Trump is gambling with WWIII. How many new countries with nuclear weapons will be added during these 4 years?
Definitely an “unintended consequence” of his approach of the US no longer serving as the protector. More and more countries will want their own nuclear weapons.

Don't look at the new spending bill that's going to pass.
1) There's a difference between deficit and debt, and admittedly I haven't seen the new bill.

2) There's a bigger difference between spending on US programs/ services versus taking out loans to back other nation's wars.

On a pure rhetoric sense, Trump has very openly praised Poland and their military spending

Per NBC News:
“As U.S. and Ukrainian officials prepare to meet in Saudi Arabia this week, President Donald Trump has privately made clear to aides that a signed minerals deal between Washington and Kyiv won’t be enough to restart aid and intelligence sharing with the war-torn country, according an administration official and another U.S. official.

Trump wants the deal, which would give the U.S. a stake in Ukraine’s mineral resources, signed. But he also wants to see a change in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s attitude toward peace talks, the officials said, including a willingness to make concessions such as giving up territory to Russia. Trump also wants Zelenskyy to make some movement toward elections in Ukraine and possibly toward stepping down as his country’s leader, the officials said."

Sounds like Trump and russia want a russian puppet government put in place. Not sure there is any reason for Ukriane to sign the deal, they might as well give the rights go Europe

Ukraine can end the killing and shelling and keep a large majority of their country. 🤷‍♂️

So can Russia. Fuck off.
Not with that kind of attitude. Need adults at the table who realize the killing and money laundering need to end. Give peace a chance.

Yes, but how do you get them to do that? We'd all like to see Russia eat a turd, get their asses kicked in Ukraine, and give back all of the territory there that they took, but short of putting US or European NATO boots on the ground - which is not going to happen - how do you do that?

Why would Russia stop then? No one is willing to stop them.

That's the point of the current attempts at a peace deal. If this continues, Ukraine's situation re manpower is going to soon become critical and there will be little to stop Russia from taking over the entire country. A peace deal, despite the hard to swallow bit where Russia keeps what they've already taken, would at least end the fighting and death, and allow Ukraine to keep most of their country. I hate it for Ukraine and don't blame them for not wanting to make a deal to end the war that allows Russia to keep what they've taken, but all realistic alternatives are much worse.

The point still stands, why would russia sign a peace deal if no one else is willing to stand up to them?

And seems a peace deal would only keep them at bay for a few years while the rebuild their military.

A peace deal needs security guarantees

Tell me about it! Remember the time Ukraine tried it?
Not yet. They better soon though. I don’t think they’re headed in the right direction, hopefully Europe steps up and takes it from here, if they want to keep going.

In the efforts to bring about a peace deal, I kind of understand a little arm twisting along the way. I understand not going out of our way to antagonize Russia.

I don't understand the intelligence sharing pause. It's a terrible look.
Considering revoking legal status of Ukrainian refugees. Terrible look.
Some of the votes in the UN where we are voting along with Russia. Terrible look.

I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt, but it's getting increasingly hard.

If Trump responds to Russia’s lack of coming to the peace table with harsher sanctions, more weapons to Ukraine and encouraging even more aggressive ROE into Russian territory, I’m sure people will still find a way to bitch about it lmao

All we are saying.......is give peas a chance.

This is what I said today when my wife asked what vegetable I wanted to go with the chicken. Yep, we having peas tonight.
Peas are gross. Peace can be beautiful. Should have worked broccoli into that dinner equation.

...continuing the arm Ukrainians to fight them? Is this is a serious question?

This isn't a football game. There isn't a time limit. No respected outlet has suggested that Russia is on their way to victory. They need the US to stop their support of Ukraine for them to obtain victory. This isn't complicated.

On November 1st, The NY Times wrote an article saying the Pentagon's assessment was that Ukraine had enough soldiers to last another 6 to 12 months. So there kind of is a "time limit".

Just a thought to consider IMO. This is why our willingness to abandon Ukraine bothers me so much:
IMO, If Ukraine loses, Taiwan is not the worry, that is a forgone conclusion.
The real countries at risk become:
In the East: South Korea and Japan
In Europe: Poland, Baltics(Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia)
If US citizens can't stomach a proxy war involving only money/weapons to fight for the little guy, of course we obviously can't stomach a real war.
Taiwan is gone If we are being realistic. That is more certain than Ukraine. If I understand correctly there are even a large amount of Taiwanese that want it so there doesnt even need to be a use of force by China.
However, our lack of fortitude to stand up for Ukraine sets a real worry in South Korea and Japan.
Korea was essentially a Chinese vassal state for millenia. China has been at an off war with Japan forever and has been waiting for revenge from ww2.
Our lack of support for Ukraine is a litmus test showing that we would never consider actually fighting for our allies if we cant even provide financial support to Ukraine. I mean do you actually think Americans would die for Koreans??
But at least, if we didnt bail on Ukraine, it would give the implication that we may support our allies. Now, due to our actions in Ukraine, any potential threat of US intervention is dead.
Just putting that thought out there. I assume the same people saying we need to bail on Ukraine would say we don't need to protect S. Korea/Japan. However, IMO, our actions will seal their fate. In time, don't be surprised if China retakes Korea and Japan gets conquered. We have proven we won't stand up to help and the threat is off the table.
I certainly wouldnt want to fight either, but I don't get why we are basically announcing to the world that America has no stomach to stand up for anyone. The whole point was to establish the perception. Now its gone.

So what? Isnt that a good thing for you? Then you only have to spend money helping them for 6-12 months. If anything, shouldnt that supportthe decision to help them if the only concern is we are blowing our cash?
Seems like a win/win situation.
Either they lose in 6-12 months and you can save your tax dollars or the NYtimes is wrong and Ukraine is not losing like predicted.
