I want them undefeated when we roll into town.

Personally, I want ND undefeated. If OU is undefeated, that is a bonus, as well. I have a feeling that they will be though when ND comes to play them.

We need to get past Shoelace first, though.

In this day and age of NCAA football, the last undefeated-win of the year is a coach's signature win.... the prior games to that last one are just wins.....

Diz

Not true, honestly.

Les Miles' win against UF when they faked the FG and won the game in Gainesville was a signature win.

Chizik's win against Saban two years ago before the SECCG is his definitive signature win as a coach, bar none.

Saban's win over UF in the 2009 SECCG was a signature win, even bigger than that BCS title game because everyone knew they were better than Texas, so it was not a surprise when they beat the Longhorns.

We definitely live in a "what have you done for me lately?" society, but there are plenty of signature wins out there by coaches that are NOT just meaningless W's.

I personally don't count the W against MSU as a signature win, particularly since ND beat them by 18 last year and 17 this year, but it does show that the Irish are definitely improving under Kelly. I think he is improving as a coach, too, which is nice to see.

GO IRISH!!

Definitely one game at a time, but since we're fans and not players we're allowed to speculate just a little. Now it would be AWESOME to go into Norman to face an undefeated Sooners team undefeated as well. That would be the weeks "Game of the Century". lol

Signature wins can only be determined in retrospect. How does MSU finish the year? How does ND finish the year? Very happy with the team right now but unless they handle business this weekend. it will mean nothing.

I agree. I probably posted this a little too soon. I was drinking heavily on the koolaid before I posted.
But I do disagree with him who said that USC 2010 wasn't a signature win. How is it not?! We'd lost to them 8 years in a row, thats EIGHT YEARS we've lost to our biggest rival. All the previous coaches have lost to them! I think that game was a signature win.

I do think that MSU will be proven to have been a signature win...but thats to be proven.

We have to beat Michigan . Right now we haven't done too much different than past years. We normally beat Mich State and Purdue and lose to Michigan. If we can handle a running QB like Denard and beat Michigan--possibly our biggest rival-- then that's the biggest win since beating Florida State on the road back in 2002.

Taken well. But I do not believe this to be a signature win IMO.

I never said that this is or would be a signature W.

I just meant that the last W a coach has is the definitive signature win.

IF they beat OU at Norman, THAT would be a signature win.

Considering how BAD the B10 is this year, I don't think EITHER win is a signature W, sadly.

A signature win for me includes a COMPLETE game, where the Irish show they can play a complete game against a great team...and neither MSU or MICH qualify as good teams, and the Irish have not had a complete game yet, really, outside of Navy.

Maybe this bye week will help the Irish iron out some of the bugs on offense.

Big W, psychologically, though, that is for sure.

GO IRISH!!

Not so fast. The 1988 win against Miami was only a "signature win" in light of the the team's success throughout the entire season. They won their opener against Michigan by 2 points. They beat Navy by only 15 points, 22 – 7.

Had the team stumbled and lost a game or two, it might have been seen as a fluke. Had Miami stumbled and lost another game or two the victory would have lost a good bit of its luster.

Just sayin'.

That win against Miami is the equivalent of us beating Alabama today. Imagine us beating Alabama this year, even if we had lost tonight, or if they stumbled in a game. Nobody would discount the win. They have superior athletes and a great coaching staff, It would tell the college football world we are back.

Well, this Stanford win probably doesn't count either does it?
Just that goal line stand was pretty epic. Like old school ND style.

THIS is this regime's signature win, and probably belongs on the list of top-10, top-15 regular season games in Notre Dame history.

This was the biggest game in recent memory. I mean, with all the hype around, gameday and everything. We had to win. TCB baby!
