling speech. Thanks!

Question #1- Is there a God? (A question of origin)

Question #2- Is the Bible reliable? (That is historically)

Question #3- Who is Jesus? (Real person? Fairy tale?)

(Since these are each huge questions that do not have simple answers feel free to tackle one at a time).

We are all one great thought with inner thoughts that conflict and betray. Let's just try to see the bigger picture, as It really Is. If we are all that different and discuss the differences as truth. How could we see the reality of the other side without feeling the reality of onananother?

If the KoC top brass has any brains at all, they'll lean into this. I'd join in a second if they actually adopted a paramilitary integralist posture. Plus, Catholic military aesthetic is unbeatable:

My Tuesday formation group is reading Thomas A Kempis' The Imitation of Christ for the weeks leading up to Lent. Here's a great quote (the work is full of these):

"If men used as much care in uprooting vices and implanting virtues as they do in discussing problems, there would not be so much evil and scandal in the world, or such laxity in religious organizations. On the day of judgment, surely, we shall not be asked what we have read but what we have done; not how well we have spoken but how well we have lived."

so stripping out the KofC, they are basically labeling the Catholic religion as extremists. how many other religions are now extremists in the eyes of the god-less Left..... I don't share the Vatican's stance on LGBT but I respect the right to believe whatever the hell you want without being labeled extreme. not sure how one could be Catholic and vote Dem....

My opinion on Dolan went south after he tried to hide/protect assets. Didn't care for the 20k incentive payoffs either. They should have steamrolled those peds. If the church wants to protect assets, they need to actually do something to rid themselves of the evil plaguing the church.

Complaining about others painting with a broad brush while doing the same. Interesting. Garrabrad who was taking Harris, Feinstein, ect... to task over this issue is also a member of the “god-less” left and the first sentence of the follow up article Whiskey posted reads “Democratic lawmakers are divided over questions some see as a religious litmus test applied to candidates for the federal bench.“

As to Catholics and their voting habits one could be equally dumbfounded as to why any Catholic would vote for the GOP based on things such as the death penalty, the blantant anti-Catholic/racist rhetoric aimed at Hispanics, the party’s fetishization of guns, the fact that they have eleveated the musings of the anti-God and anti religion Ayn Rand to God like status and on and on.

as to guns....

“Let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy one” (Luke 22:36).

Catechism of the Catholic Church acknowledges the right to use lethal force in self-defense, including on behalf of others, when the use of this force is moderate—i.e., when it is not practical to use less force (CCC 2264-2265).

as to the death penalty....

Pope Francis also says life imprisonment is as bad as the death penalty and likens it to torture or a hidden death penalty. As to capital punishment itself, the Church has gone back and forth. In 1911, 52, and 95 it was permissible. Now Francis say it isn't. Sorry, never believed in the infallibility of the Pope, and not starting now. If infallibility is true, why the waffling in the first place. They even had to modify the Catechism in 2018...

The Old Testament is pretty clear. The New Testament is not as clear, but did say this...

Romans 13:3-4
3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

As far as Hispanics are concerned, I love them. I'm also for a wall and immigration reform. Has zero to do with Catholicism or anti Catholicism, or hate of any kind. I lock my doors at night and don't invite strangers into my house as do most people.

Not all Left are godless, but it's the way the party is moving. And it's been moving faster lately. Kudos to those on the Left calling out the crazy. Most however are adopting crazy as the norm.

1. I am adamantly opposed to the death penalty, but from a quick Google search, the Church only announced in August of 2018 that the Catechism would be changed to reflect that view.

Regardless, we've had about 1500 executions in the last ~40 years. That many kids are aborted by noon on the 3rd day of each week.

2. We have five Catholics on the Supreme Court, the four of them appointed by the GOP are practicing Catholics no less, and if Ginsburg retires or kicks the bucket this year, it could be six Catholics. There might be fringe Anti-Catholic nonsense in the GOP, but Dems literally just took it fairly mainstream with this KoC stuff.

I mean, 100% of saints would oppose abortion. Going by Bluto's theology of Whatever Is Politically Correct In The Current Year I would wager that probably 3/4 or more of current saints would have not made the cut. You're confusing the current leftist paradigm with what the Church actually teaches.

