Tennessee in Trouble Again

Just saw on SportsCenter that they're in trouble with the NCAA for "inproper use of hostesses." I guess during a South Carolina high school game they had people in the stands with signs saying "Come to Tennessee." I don't know if that was the problem or just an example or what.

In one case, hostesses traveled nearly 200 miles to attend a high school game in South Carolina in which at least three Tennessee recruits were playing.

Marcus Lattimore, a running back who made an unofficial visit to Tennessee but said he would not enroll there, said multiple Tennessee hostesses attended a game at James F. Byrnes High School in Duncan, S.C., in September. He said they brought signs, including one that read, “Come to Tennessee.”

“I haven’t seen no other schools do that,” he said. “It’s crazy.”

I think it is just a matter of time until Kiffin steps on his crank and the NCAA pounces. I find it interesting that he hails from the branches of Pete Caroll. Hmmmmmm, interesting.

If Petey sent a song girl out to play with me im not even listening to Notre Dame.

Talk about academic standards and all that - its BS. There were meatballs at ND like anywhere else. They live in the dorms so any student knows this.

This kind of stuff is the difference.

And the NCAA still allows these schools to get away with everything, while ND is under the microscope.

The NCAA is kind of a joke in terms of these "violations." Schools don't even graduate or send kids to class, but they crack down on "hostesses." I know a guy who played hoops at Tulane and he got gifts from other coaches when he was being recruited: a gold necklace from a certain NCAA champion coach being one such gift. And this guy was good, but he wasn't even close to being the cream of the crop. It seems random the way the NCAA decides to "crack down."

the favorite for the title game is currently on "probation"...... think about that shit.

this is the biggest issue with college football to me... BCS is not even close... the NCAA has to get it's act together and set some examples

Agreed. The BCS is a minor complaint compared to how the NCAA handles graduation rates, students going to class and getting educated, and recruiting violations etc. But there is too much money involved in college sports. Everyone from the ESPN radio host to the bookie is making money off college sports. Setting standards would throw the monkey wrench into that goldmine.

I don't think it would though, it would hurt the one or two schools made example of... your point proves mine... there is too much money out there... someone else would step in and bring the dollars... and in the long run you have a clean sport... how the hell we can have a program on probation play for a title for the second straight year is a complete joke... if your on proby you lose postseason rights... PERIOD...

I'm convinced that if and when SC gets hit it'll be nothing but the title of proby and nothing more

My only problem with these allegations is that I just want to see some pictures of these "hostesses". I've been to UT many times and DA-YUM, some of them ladies down there are HOT!!! I wouldn't mind committing some NCAA "violations" of my own.

What has been documented on USC and Florida?

Did they have hostesses cross state lines for procurement?

so, i was perusing vol nation on this topic. some guy comes out and states as matter of fact that his cousin (to remain unnamed, of course) was offered $50,000 in cash by Urban Meyer himself to come to Florida.

i had to register just to call him out on this and tell him if his cousin didnt report this, he could be in serious trouble and that the poster himself may be called as a witness by the NCAA, as this would be one of the bigger scandals ever. the poster got very defensive at this point.

i was soon thereafter banned due to my chosen user name: KIFFINSCRIMINALS.

I think it would because I think we're talking about a huge percentage of programs that are doing something dirty. So if the NCAA really cracked down, there would be a lot of programs out for the count for a period of time. Over time, it would work itself out, but in the immediate aftermath of a serious crackdown, Div. I would be cut by many teams. Many top teams. I'm not talking about making an example of one or two. I'm talking about a widespread crackdown.

As a ND fan for years, I seem to recall a booster scandal at ND when Holtz was coach. I don't recall all of the details. Observer Newspaper - News
From what I understand this was not sanctioned by the coaching staff or the University, but commited by a booster acting independently. To accuse other coaches and programs for booster activities without all the evidence, seems rather foolish and hypocritical. It may turn out that the coaching staff and UT had no planning whatsoever in this, as it may turn out that they did. But before we start with the disparaging remarks just remember that there were so many that dislike ND that wanted so badly, the violations to be tied directly to Holtz and the University. I refuse to behave toward another university, like these people behaved toward ND. Let's reserve judgement until all the facts are known.
