The punishment comes from the academic side, though. I don't think "time served" missing football is a factor for them at all.

Yeah that's something the media and outside fans miss a lot. The University treats athletes as students first. Kelly is the only one who dictates football punishment (with the exception of NCAA implications, as was the case here), and by the time a case reaches him, it's already gone through the grinder so much the student usually has suffered far worse than missing a game or two.

So, a few things.

KVR is gone for the year, but what does that mean? From school? From the team? Does he have to surrender the credits of this semester? And to add to it, possibly he accepted it asap because if he appealed it could have taken the semester to do then if it got upheld he would've been suspended for next spring and fall as opposed to this fall and next spring.

To the comment of DD changing his twitter pic. He's still wearing ND gear in it, and his backdrop is the ND football squad.

Is it possible KVR was given like a plea deal? Take your punishment and return next year without issue, or appeal and risk being sent away for good? Maybe that's why he quietly accepted it as is.

Possibly his being announced, and only his to this point, is because he was the first thru the process and maybe the only not to appeal.
