To be clear I'm not saying it looked bad but this is Notre Dame guys... If you can't get it to look like the above examples then don't bother is really my stance. If 'green just doesn't look like that" is the response then don't do green.

Also, none of your examples use green because green doesn't stand out well. I suppose navy wouldn't work well at a night game either. And a gold out would probably look like crap too. So.

I just know 'green doesn't look like that' is the default response so I addressed it right off. I actually don't know if I agree with it fully. To me, you need everyone to buy in for any of these to work and as the pictures and video from Michigan show you had too many who didn't. If you get everyone to wear green or pass out shirts or something, it could look great imo. Or do a blue/gold section thing like mentioned above. For whatever reason ND just doesn't seem to get that kind of response.

Right. It's frustrating how little fans of ND buy into this stuff. I have way too many friends (and a girlfriend) that are Penn State fans (yes, I don't know why). They all would NEVER consider wearing anything other than white on a white out night. It doesn't even cross their minds. For some reason, ND fans almost in rebellious tones ACTIVELY go against these suggestions. "I will wear what I want to wear" is something I have heard from ND fans...

I am just glad Notre Dame is starting to promote a singular color to wear to games that actually sticks out. Fans have already started to pick up on it (Wake Forest). In a year or two, green will be the color to wear to games and we will finally be competing with those other schools that have a unified color.

ND needs this kind of thing. The green sticks out.

Green outs just don't work well... if they are going to do something like that section it off green, gold or something like Iowa does with Black, Yellow... or hand out green shirts to everyone coming in. A sprinkling of green throughout the stadium really doesn't accomplish much.

I don't know how it looked on TV but it's was def mostly green for Michigan

Looked awesome to me in section 132

If 60-70% of fans wearing the same color is "awesome" to you I can't help. SEC and B1G fans would laugh at this poor ass green out.

Green alone is a poor color choice.

Don't worry though...ND will change the color next year in a bid to sell mor shirtz.

I like the blue and gold idea.

Green and gold
Green and white
Blue and white
Gold out would be impressive under the lights

It's something to get people thinking about what they're wearing and to help create some sense of unity for the crowd. As it stands now, any expectations put on the crowd is a step in the right direction. Old people thinking they have no obligations as fans besides paying for one of the bookshelves in the Hesburgh Library is half the problem. If a green out does nothing more than pressure the sort of person who can't be bothered to wear green to stay home, then it is worth it x100. Notre Dame isn't going to do anything as good as the whiteout. That doesn't mean they shouldn't tell people to wear green. That's like saying ND stadium isn't as loud as Neyland so we shouldn't bother cheering.

Maybe it’s just my perspective being a ND fan:

What the hell is it about ND where we seem to be the only program in the country that’s held back by its blue bloods?? Lol you don’t see wealthy donors telling people to shut up and sit down elsewhere... I’m sure every one of these other examples have their blue bloods playing along

Half of you accidently logged into IE and not your ND nation account.

Yesus, I've never seen so many "let-me-pull-you-into-my-pity-party" people in my life.

Shut the hell up, stop whining, they're promoting green so do it. And if you can't do it, don't dog it - it'll just keep more people on your crappy side of life.

Already bordering on that.

Sat by 2 old blues last year who looked at each others jewelry the short time they were there. They left before half time from their 45 yard line seats.

Had the same experience a few years ago. Had them in front of me, and in back of me. I felt the heat of their stare burning through my back every time I stood up. The friend I got the tix from, warned me. The ones in front of me had early-teen grandchildren with them that were standing and cheering, so it was funny to see them try and tell them to keep seated. We ended up moving after half to a roomier place where we could stand as much as we wanted.

Seriously shut the fuck up. This isn’t a pity party or complaining storm,... Im simply pointing out that our green out wasn’t really a green out, which was a fact. I then said if our base simply can’t pull these off I’d stop trying... or make absolutely f ing certain it’s done right, by handing out promo shirts or some such. If you care about this as you claim, you should agree ...

Yeah maybe I'm just not worthy of the sights from the suites but from row 29 it was min of 70% green.

As has been hashed out many a times here ND markets too many colors for it to be 95%+. People like to point to psu white out or the sec but not everyone can just be red and white or blue and white.

It is funny reading people who have never been to a game complain about the atmosphere in the stadium tho.

yup...need to hand out the shirts. Only way to do it. Blue hairs still won't put it on but maybe they will wave it around.

Everyone in the stadium said it was awesome. Every podcast who was skeptical, said ND pulled it off. ISD write up said it turned out big time.

I'm sorry you didn't see it from your couch on your sunny west coast afternoon, but everyone on campus and in the stadium said the green was done right and "about time".

If you sign up for ISD I'll provide you the link. Again, from analysts who were skeptical it would work.

Nice. So I’ve never heard or read a case against the idea I presented. I’m sure the stadium gets hyped,... the idea of the blue bloods melted my mind when it first came up years back... would you say the idea that some don’t sit on their hands and tell others to be quiet is fiction? Because we’ve all read that from numerous posters and others over and over and over, but, you clearly know better than I.....

You're the one saying that ND shouldn't try encouraging crowd participation because we don't have PSU white-out success.

If you had said that ND has enough money, should put green shirts in the stands, and left it at that, you wouldn't be getting so much shit. On the whole though, it's a stunningly bad take. It's ironically the exact mindset that leads to the stagnation you're talking about. "*Shrug* that's just who Notre Dame is, they don't do green outs. It's impossible. Let's stop trying."

I can only speak to my experience. Which is going to games for 25 years. And I haven't seen an usher or "blue hair" tell people to sit for years now. I won't pretend it never occurred.

The ONLY instance I've personally ever encountered with an usher was last season when our section was told only the students were allowed to do the push-ups after scoring. Lame, but I'm sure there's been more than plenty instances over years where someone got dropped or worse, so I find it unfortunate but understandable.

I've also noticed over the years that the better the product on the field is the more there is to stand and cheer for.
