How about this quote "In a nutshell, Manti told me and my wife that he felt he came to Notre Dame – and I'm going to reiterate exactly what he said three years ago – he was led there to do something. He just feels there are so many unfinished things left there."

Terrific, so we need the secondary to step up next year and we'll have a pretty good defense with this guy in the middle. Brutal schedule, and this kid is pure class. I love him, he's a tremendous young man, and you watch when he goes to the draft next year, he's going to go high not only because of his ability, but because of his character. He has that leadership mentality and the work ethic to back it up--signs that point to an almost sure-fire professional athlete. I'd love him in Miami, all I have is Fasano whose drops over the last few years have made me angry.

He will have a scary senior season. The amount of work he's going to put in this off season to ensure success will bring this defense to another level. He's one of the best leaders I think I've ever seen, and its a privledge to watch him play every day.

Consider what he did this year basically playing on one leg. He did not have the impact that he did last year, but I really think the ankle slowed him down than ppl realized. Next year dude is likely to come into the season at about 6'2 255 with a healthy ankle and one goal in mind...dominate. Should be exciting and fun to watch.

This whole (non)story, and sentiment, needs to just go away. I'm not even sure that Kelly "called out" his non-recruits. I think he was just throwing out a plug for the fact that he can recruit, because so many of the guys that he recruited are on the field, actually playing.

Perhaps you should be stunned more that you bought into the line that was fed to the masses, about Kelly creating this huge rift in the locker room. I find it hard to believe that the rift could be that big if Te'o (who was nominally "the face" of the Weis guys) is passing up a chance to play on Sundays next year. Obviously Kelly did whatever he needed to, in the locker room, to keep these kids together as a team.

You mean the ESPN spin? No. Not that. If you check Manti's twitter he was PISSED. Something along the lines of "I'm only playing for my bros now". When you are the lynchpen of a program's D, and you make statements like that with millions of dollars on the table headed for the NFL.

That's why I'm shocked.

It's great that he's back simply because he's back, but this is even bigger than that. Look at our defense next year. Who was going to provide leadership? Having Manti play along with the young kids who are still growing up will pay dividends in their development.

This is my thought: He's an excellent player, a guy with character, and also -- perhaps most important related to the restoration of the program -- he provides another season of great example to the maturing freshman (Tuitt, Lynch, Hounsell, et al.) of how things are done. One year was great; two years is fantastic.

No offense, but screw the dolphins. Can you imagine Manti Teo playing in Pittsburgh's linebacker scheme? Pittsburgh has just been plugging in linebackers, one after another, for decades. And they almost all have multiple Pro Bowl seasons. Take a guy with the already developed skill of Manti Teo, plug him into that system, let percolate for 10 years.........and you have a Hall of Famer!

'12 might be a REALLY special year now. If only we can hold onto Eifert, and have a clear-cut #1 QB starting next season....

If so,we have a strong enough schedule(that isn't impossible) and good enough horses to maybe pull off the impossible....

I knew it! I knew he was going to stay. I'm just surprised he announced already! I guess, if he knew without a question he was going to stay, why not say it sooner than later?
Love you Teo!!!

"From listening to him (Saturday) night, that boy truly loves Notre Dame. He truly loves Notre Dame, despite all the shenanigans that may have happened in this past season, and some of that pointed directly to him -- it didn't matter to him. I was very proud at him for that."

Awesome quote from his Dad, Brian Te'o.

He's 21(?) years old. Remember when you were 21, would get pissed at the drop of a hat, and hours later you couldn't have cared less?

I hate that argument..."Remember whey YOU were 21...."

Doesn't matter. You're 21, you're an adult and in the public eye. Act like it.

Not saying Teo was wrong at all in this case...but I just hate that excuse people use when describing poor judgement displayed by young people.

Glad he's staying, we definately need him...

But I gotta say, some of you guys are wayyyyyyyy to creepy with the "I love you" crap.

Great player. Seems like a good guy. Not falling in love with material.

But I'm not using it in that manner. I'm saying that no one should be shocked that he is coming back. Even after the Kelly comment, it shouldn't be shocking.

I was on a retreat all weekend and didn't have any contact with the outside world so when I checked my twitter a couple hours ago for the first time and saw that Te'o would be coming back I was so pumped.

Our front 7 next year will be scary good.

Last year when I found out that Michael Floyd was coming back, I said to myself that I was going to enjoy seeing him play one last year in a ND uniform, simply because he is that kind of rare, special talent that we should be lucky to see. Next year will be the same with Manti Teo

Players like Teo make me wish it took 8 years of college to get a degree...and no early entry to the NFL......and play-offs in the FBS....and I just won the Powerball and MegaMillions this weekend... and Carmen Electra won't stop texting me....

And Freakin' Teo is staying home!!!!!!!

...ahem, sorry.

Great article by the tribune, really enjoyed his spur of the decision to tell the media. Reminds me of the 11th hour decision he made to come here.

This is good and all and I'm happy, but we need 11 Teo's on defense and 11 Teo's on offense and last time I looked we don't have that many. If he's coming back to try and win a NC then he might as well go pro because with next years schedule there's no way in H E L L ND is winning the NC next year.

I am glad he's coming back, That MIGHT help us go 8-4 again.
