I don’t believe A&M is as good as advertised. Their QB is average at best. Oklahoma has a good enough defense but their offense can be shut down. LSU is… well LSU. All the talent but subpar coaching. Ole Miss can beat any team in the country but lose to half of them as well any given weekend.
I think A&M's entire perception is based on the ND game. They've looked rather ordinary since.

They shouldn't have won. Our defense basically gave up the same number of points that Utah State, UTSA, and Arkansas gave up to A&M. That's bad...and the Arkansas game was post coach firing.

Bama’s out of state enrollment started topping in state enrollment a few years back. They appear in actively recruit students on the upper end academically. Where they come from isn’t really a factor but I don’t really know. Maybe they recruit certain areas harder than others.
Pretty incredible how sports affect the university as a whole. Bama’s rise academically makes me laugh at people who complain about the football coach salaries. A successful football team does wonders for applications and overall donations to the university. VCU’s basketball run in 2011 transformed that school and the parts of Ricmond that the university expanded into

I agree with all this. Unless Kelly has completely lost the locker room and they’ve mailed it in, I actually think we’ll give A&M a really, really good game. We’ll see.

At this point SoS be damned. If ND wins out we should be in, so at this point I'm in favor of chaos so we can potentially get a first round homefield advantage. I think it's only a matter of time for A&M to lose, so I'm pullin' for LSU.

I do understand some complaints of you’re basically “rewarding” Notre Dame for its two losses while the remainder of the schedule is lackluster. Living in Houston, I’m around a ton of different CFB fans, and I hear it a lot. I kinda get it, but my retort is that the whole entire goal of the committee is to get the best 12 teams in. That’s it, and do you really think ND, as it stands, isn’t one of the best 12 teams? Hell, look at last year’s champ…they had two losses including one to an average Michigan team, at home, and on the last game of the regular season … we can’t look at it like we did in the past.

A&M has a good chance at winning out. I don’t see that being a bad thing for ND.

Yep, Butler's back to back NCG appearances saw a significant increase in applications and enrollment. One of the guys on my staff is from Michigan and he said came to Butler because of that.

If ND wins out i do expect the committee will make a very serious effort to get them in the field. ND can make their job much easier if they get the kicking game figured out here and blow everyone out.

At first I wasn't sure if he was just playin', but looks like he got a little heated there...with a mascot
Yeah, he definitely got a little heated. The awkward "Back to studio" was needed.

Dude is such a clown, saw this hot take was said today too. He's advocating that a 3 loss SEC team get into the playoff over a 1 loss team from other conferences lol.

Social media memes seem to suggest SEC schools have made a killing by importing students from places that dont offer that experience. Lots of NJ, NY, etc kids going south for college. At least thats what im seeing online and friends/family down south have said thats been their observation too

I teach at a private school in New England and going south is becoming increasingly popular. Bama and Clemson have gotten a lot more popular over the past 15 years.

Including for high-academic students. It mimics the population trend in America as a whole.

It's true, but it's not about weather. Some people are simply looking for cultural sanity, and that's extremely rare at secular American universities these days. Best bet to find some semblance of it is SEC territory.

I'm pretty open and vocal about my hatred and disdain for Tennessee. I really didn't care in the past as LSU didn't play them too often and our rivalries, throughout the year, rotated with Ole Miss (always), Florida (always), Alabama (Saban years), Auburn (early 2000s/Tubberville years) and so on. I hated Tennessee after being subjected to them in my Vanderbilt years. They're truthfully a pretty crappy bunch. "Orange Nebraska" without the skins on the wall...

That said, even though this was a ripoff from UGA and Alabama, I thought it was pretty well done:

Never understood why Tennessee wasn't a better historical program. Beautiful area that connects to a ton of the other SEC states without being too hot ALL the time (unlike say Louisiana and Florida). University isn't terrible either.

If Stockton played for us, we'd love the dude. Outsiders perspective the dude is a gamer and a winner. He's perfect fit for them. Flashes of Stenson Bennett, minus the doucheness, when I watch him. Just makes the winning plays

Who do you rank higher than them historically in the SEC? I got Bama, and then could make a strong argument for Tenn over UGA and LSU. I'm not including Texas and OU as they are brand new to the SEC.

I have nothing against him personally (other than playing for that team in Athens) and while I agree with you, he throws every ball as if his life depended on throwing it as hard as possible. That's going to bite UGA in the ass at some point.

Very obvious he's just a pretty good college QB. He'll never play in the league other than a backup at best. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Yeah, he is a good college QB for sure and seems like a much better leader than Carson Beck. Not a high bar, but still.

Pretty poor in-state talent for the South. When they were good in the 90's, they were pulling kids out of NOLA, Atlanta, etc. That changed with Alabama, LSU, Georgia and the like on the up and up since the 90's. Memphis does produce some decent talent, but that's approximately 7-8 hours away from Knoxville. Memphis, too, is much more align with Ole Miss (and Arkansas to some extent) than Tennessee. Nashville is getting better with its growth, but for a major city, those top teams would be essentially pimped out against the NOLA Catholic league, Atlanta schools, some Birmingham schools, and such.

With respect to football progeny, I largely got over feeling old a long time ago, but Bama sophomore Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. was just arrested. His daddy was just drafted as an early entry in 2012. That threw me for a loop.

Surely those 3 teams did better than 2 - 3 with wins over the Big 12 and ACC, right?
