Since it doesnt look like the cards are going to get a deal done with Albert and he will be heading to free agency where the yanks or cubs will offer him more money than god to play for them do you think the backlsh Albert will reciveve will be anythnig like Lebron's or do you think most cardinal fans will respect the world series he helped give them? Or do you think the cards will eventually get their heads out of their rear-ends and give him the damn deal? Discuss

Pujols as a Cub would definitely be a wow moment. I don't think it's going to happen. I'm sure the Cardinals will stop being idiots and pay the man. Funnier things have happened.

Using it as leverage for more money...stays with the cards for 30 million a year.

I heard a rumor sign and trade Pujols for Texiera. Not likely to happen, but it's out there.

I'm from St. Louis. There is zero chance he signs anywhere but the STL. He's a lifer.

I live in Cardinal's country and he is royalty here. The love he will be shown this season will be immense.

He's dealing with it like a man, I don't think he has a one hour program dedicated just to him. So even if he does leave, their will not be any backlash at all.

Although he is asking for 10 years 300 million, is alot.

He's staying.
I think the only potential backlash would be against the Cards.
And the rest would be shock that he left

He won't get nearly as much backlash as LeQuit unless he does the following things:

lead his team to think he is going to stay
lead the fans into thinking he is going to stay
say "i am not going to stop until i give the cardinals a championship"
then...
quit in a winnable playoff series
leave
embarrass his city on national televison
gloat about his decision for an hour.. again on national television
never offer any type of apology
never show any sort of compassion for the city that you left
be a total d*ck

I heard today that the guy has never been the highest paid player on his team... not once... ifthat is true I can see his point... I'm kind of a "as long as you are comortable why do you need that kind of money" type guy... but how can you be the best player in the game for years now and not once be the highest paid on your team??? At some point principal plays a role in that imo...

I'm and Angels fan first but I also grew up loving Ozzie Smith and rooting for the Cards... they are my NL team for sure and the Need-a-homer series against the Dodgers in 1985 (I think), or maybe 87 was a def. highlight of my baseball childhood...

with all that said... they stated publicly they would pay the man at this time last year... now it's time to pay the guy... I think I'd walk away from these talks also if I were Albert... now the 10 year contract thing??? I can see that from the Cards perspective, FAR too long a contract for someone already past 30... Albert should take a 30 mil a year for six years contract if it was offered.... no doubt.

as if we didn't know, we just confirmed you are indeed a phils fan....

It was floated around before - Howard is a St. Louis kid to begin with, and it was thought that he'd be a cheaper replacement for Pujols. I think it was some Philly sportswriter who started it, but it got kabashed the very next day by the organization.

I for one am somewhat worried about this development - not that Pujols wouldn't give the organization every chance to match a market offer; but that DeWallet won't pay the man and off he'll go. But if he gets his $30 mil a year in St. Louis; the Cardinals won't go back to a World Series until the contract is over/moved. They just don't have the resources to field a competitive enough team around Pujols. So do you give up on the temporary and try to field a championship caliber team (i.e., move Berkman to 1st after Pujols leaves if his knee doesn't blow up this year) or do you keep the surefire Hall of Famer and face years of division winning, but no pennants.

Honestly don't believe Pujols is going anywhere. The cards still get a week after the season to close a deal before hes a FA. He might test the market but as long as the Cards give him a legitimate offer he gives them the home team discount.

IF he does leave, St Louis will still have love for him as long as he doesn't go to the Cubs or has a Decision special.

As many of you know I played in the big leagues and would like to express my opinion here. While I am happy and proud for the guys of this generation I must ask this one question. How much $$$$ is enough. Many of my fellow players went on strike ( as I did ) to enable a salary to go from very little to pretty darn good. It bothers me that now any player can state market value when you are dealing with millions of millions of dollars. I ask the question again--how much $$$ is enough. This guy may be the best player in the last 30 yrs if he keeps going at this pace, this guy is a good guy, this guy is a credit to his community. With all that said I still ask the question-how much $$$$$ is enough. This issue is getting out of hand.
