Do we think MF has a talk with Ash and tells him to kinda fuck off with the amount of zone we saw?

Im certainly hoping so. This is, in the end, MF's defense but Al taught him some tricks

Marcus needs to take this bye and insist himself on the gameplan

Maybe it's because I was drinking but we played a ton of man I thought.

I'm sure he says something and that we need to be more aggresive we can't afford to lose to A&M

I hope so because that defense didn't look like anything like what we saw last year.

My guess is yes.

My fear is that we heard Freeman talk about needing to generate pressure with 4 guys. Nice sentiment in theory, but playing it straight up isn't what got ND where they needed to be last season. ND's front 7 won with stunts, movement. It's what made guys like Hinish and Cross effective. Playing them straight up isn't going to get it done.

Yep. Pound sand, troll. Glad y’all got a tune up game in, instead of opening up on the road. ND could still have more wins over SEC teams at the end of September than a&m. See you in two weeks.
Genuinely want to talk ball…

Well, as you can imagine no one is happy about last night. I would expect ND will open up the playbook and get a bit more aggressive after seeing the qb isn’t going to be a detriment.

Being your qb is no Beck, I do anticipate ND playing a more aggressive defense as well.

I have some concerns about both the offense and defense lines. I feel if the aggies win in South Bend it will be about trench warfare.

I feel we are better than last year in kicking, punting, receiving, and passing qb.

Im actually overall happy with the way our qb seemed to improve so far but yeah… it’s utsa. We didn’t dominate either side of the line like I hoped. Concerning…

I honestly haven’t had a chance to watch too much of the notre dame Miami game. From what I saw though, I wouldn’t hit the sell button yet on ND

It’s so hard not to over react to that game but I know one thing, I’ll never trust the beat writers for their pre season analysis again. Either Miami is a legitimate top 3 team or they were wrong about pretty much everything. What’s everyone’s thoughts about how the weather may have impacted the game? I was shocked by how slow and indecisive we looked on D. Hoping the bad footing played a role.

Bad footing and Ash might’ve had them thinking too much instead of just playing downhill and fast.

I’d say the weather had a significant impact……likely contributed to Fields and Price fumbling. I’m sure it was factored into the play calling on both offense and defense. Wouldn’t be surprised if Ash went more to zone if he felt the field was a bit slick so that, in theory, the secondary wouldn’t be as exposed to slipping when a receiver made their cuts.

Dawson did a good job taking advantage of it w/ his WR. They got our secondary out of position all night w/ change of direction.

Was Knapp the only one struggling w/ humidity/dehydration?

anyone know the schedule for this week? Are they back at it today or a day off?

This game makes the rest of the season very simple. A win puts everything back on the table. A loss basically makes the rest of the season pointless, besides Carr’s continued development.

10-2 ND could definitely still make it in...
Lets say Miami is a playoff team (or Godforbid a top 5 team) that loss looks pretty good on paper.
Tamu, if

I actually stopped this because I don't even want to think this way and finish the rest of my depressing thought.

We will know once the media reports back what the cafeteria worker told them whose brother is part of the grounds crew & has a birdseye view of the practice facilities. Rumors bubbling up so far are that Hinish looks bigger & has assured coaching staff he won’t get plowed anymore by OL. Hobbs admitted he was sandbagging & we can expect more athleticism & quickness. Knapp had a Camelback installed w/in his shoulder pads to prevent dehydration and Greathouse & Pauling have settled their union grievance and are expected to make their first catch in the next few games.

Everyone so emotional over losing a game by 3 points on the road at a top 10 team.
I think the issue is that if we were the program we thought we were (especially after last years's post-NIU run) then we would have pulled that game out. I agree there was an overreaction, just offering a little context.

I do think we will play much better than last Sunday. A lot of the disappointing areas from Sunday, in my opinion, can be worked out. They’ll play much better if they play man, send more pressure, and don’t call plays on offense like a jackass.

LOL.

But to the point...I just don't see ND getting in at 10-2. The argument against them would be "they lost to the only two good teams they played," even if they finish the season on a 10-game win streak.

They wouldn't control their own destiny, but there would definitely be a reasonable path for them.

Agreed. Unless USC is much better than last year and teams like Arkansas, NC ST, Pitt and Navy have good to great seasons.

The caveat is if one of the other 10 teams not named Miami or aTm turn out to be better than what all the preseason “experts” claimed

Only 10 - 2 teams that got left out last year were Miami and BYU. Both lost twice in three weeks to end the year.

Tennessee was rather easily in with 1 ranked win and a loss at Arkansas.

I know we’re still in downer mode but I highly doubt a 10 - 2 Notre Dame with 10 straight wins gets left out. As long as Miami is ranked high and USC/A&M have pulses, I would expect them to be in.
