I’m not sure why there isn’t a thread yet for the Stanford postgame…but I had to watch the game on my phone at my son’s baseball game and I missed the 4th quarter after the delay…so I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the game. Here were some of my take-aways:

It’s downright criminal how under-utilized Jeremiyah Love is. 6 carries and 1 target is not enough. I like Price and am not saying he needs a lot less playing time. I just think we need to get the ball into Love’s hands more when he is on the field as he is the best player in this offense (no offense to future All American TE Pat Coogan).

I’d like to see the TE involved more. The TD to Raridon was an awesome playcall…but did Mitchell Evans see a single target?

Outside of that, I thought Denbrock called an excellent game overall.

Riley Leonard has made a lot of progress…especially with his willingness to go through his progressions to find somebody open. Early in the year he seemed to go with the first option every time, regardless of coverage.

I have seen enough of James Rendell. Thankfully the Irish only had to point one time, but that one point was 24 yards and set Stanford up for their score. It can be argued that Rendell has already cost the Irish a game with his awful punting in the NIU game. Will we have to wait until he costs the Irish another game before they make a change? I don’t know who else we have that can punt, but I’d hold an open competition if need be.

Why in the hell did they not review the Stanford TD??? He may have gotten in, but it seemed to be close enough to review.

Overall, the defense was dominant and the offense was efficient on the ground and through the air. I’m pretty happy with the big win! Go Irish!!!

We just didn't need Love that much, which is a good thing. And I think Price really wanted to redeem himself after getting benched. He ran hard all day- I think it was good to reward him because we need both of these guys

I'd love to have a true #1 receiving target but we have a bunch of solid #2-3 level receivers right now so I think the targets are gonna be spread out most of the time

I think a lot of people just checked out with the delay and didn't come back.

1. I thought the officiating was as bad as we've ever seen but we kinda just stopped caring because we were up by so much. There were a few totally egregious calls that cost ND points.

2. The path for ND to win is to get more touches for the RBs. This includes in the passing game. They are electric.

3. The play action pass needs to be a staple of the offense moving forward and not just trying to throw slants behind the linebackers. Need to works TEs in the middle of the and get better at taking deep shots because they are wide open.

It's an expectation at this point with ACC games.

Head scratching how the AD has continued to tolerate the ACC's bullshit.

Jamie U brought up a good point that Love was in on a lot of the RPO throws.

I started to work around the house after the break so I stopped watching. Nice to have a no stress game and glad RL played well.

Jaylon Sneed only with 14 snaps all game, despite the blowout. I'll wait to see what the experts say on rewatch, but we started the game with him at the Rover and he looked terrible. Slow reads, poor run fits, missed tackles.

They gave him a chance but unfortunately I think he's on the outside looking in. Just shows how hard it is to learn LB.

With Stanford’s gimmicks and options, I feel a helluva lot better about the defense against Navy and Army.

I really like how ND is using motion and the offense in general is evolving. Leonard as a passer had his best game obviously. He’s going to kill ND drives on 2 or 3 throws a game, so the receivers can’t mess things up for the offense further. Mainly thinking about Collins, and not so much the fumble. His drop he had a ton of room to run after the catch IIRC.

Tough to take much from this game with how bad Stanford is. They surrendered half way through the second quarter. It was impressive how badly their OC called that game. Still great to dominate a team like that.

Stanford is bad but I didn’t think they’d suffer three blowouts in a row. I realize the VT game was closer than the score b/c that backup QB couldn’t pass but figured odds were they’d produce a better showing after two bad losses. Glad I was wrong.

Great to see RL improve his passing and spread it around. The slants were thrown well...his 3/4 arm motion comes in handy on those throws. The downfield throws were effective albeit a bit under thrown but hopefully that’s just nitpicking. He had a couple of worm burners that seemed like easy throws to the flats but maybe he held up at the last moment?

I get the frustration w/ not employing more Evans but I suspect until RL can show he will beat a defense downfield, they will mostly double Evans b/c they know he can hurt them on short passes & crossers. He seemed to make such an impression last season that he’s still highly regarded by the opponents.

Glad they rested Faison. Hopefully the others can get healthy enough to contribute w/ another week.

