Sun Bowl representatives

Saw three at the game yesterday and wondered why they were there? Thought they had agreements with the Pac/12 or ACC, and could only take us once every three years.

Just an assumption but that is more than likely the bowl we will be going to. So they were probably checking us out? Happens all the time.

I think if we get to 8-9 wins then the Champs Sports Bowl will be it. (I think that was the bowl game that we almost went to last year.)

8-4 and 9-3 get us the champs sports. 10-2 still likely champs but outside shot at BCS depending on how good Stanford is when that 10th straight win gets reeled off. I just can't see this team at 7-5 so I highly doubt we head to the Sun bowl again, but what do I know.

Eh. If ND runs the table, and sits at 10-2, I think a lot of people will forget the losses ND had in the beginning. And, they are the best types of losses you could ask for. ND dominated both teams, and beat themselves. After watching Navy, I don't know is SCe is overrated, or Navy is pretty good, but I could see them being in the top 25. Hopefully, aside from Stanford, another team on our schedule creeps into the top 25. Mich State may make us look pretty good too if they do well. Big 10 is up for grabs.

I think you are thinking of the Champs Sports Bowl. Its a hybrid Big East tie in with us, Big East didn't want us getting it every year, thus the "only once every three years" rule.

We have no particular tie in with the Sun that I am aware of - the Pac 10 I think couldn't fill their spots of eligible teams, so the Sun could go out and get whoever they wanted. Happenstance that we were available.

Back in the day when every game wasn't on TV, bowl reps used to attend games to "scout" any possible teams that could enter their bowl game.

Also, back in the day there weren't 35 bowls so these guys actually did serve a purpose trying to get the best team in their bowls.

Now, they are just out there getting free rides, getting wined and dined and watching games for free. They serve no purpose.

If conferences don't end up with enough bowl eligible teams, the bowls find theiir own participants.
