State of the Recruiting Class - 2024

We talk a lot about how it would be crazy for a Chicago Catholic league kid (Scott) to choose Scum over ND. Yes that’s true, but when you walk around Chicago, there is a ton of Scum apparel being warn. Scum is very popular in the Chicago area. Why I don’t know!!! I give people shit all the time for wearing maize and blue though.

It's an expensive city. Doesn't surprise me that people have resorted to shopping at the Goodwill.

Currently ND has 21 commits.
If ND gets Lambert, they would have 22 and be 2nd on 247 & Rivals, & around 5th on On3. Have no clue about ESPN.

ND will take around 25-26.
So depending on how other teams do, ND should still finish around 8-11.
I wouldn’t panic over that.

If we finish 8-11 it is a very Clemsony class. Which is fine because we would hit at key positions: QB, OL, DL (potentially) and WR.

Biggest concern is that defensive recruiting is not cutting it.

2) Is your perception of the defense solely based on rankings, or do you genuinely think they aren’t good?
ND straight up liked Bryce Young & Cole Mullins over the Twins. (So do I).
ND straight up liked Kahoun over Sullivan (so do I).
ND liked Sevillano over Wafle. (TBD)
ND liked Loghan Thomas over every DE not named Rushing. (I agree)
ND liked Tae Johnson over all the other Safety possibilities (I agree).
ND loves Moore at CB. (I agree).
That leaves Hobbs, which is TBD.
Rezac, who is tall, very long, and legit can run.
Urlacher, son of HOFer.
TBP, who is the only head scratcher.

I’m going to guess that, with no ND-bias, the following end up as 4 Stars:

Tae Johnson - ranked
Loghan Thomas - ranked
Moore - ranked
Kahoun
Mullins - ranked
Young - ranked
Sevillano

I purposely used to not follow it.

Now I don’t follow ND football between Thanksgiving after the final game until after Christmas (bowl game) & from the bowl game until spring. So I take around 3 months off.

I really should take the summer off too.

But what is funny is that the season is 3.5 months long & the off-season (where we over-analyze recruiting), is 8.5 months long.

During the actual season I don’t care about recruiting at all. Don’t follow it. Just care about games.

I already miss the days of ND fans bitching we “only won by 18” at Louisville.
Now I’m worried every Saturday about what the hell is going to happen.

I can't stand michigan, but to be fair, they got the higher touted/recruited 5 star QB. I think Carr will be better but they got a higher rated QB than carr, if we don't get Scott, we'll be probably searching for some underrated player that's ranked 500th.

He dropped in the rankings. He’s not a 5 Star anymore & will continue to drop.

If Carr moved up at all by On3, he will be a 5 Star.

And Michigan wanted Carr over Davis.
Carr is better, & it’s not even close .

You need to ignore the ranking because it’s literally only because of Charles Power’s insane Carr ranking it’s even a discussion.

To say for example we liked kahoun over sullivan to show our recruiting is good is very misleading because ND really wanted Pierce or brown (long shot).

ND really wanted Woodyard at Safety

etc etc etc

A lot of what you mention is us picking/getting option 5 vs option 6 other than Thomas, Tae, moore, and maybe young. To me that's the issue. I think the staff is doing a good job evaluating talent, but not landing their top options.

Right now Davis is 1 spot higher than Carr on the composite. Davis has been steadily dropping SINCE Carr committed to ND. Most recent competition that Carr and Davis went head to head in....Carr beat him out. Carr is 6"2.5 and Davis is listed as 6"0.5. Carr couldn't have been more of Michigan legacy. Losing Scott would suck hard, but it shouldn't be in the same breath as the Carr theft.

Did UM want Carr over Davis, I think it's hard to know because it was pretty clear he wasn't enamored with UM despite his GF? When you have that legacy and aren't all in, UM probably never felt like they had a great shot.

He wants to put a 320 lb space eater and a tall, athletic DT, in the middle.

So, a Sevillano on the Nose, Scott at 3 tech, Thomas at Vyper & Young at SDzE and Mullins coming off the edge, would be a pretty darn good DL in his scheme.

Honest question, you think anyone from our 2023 class on the dline becomes a big contributor? I'm not asking for this year, i'm asking ever at ND. There's some potential with 1-2 of them but all have very low floors IMO.

That’s what a few people fail to realize. Scott has tremendous upside, but he is still relatively new to football. He was a basketball player before a football player. He’s not a Day 1 impact guy like a few other ND DL have been in the past, such as. Lynch or a Tuitt. Sheldon Day was more polished as a true freshman than Scott will be.

Any school feeding him that he’s a Day 1 guy have either: Crappy depth or are just a bad team, cough cough Miami.

My biggest concern is that evidently the Go Karting scene in NW Indiana is not quite up to par in order to land a 17 year old three star safety from Texas.
