Unfortunately, Riley would have to suck this week for him to really get benched I fear. $unk cost fallacy + he was voted a captain by his peers.

This is a performance based business, I thought that was freeman’s saying.

Go to Purdue - give Angeli the first series and then Leonard the second series. Let the two compete for the starting spot. Everyone goes on about RL being competitive. Lets see.

Singer and Goolsby going on about "you can't bench RL because if Angeli stinks then what"....well Saban did it last season and Buchner stunk and the starter came back with a fire in his belly. Just try that out.

Unfortunately, I fully expect him to suck again, this week. I just hope we aren't in too big a hole by the time they play someone who can throw.

There is almost no way for Angeli to look worse than RL. Again, RL passing numbers are somehow worse than Buchner in 2022. There's only one way to go from here.

And not for nothing, but we all saw what Angeli did against OSU last December. Yes, OSU was missing a few pieces, but so were we and OSU would STILL have beaten this NIU team...

I wouldnt be so sure about that. That linebackers are extremely young, but the best group of collective talent that the position we have had in years.

Shuler is looking like he’s going to be a stud. We lose Morrison, but Gray looks really good and Mickey I am surr they cane come up with someone between Mickey, leonard, and the other guyd on the roster. Traore is going to develop into a monster. Burnam in back, Young will be ready to make an impact and is going to be a monster.

Losing watts will hurt, and losing cross and mills but mills honestly has never completely broken out. Bothelo and Kiser will hurt.

Overall the net gains with the young guys and everywhere on offense may make next years team better overall which is the conundrum. Tougher schedule next year, but potentially end up with a better team and wishing we had developed our QB this year.

Plus we have Golden. If we have issues next year, it will be the offense yet again, not the defense.

Defense could overall be better I think the depth on the DL will take a major hit. I’m assuming we try to bring in 2-3 transfers and maybe 2 guys at DB. Offense should be loaded.

Here’s where I stand id prep Angeli to play this week. Start with Leonard then go Angeli each 2 drives. The issue I have is Faison is your best WR and a burner he’s basically useless with Leonard at QB because he can’t make a throw last 30 yards. Angeli can make those throws he did in the bowl game. If you wanna save the season roll with Angeli maybe give Leonard some packages at the goal line and in short yardage but other than that roll with the young guys.

I could see that working & agree with Angeli as the clear starter.

This kid had, what, 18 surgeries in the offseason prior to TAMU kickoff? I was nothing if not concerned about that. Now they're going to wildcat him into another one because he can't seem to get the ball 12 yards downfield.

It's a weird situation to say the least. If they went through all of that camp and determined he was the guy, you've gotta wonder what these other guys are going to be able to bring in an actual game. Freeman, Denbrock and Gino concluded RL was QB1 after all of that.

I really don't know what to think at this point. Win at College Station and lose at home to NIU. Bizarre.

While the defense looked good overall the last two years the defensive line has really taken a step back since Elston left. They got pushed around the last two weeks.

It's easy to MMQB / video-game strategize this situation, but if Leonard is healthy enough to run, I really think the best option that balances both "win now" and "prepare for the future" is a 2-QB system that gets Carr on the field between the 20's. If you're in 3rd-and-1 or goal-to-go, Leonard comes in. You can use Leonard in other situations, but only if Denbrock is actually willing to use play-action with rollouts for him, because my guy needs the run option on every play, and rolling him out uses that element better than anything.

It keeps the whole offense open when Carr is out there, but keeps the defense from sending 9 into the box every time Leonard is out there if there is even the smallest threat that he might fake and dump one into the flat.

I’m disturbed by the lack of news that Leonard may not play Saturday. I expected a good coach to announce that we are looking at making changes if need be.

But even BK eventually could make key QB decisions for the greater good and win potential of the team like when he said he was starting Ian Book 2-3 games into the season over (blanking on who got demoted?) because he gave the team the best chance to win and specifically stated it would help our Defense which otherwise would continue to be on the field too much and get banged up. And what a change that ended up being that year!

RL was inconsistent at best while at Duke. Never understood the hype around him. Having said that he will be qb1 unless he continues to perform poorly or injured.

Urban Meyer has certainly damaged his reputation but he still knows football. And hes on target when he says what ND is doing with the qb room doesn't make sense.

Freeman's not going to issue a press release benching his starting QB. When's his weekly press conference? Today? Maybe it'll come up then. Maybe you won't know until the third or fourth series on Saturday.

If Leonard survives the week without Season ending injury, I’d be shocked.

Id have a 2 week plan to get Carr ready and use Mac Angeli as a bridge.

Speculation about the '25 QB starter already beginning... Early handicapping of Notre Dame’s quarterback race in 2025
I think if it plays out this way, you'll have a bunch of unhappy ND fans. No reason Carr shouldn't be in a position to start. He had 15 bowl practices, 15 spring practices, all summer, all fall camp and half the season of practice. Plus he'll get all of that again this year. I get, he's not played any meaningful minutes in games, but learning the playbook, learning how to be a student, repoir with receivers, all those things should be there.

He's also been hurt and still in a throwing program.