A Bridge Among Walls: 2018 Laetare Medalist Sister Norma Pimentel, M.J. (University of Notre Dame)

Sister Norma is executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, the charitable arm of the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville. The University of Notre Dame is honoring her with the 2018 Laetare Medal. Established at Notre Dame in 1883, the Laetare Medal was conceived as an American counterpart of the Golden Rose, a papal honor that antedates the 11th century. Past Laetare recipients include President John F. Kennedy, Catholic Worker founder Dorothy Day, novelist Walker Percy, former vice president Joe Biden and former speaker of the House John Boehner. It is considered the most prestigious honor given to an American Catholic.

She gave the Commencement Address in May.

God on the border (Washington Post)
“She lives her faith,” says U.S. Customs and Border Protection chief patrol agent Manuel Padilla Jr., who appears in a video on Catholic Charities’ GoFundMe site . “Without Sister Norma, and without the community engagement, our mission of border security would be a very difficult mission to achieve.”

Sister Norma, the executive director of Catholic Charities’ regional operation, has worked with immigrants and refugees since the 1980s, but her current mission began when a surge arrived from Central America in 2014. The policy then was that unaccompanied minors and parents with children had to be released. The bus depot teemed with migrants who had no means of buying a ticket and no clue which bus to catch if they did.

A woman wearing a nun’s habit was one of the few likely to be trusted when she inquired, “May I please have your permission to help?” Sister Norma approached Sacred Heart Church, down the street from the station, to lend her its parish hall for a few days.

She didn’t leave for three years.

“Everybody joined. It was every denomination. They reached out and said, ‘How can I help?’ Evangelicals, Lutherans, United Methodists, Jewish, you name them,” she recalled. “We also had the city officials, the city government. We had county government, even the Border Patrol and ICE.”

The criticisms of the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary remind me of the scene in Monty Python's Holy Grail when the peasant says that the alleged witch "turned me into a newt." Because he's obviously not a newt, he's forced to add "... I got better."

Similarly, if the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary practice such a regressive form Catholicism, and have such antiquated views of marriage and society, how come Amy's husband is cool with her (1) working full-time, (2) being the primary bread winner, (3) being a teaching authority over male students, and (4) exercising judicial authority over any man that walks into her court room?

"A woman joining the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary can aspire to be nothing more than a Supreme Court Justice!!!"

this is so true, and it's not new at all.

on the points about parishes and schools closing.... The Italian Catholic school down the street closed a few years before I started 1st grade. The German parish school had already closed several years before. We then were consolidated into an Irish Catholic school a few miles away. That closed after a few years, and we were consolidated into another school about 5 miles away. That also closed a few years later, and we all were consolidated to yet another catholic school. I graduated from that one, but years later they bull dozed it, and went back to the one right before it. And funnier yet, they opened a new grade school a few years back that was not beholding to the archdiocese in the same building the original Italian school once existed...

the Vatican better wake up on multiple levels.

The schools near me are staying open for the most part, they just suck. There's no investment put into them, so they have bottom-of-the-barrel facilities and even worse faculty. The teachers who teach in our Catholic grade schools are the people who can't land a job at the public schools. Parents can choose a good education or a Catholic education, but the two are mutually exclusive in many ways.

The issue isn't the Vatican "waking up." It woke up 50 years ago and only made the problem much worse. Plus, the people running aren't looking to fix it. They are like 3rd generation heirs to a huge fortune. They aren't really concerned about how the money got there, or what they'd have to to to pass on. They have their pet projects and live off the wealth. And that's good enough for them.

And Catholic schools can't even begin to compete with public schools on their own terms. When education was simpler and cheaper, and highly-educated nuns and priests were plentiful, Catholic schools were excellent. When you try to staff Catholic schools with men or women looking to earn a full salary + benefits, tuition goes WAY up. Lots of Catholics can't afford that, and many more don't know why they'd pay for something like that if the Catholicism they serve up is lukewarm.

The folks making the decision when I was kid chose to put their money into new catholic schools in the burbs, and shutter the city schools turning away from the poor hoods that needed them more than ever. follow the money.....

it won't matter anyway if the Church stays on their current path. they are hastening their own demise in the Western World. already losing Europe, and N America is next. I think the below is way too optimistic for N and SA.

I don't think this was a conspiracy, I think they were literally following the mass of Catholics out to the suburbs. Without nuns or priests, Catholic schools can't afford to exist in the poor hoods.
