Sports shows are hamering Pryor and then Tressle for not knowing how to use him. Is he the Jamarcus Russell of college football? Would he have been better with UM? Tressle does seem to be trying to use him as more of a pro-style QB than one would expect. Or, is he a sophomore in the vein of Vince Young who is learning college ball and may shine in his Jr. & Sr. years?

He would have been a better fit in Michigan's offense of but didn't want to go there because a spread option QB doesn't have a great shot a playing on Sundays.

He wants to learn to be a pro QB and is young.
He is an amazing athlete who needs to find a good QB coach to put it all together.

I think he isnt a QB...take away his running threat/ability and evaluate his QB skills, what do you have? I think he needs to develop his skills and stop relying on his running ability/threat. But that being said, he doesnt look like a passer to me. exciting runner, good/great athlete, doesnt mean that he will be a good QB.

If he wants to rely on his running ability, then he should not play QB. just my opinion.

I realized after I hit the submit button - Ooops! I don't have the housekeeping tools you do, knew you'd catch it, and I appreciate you placing it in the correct forum - thanks...

I agree - top QB in high school with top high school skills - doesn't make you a top college passer. Jimmy had mad school that took time to develop (even with him running for his life with little luck escaping). I just don't see the skills. That one deep pass he threw against Purdue - he had all day and it was so lame the receiver just sort of jogged in place until it was picked and then went for the tackle.

I don't ever see him being a top flight QB in college, but I do think he will make a giant leap forward from his Sophomore to Junior year. I'm interested to see how he does again Penn State and Michigan...

...

That's what I recall about his rationale in chosing a program.

Holtz wanted to make the transition from Option Attack to Pro Attack and brought in Powlus. He neglected to secure the WRs and OLs for that kind of attack. Plus Joe Moore refused to coach for a passing attack. Meanwhile Powlus struggled as a not very good Option QB. During his career, Powlus had two Head Coaches, several Offensive Coordinators, and several QB coaches, and throw in a couple of OLine and WR Coaches to make things even more complicated. They all had mixed ideas on scheme and technique.

At least Pryor has continuity in coaching at OSU.

UM will be interesting. I see them beating us on heart. Everything to prove and nothing to lose. Strong out of the block - no depth to sustain it. I see a big spiral downward the rest of the season. IU was right there... Penn St. Wisc. and OSU. Deleware St. LOL... Power ranking of 200???? Even Eastern Mich. is around 185.

The criticisms of Tressel are prett much baseless. Most of the talking heads are hammering him for not turning Pryor loose to better utilize his talents, and being too rigid with the offense.

Tressel plays to his strengths. When they had Troy Smith back there, Tressel had no problem turning him loose. Maybe the two fumbles are part of the reason that Tressel hasn't let Pryor just take off and run?

The problem with the these types of QB's is they are touted for their run & escape ability which are great assets but don't make you a great QB. They tend to be mediocre passers & lack the patience of a good QB to hang in the pocket & make smart plays. They generally get through college successfully but wind up doing nothing in the pros (see Vince Young) & if they do they get banged up pretty quickly.

They need to move him to a receiver & give him a chance at being drafted at that position.

I definitely think he needs to move to receiver as well.

He can throw the ball well. Look at the pass early in the USC game. He threw a perfect ball to Sanzebacher over the LB and in front of the safety. But that is the only good ball I have seen him throw.

He seems to still be growing and getting bigger. I think his best shot is to put on 25 pounds, keep his 40 under 4.5 and move to TE. Otherwise he will be a much bigger bust than Powlus.

Charlie recruited him as a WR? Guess he is smarter than people giving him credit. He's not a true QB.

Yea. Pryor had offers from across the country, but as far as i can remember, CW was the only coach to recruit him as a WR. We had Crist on board, but i believe they recruited him as a WR throughout the process.

I grew up 20 miles from his High school and the coaches in my old high school said Charlie turned him off when he told him if he came to Notre Dame he'd make him an all american w/r and First round draft choice at that position. I paid some attention after that and saw him play in state championship game in high school and thought to my self I must not know talent as well as I thought because this guy doesnt look like a QB to me. Obviously Charlie was on the $$$$$. Now Pryor loses $$$$$$.

I think CW recruited Pryor as an OLB or DE -- something on the D side of the ball. Everyone back then was saying CW was an idiot because he's the top QB in the land. Who laughs last?

Pryor blows outright.

Jimmy Clausen was throwing better passes as a freshman (and he threw some lollipops that year).