ND reacted well for the majority of plays that Stanford went w/ option. Let’s hope that portends for their preparedness vs the Academies.

Nice to have a relaxing win while all the big matchups went down to the final gun or into OT.

I haven’t gone back and rewatched, but I don’t remember seeing Evans in there at all. Saw both Flanagan and Raridon, but no Evans?

God bless Golden and this defense. 1st drive aside, another great showing. A couple of INTs called back by ticky tacky calls well. Oben aside, I thought the DL played very well. The young LBs continue to impress.

Offense with a decent game. Wish our QB could consistently hit the routine gimmes and that our WRs didn't drop balls when he finally does. We aren't worthy of Price and Love -- they're so effin good. Really liked the play call and execution on the Raridon TD. OL has some bad moments, but I think they're growing how you'd hope a young line would.

Dafuq is up with special teams and did we ever find out what happened to Jeter?

Wonder what Price thinks about Collins being allowed to play the rest of the game after an uncontested drop AND fumble.

Jeter pulled his groin (no indication how severe).

Freeman didn't bench Price. That is a DeLand policy (see Audric benching). So Price and Collins are apples and oranges and both players recognize that I'm sure. And Jadarian would likely be the first to tell you he knows why he was benched.

Didn't Ford take a good many of the runs last week? He fumbled on the first play.

It’s not just fumbling, it’s the manner too.

Price was holding the ball out, very loosely, away from his body, at his own 5 yard line.

It’s funny though how many fumbles ND has has since Deland took over. ND had the longest streak without a fumble lost under Denson, and had the least in the country under him. Since Deland took over all the RBs have had fumble problems.

I know Stanford sucks but so does NIU. I think RL is growing, settling in as is the offensive staff. Continued growth into the playoffs and NIU is meaningless a footnote on the season. Kind of like the NFL in a way. Win when it matters.

Riley mills had himself a game. He destroyed double teams all day long even when he wasnt the one making a play. He doesnt always show up in the stat sheet but he gets doubled an awful lot.

Except that it could potentially have cost them home field in a playoff game which would have been huge if we draw a team from the south.

I was at this game, first one since the Fiesta Bowl in '22. I had a great time with my family all told, but one thing I'm wondering about is the volume inside the stadium. Is the crowd usually that quiet? In between downs I could have a normal volume conversation with my cousin who was sitting right next to me.

Postgame Thoughts:
1. 229 yards, 3 TD's for Leonard- where has this been all year? If ND gets to the playoffs these are the stats we are going to need from Leonard.
2. From #1 this will give Love, Price, and Williams more touches.
3. The crowd was into the game yesterday (finally).
4. Lax is right, the officiating was bad.
5. There is talk in the Sneed page about him transferring after this year, after yesterday I believe he will transfer and ND will be fine.
6. Mills & Cross were dominant yesterday.
7. A couple of times yesterday ND had Price & Love on the field at the same time.
8. ND kept Elic Ayomanor in check.

Go Irish!!

The crowd has been quieter than yesterday, I thought the crowd was more into the game yesterday.

If you want to see an example of people not giving a crap about a football program, check out the Stanford post game presser.

“One reporter in the room…”
Then one on zoom.

Two questions. Presser lasts 2 minutes.

We have the most boring, watered down rivalries of any semi serious football program.

I agree. The only questions I have are (1) is he banged up, or (2) do they anticipate really depending on him down the stretch and want him healthy?

Otherwise, yeah, it’s like having a Reggie Bush or Derrick Henry and giving him only a few carries a game .

Not if you count USC & Michigan as the main rivals. Those are exciting.
I don’t consider Stanford a rivalry.
We'd be Michigan's 3rd most intense rival. This is why our games are so boring, there's no long standing hatred and the winners havent matterd in 10+ years of our best one (USC/ND). The SEC is on another level. Stanford is a snoozefest and they have more band members than fans. Navy is a respectfest. Hell, half of our fans hate teams we don't even play (OSU, Bama, Michigan) more than our "most hated rival", USC.

Most boring/irrelevant rivals of any semi serious program.

Unfortunately yes. I’ve posted in other threads expressing my displeasure about it. In my opinion, the crowd and environment have gotten noticeably worse over the years. I was there in the late 90s and while we weren’t any good, the atmosphere was so much better.
