I just see no way they can let Michigan into the college football playoff. You simply cannot put in a team that has been cheating on this scale, over so many other deserving teams.

Dream scenario is that the CFP committee puts them at like #6 or 7 in the first playoff ranking and then just never moves them. The meltdown would be delicious.

Hate to pour cold water on the NCAA doing something before the CFP, but... the bylaws give Michigan 90 days to respond to allegations. Even now, that's past the CFP timeline, so unless the committee is willing to keep them out based on the allegation alone, or the B1G is willing to suspend them, they'd still get in.

My buddy the UM fan has his head stuck so far in the mud, it's comical. The whataboutisms are flying tonight. I don't feel like posting it, but did anyone see the Mike Greeny clip where he's saying how dumb these allegations are and then proceeds to describe how anyone can see the other team's signals all game long...conveniently leaving out the MAJOR detail of UM recording the games....which is against the rules. I mean seriously, wtf. Great journalisming there. And my friend thinks Greeny is "making a good point." GTFO.

"Yea, but anyone could go to a game and record it and then send it to UM for review." Yea no shit! And they'd be breaking the rules. This isn't rocket science.

About his tweet: there is absolutely no chance that “nothing” is the result of this. He might be right about most things In his tweet but that is absolutely out of the question lol.

I think most journalists won’t touch it. They don’t want to be the ones to try and slander a team/coach/university based off unsubstantiated allegations. There has to be a presumption of innocence. If they start trying to tear down a team/coach/etc. they better have all the evidence. Like that one guy who was throwing OSU under the bus during their last escapade with Urban Meyer’s assistant beating his wife. Pretty sure he lost his job but he never kept quiet.

But if this investigation turns out substantiated evidence, I guarantee most will already have articles typed and ready to post saying they “had no idea it was this deep, etc.”

Till then, I expect most pundits to play it safe instead of joining the witch hunt.

Pete Thamel and Greeny are ESPN colleagues, right? Pete is merely reporting on the news coming out. Greeny is gaslighting.

The number of videos I've woken up to regarding sideline sign stealing almost made me chuck my phone. Semantics matter! The allegations are that scUM video recorded games. It's no different than Patriots Spy Gate or what the Astros did. Looking out across the field to steal signs is not the same as scouting teams and recording their games, the latter of which is obviously illegal and what UM is being accused of. Good grief.

I personally feel the penalties won't be sufficient for us ND fans who want to see that program blown off the map. I have a pit in my stomach that they're still going to win the National Championship this year. Perhaps after the investigation concludes, Harbaugh will be gone to the NFL to avoid penalty, but I really don't know if the NCAA or the B1G or the CFP committee will step in and punish them this season. Any penalties will likely be enforced in future years, imo. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm keeping my hopes down at the moment.

My money is on the B1G doing something (hopefully before the CCG) before we see anything from the NCAA. Unless however, there is something in the NCAA bylaws that allows the NCAA to enforce some type of exception to the 90 day response timeline. Remember that Mark Emmerich is no longer the president of the NCAA which may be one reason the NCAA was already on campus. The new guy may want to make a statement.

There has to be, right? Imagine the entire team was doing steroids on video (extreme, obviously), the contract is going to allow 90 days to respond? There has to be some sort or coverage for immediate needs, but I doubt this would qualify as extreme/immediate enough. I just think they're the luckiest program in all aspects but this year they're actually good.

There's no way every win from this and the last couple/few seasons won't be vacated if it's proven that the rules broken led to a sporting advantage. There's just no way. We vacated wins for an academic advantage. You don't think this is worse? I get that we self-reported, but this isn't hearsay. There's a ton of evidence with or without cooperation. And most importantly here, the B10 power brokers (and Vegas) are PISSED.

Man I hope you're right. Us as a reference point makes sense.

It's too coordinated and for too long for Harbaugh to not have known. This guy is spending big money and in the lockerroom with players. No one at the NCAA can seriously buy Harbaugh wasn't connected, right? Damn it, now I'm invested. Just in time to be let down by another Michigan luck out. Evidence "just too messy and will take time to sort out". Wet fart.

I get the reference about the B1G and I get the amount of money that gets bet on CFB, but Vegas has no affiliation with the NCAA. I would hope the NCAA isn't doing this or being influenced by Vegas because people won/lost betting on scUM or any CFB game.

This all feels like one big offseason they've been enduring since December 31, 2022.

I completely forgot that Schembechler's son worked for the program for a week before his employment ended. Literally a week.

If Michigan was 5-2, I would be confident in them getting hammered. Don’t trust the NCAA will do anything. They had enough evidence on Cam Newton but chose not to do anything because they were undefeated that year. They don’t like coming down on title contenders as it puts a stain on the sport. We’ll see.
