The offensive line made a huge leap forward last week. They dominated 95% of the game. We beat those POS (OSU) 9 out of 10 times and it's not even close. Lou Holtz was 100% right! as for duke. Freeman needs to play to ND's strength. Violently run the ball straight up the middle and throw the deep ball every once in a while. ND needs/should win by 25 if not more.

This will go down as the best team we’ve had in 30 years. I truly believe we will have been a couple good coaching hires away from a title. That team was better than Ohio State and even they know it. We got out coached.

Again, Notre Dame out coached themselves at the end
(too aggressive perhaps on O)
((10 men on the field))

Notre Dame looked like the more polished team for the vast majority of the game (remember OSU also had two failed 4ths)
Notre Dame was also fired up for the game - something Kelly rarely did.
Notre Dame also matched their athleticism. Even against their best skill position (WRs).

The mistakes were glaring, but in whole, the coaches were also good for the majority of the game. Both can be true.

I agree. Even the OSU fan I spoke with said ND was the better team. I truly cannot imagine the ineptitude of the coaches on this. Yes, everyone makes mistakes but when you have that many coaches with eyes on the ball, there isnt an excuse. And to not cause a 6 inch penalty??? Piss poor excuse coach. You got schooled and ND paid the tab for it.

I just had a first.... I was waiting in line for a pizza pickup this past Sunday evening and I was wearing my ND jersey and I had an old dude in a Duke t-shirt come up to me and say...." This will be a great game..." like he was actively excited about it.

I wouldn't say best team in 30 years, I think it's the best offensive team in a while and a lot of that has to do with having Hartman. He is the best QB in 12 years ND has had. ND can be just as good if not better next year if they bring in the right QB. I look at our defensive line tho and I don't see any future draft picks which is concerning. Maybe Mills is a late 5th or 6th rounder but in order to compete you need 2 studs on the DL. Also college football I think has more better teams as a hole this year but also Georgia and Bama are no where near as good as they were the last few years.

looking at next year i agree it will depend on the qb. also agree about the defense their are no game changers on the DL or at safety and i dont see that changing based on the current recruiting class either. ND needs to flat out recruit better players on defense plan and simple.

Its not just a 6 inch penalty. Its the difference between giving them 1 chance to score against 10 players from the 1, or giving them that same chance then a 2nd chance against 11 if you somehow stop them with 10. They either score on the free play, decline the penalty and win, or they dont score, accept the penalty, move forward half the distance and try again.
Being in that position was brutal, but the decision to not run a guy onto the field and create a penalty was the right call.

Completely wrong. Having a DT barrel the center presnap was the play to stop play, if they’re gonna be dumbasses and send out 10

You could even have the DT kick the ball from the center for gosh’s sake.

Looking at Sam's numbers vs Duke they are pretty good. 402 yards in a 45-7 win in 2021 and 347 in the 37-34 loss last year. Sacks were a problem 3 in the loss. 1 int.

They only played him twice in his years at Wake since they were not in the same division.

Our OL should substantially outperform Wake's. But you never know.

It’s very difficult to compare Hartman‘s performances with WF to what happens with ND because of the reason pointed out above, OL, but also system, running game, other supporting cast, etc. Let’s hope Sam lights ‘em up even more convincingly this go around.

Much like our defense Duke is in their second year so they are going to be a little bit better than last year.

I think we have a Top 10 team of players with a Top 5 upside.

I think our Coaching Staff is Top 15, at best. HC, OC, DL coaches are not Top 10 caliber either due to inexperience or inability.

Other than money, there is no reason ND shouldn't have a Top 5 Coaching Staff but we don't.

I feel much better about this game than I did Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Last year, we let Ohio St. best us twice by having our heads in our ass for Marshall.

These guys aren't going to let that happen again.

We might lose. Duke might play great.

But, if we lose, I don't think it will be because we didn't play well.

Duke had a nice win over an average Clemson team, and then wins over FCS Lafayette and outright tire fires in Northwestern and UConn.

I think they're a nice team, but ND should win this by 2+ scores. And I think they will.

I was pretty anti the Parker hire but he's been really good through 5 games. We'll see if it continues but he's not one to be scrutinized to this point.

Out coached!? If the bar is "send 11 players on the field" then sure. But Day made a shit ton of mistakes in that game, and it all stemmed from the comments Lou made and trying to show the world how tough he and his team was. It should have cost him. Unfortunately we made too many more mistakes then they did. If there ever was a game that lived up to the mantra: "the winning team didn't win it, the losing team lost it/gave it away" this was it.

I think the out coached angle is too much as well it gives too much credit to Day who is ordinary.
We put played them eccentric though they have 5 stars everywhere often on our 3 stars.

In that Marshall game our oline was deplorable - probably mind elsewhere. We need the big fellas to come out switched on against Duke.

I’m guessing Duke has a better WR corps than ND? Regardless, make Leonard earn it and hope the Irish secondary show out. When Leonard runs for over 60 yds, Duke is 8-1. And he won’t be easy to tackle so let’s hope the ND Defense realizes that and cuts down their whiff rate.

They’ve definitely had some practice defending running dual threat/running QBs this season so let’s hope that experience comes in handy.

Mobile QB’s haven’t had much success against our D in recent years. I think they keep him contained.
