I'm not changing the mission of the site. Just making ONE thread that is 'quick hits' and void of pages of discussion.

So if someone wants to know if Tillery changed his visit plans, they don't have to read 3 pages of posts about what he wore to bed last night to find out about it.

What f it was like a daily wrap up thread.

X recruit visited Stanford today early signs looking ugly for ND.
Irish unveiled new cleats for game against FSU see pics here link.
Fuck Michigan
Folston practiced today (hamstring) expected to play saturday
Ect.

This format might be easier and more useful than a thread constantly getting bumped when new stuff happens since those threads would be getting bumped anyways.

Our banners still have brown helmets. A ticker is way in the future, lol.

You're right about not having it derailed. It'll only work if the mods support it and/or restrict access to themselves. I'm saying I'll do it cause 50% of the time, I have IE up while I'm at work. But if the mods want to do it/restrict access to it, that's best.

Punk, IE is the first website to open last to close during my work hours. ;) Always up.

So what is news? Fitts might transfer to ND, oh wait...not happening. Or bombs exploding overseas? What do you want in this proposed thread?

So you're saying edit it rather than keep posting? I thought a timeline would be more telling in certain situations, and there's really not notable news everyday (we haven't had any for like a week now). But I like your idea of it not constantly getting bumped, so maybe edits would be best since the purpose of this website is discussion, and constant bumps would take attention away from the main threads.

But I'd counter with the thought that it wouldn't get bumped a whole lot. I mean, just looking in the past week I can think of two posts that would go in the thread: 'No news on suspensions. Classes resume August 26th so answers might be coming soon'. And 'Portin Gustin moved his visit up to Michigan game rather than Stanford game'.

Lol, me too.

See my above example. I'm thinking something like that. Simply facts. I wouldn't consider the Fitts might transfer news-worthy.

Thought you volunteered to monitor and upkeep this tread? Maybe I misunderstood.

What is "news" is in your hands, you now have the power. Start the tread, see what happens.

You're still not getting it. This mission of this site is to facilitate discussion of Notre Dame Football, not to be a source of news about everything related to ND football, so why should we care if people don't have time to sift through the threads for the information that they want? This isn't supposed to be a news source. I mean, if you want to waste your time catering to the people who want to force the site into conforming to their wishes, without regard for the stated mission of it, then go right ahead...

1) This you obviously don't care for it. That's fine; the good news is, this will not affect you at all. You won't benefit or lose in anyway. It's for people who don't have time to read through every thread to get to the bottom line.

2) There are posters that DO post here, that DO engage in discussion, that have things come up. They travel, their kids have a practice, they work late. Sometimes posters that do use the site the way you want them to will benefit from this when they just want to know what actually happened, not 17 different interpretations.

There are times when I work late and don't have time to read everything and share my thoughts (insert joke). So on those days, bottom line news is good. Doesn't mean I'm going to stop using the site the way I always do.

3) It's not going to destroy the mission of the website. This is and always will be a website that's based on discussion. Like I said in my example, it would have been posted in TWICE in the past week, and we've had a lot of shit go on. You think that's going to bring down IE? I think it will make it more user friendly for fence-sitters, lurkers, and members who don't have time to read every post on said-day. For the lurkers and fence sitters, maybe it'll help them stick around because of the quick-hit benefit, and eventually become contributing members.

We'll still fight. I personally guarantee that, lol.

I'll do it, just have to convince kmoose it's not the end of IE first, lol. And hoping to get some input/suggestions/support from a mod.

Maybe the mods could sticky the thread at the top. Or put a link to it somewhere. If its not getting bumped then its going to fall off the front page and be forgotten by users.

If you just edit then it will be easier to read as well. On a busy day there could be a page and a half of posts, one edited post instead would be more neat. And if there isnt any news then there just wont be any posts. So if someone logs on looks at "Koon's hardhead headlines" and sees that there hasnt been a bump since Aug 15th then they know instantly that nothing important happened that day.

But the discussion that happens on this site is supposed to be informed. It's nearly impossible to log in at 4:45 and jump right into an active thread. If there was somewhere instead you could check real quick what had happened that day it would be much easier to join the conversation.

A suggestion of sorts:

Does anyone else get these video adds that pop-up occasionally when changing pages. The kicker is that when I click 'close-ad' it sends me to the IE live chat page, which is pretty annoying.

Any help/suggestions for this? Thanks.

Upgrade to the pay membership. It gets rid of all the ads on the page. Way more enjoyable. It's like $12 a year.

HoosierIrish brought this up in the now-lunch-log-out-something thread, and it's a good idea.

Since some people don't have time (especially during the week) to sift through several pages of jokes, arguments, and other banter to find the actual news relating on to the thread they clicked on, how about starting a 'News Bulletin' thread, where a certain number of posters can post news, nothing else.

I'll volunteer to be one of the posters charged with keeping it accurate and current.

Other suggestions - Can we upgrade the banners? We don't have any pictures of any players with the new uniforms, and we might not even have pics of current players. When newcomers visit this site as opposed to, say, Domer Domain, they might turn away because this one looks so old, whereas they have a sweet pic of Ishaq and his dreads in the new, shiny unis.

I'm an IE-er for life, just trying to stay current. Go Irish and fuck Michigan in their goat ass!

lol or you can stop derailing threads with every post you make. Just a thought.

I'm not doing this to make the site better for myself. And I'm not doing it because I have a problem with threads getting derailed. Threads get derailed and I'm fine with that.

Just trying to help those that don't have time to go through everything, every time.

My only suggestion would be to place a "New Posts" jump button at the bottom of the page.

Think of the time saved not having to scroll to the top of the page!

Oh, and maybe a "Skip All Bandwidth Greedy Gifs" (I don't give a shit how you choose to pronounce it) option.

There already is a place. In fact, there are many places.......

Inside the Irish

Notre Dame | CSN Chicago

UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site - Football

Notre Dame Football News | UHND.com

Again, if koon wants to waste his time, that's fine with me. But it's not like he is providing a service that doesn't already exist. And he really needs to stop saying that I think it will be the end of this site, because I never even came close to saying that.

I think once a month we should vote someone off the island. Banish someone by popular vote, secret ballot style.

So today when I got to work and logged on, all the font was bold and no longer unbolds after reading. Any ideas on how to fix?

On another vB site I'm a member of, it gives you a notification when someone "likes" a post of yours (if that option is ever installed here) as well as notifies you when someone quotes one of your posts.

I think those would go a long way here.

IE did a great job with being able to hide pictures/avatars/signatures. It'd also be awesome if the banner was hide-able.

Make it easier on us working folk to hide our sins. Have a 'business' or 'office' mode :).
