I hope Michigan gets the ever loving **** kicked out of them, yeah it would be great to be like "you beat Bama but you couldn't whoop ND" but those obnoxious buttholes will just say "der der der we beat you three years in a row." so it doesn't matter. They'll say that no matter what, a win on our part will mean absolutely zip, zero, zilch to the wolverine world. So therefore I hope Michgan gets their hineys whoop by Bama, us, Wisconsin, AF, OSU, and MSU. ROCK ON!

I won't be able to root for either team. Rooting for the SEC is just like rooting for USC or Michigan. I cannot fathom a way to do it. I will accept the two negative forces making a positive one which is a team I don't like losing. If Michigan wins, I will like the blow to the SEC and the chance to really knock them off their rocker. If Bama wins, I hope it is by 50 points and I will enjoy laughing at Michigan, especially when they whine about the SEC cheating.

I know man. Everyone here gives him crap for it but half his family went to ND other to UM

Most of my family went to USC...I opted to go to ND but had grown up watching both teams games and being a "USC-lean"...I realized just how much I F*cking hate USC on Oct. 15, 2005...I WILL NEVER ROOT for them, however I don't want my enemies to be so down that the f*cktards that root for them have the excuse that an Irish victory came during a "down year"...I guess the same can be said for the wh*res of Ann Arbor...I'll get joy out of a thrashing of Michigan but I understand how much sweeter it may be to beat them after they beat Bama...just won't actively beer rooting for them during the game

I am hoping Michigan shuts out Alabama, just so when we beat Michigan 35-17 it'll send a message to the masses.

I love how Michigan has no mascot, but summer's eve douche's slogan is "Hail to the V" and their song is "Hail to the Victors".

LOL! Michigans new mascot.

Or.....Mich gets killed and then beats us, making us look worse.

I'll take my chances and hope to knockoff a Mich team that beat ALA only to have their dreams dashed by the irish.

THis or its a close Bama victory. Then we kick the crap out them.

I decided to read this thread to get things sorted out for myself. And I came up with a few things worthy of note:

Between Bama, UofM, and ND, the team that took the longest to lose their 300th game? The Irish!

I think that there is a hidden beauty in this game. I think Bama will push those poor wolverines so hard they will expose every effin weakness for Martin and Diaco to game plan. So to me I am not sure it matters as much the final score, as that we can see how to push the porkupines around. (There is no really good smear for the Wolverines, like Condoms, for USC, is there?)

Don't know about outcomes, cannot psychologise, what it will mean in the long run, because of the pointy ends on footballs and Wolverine's heads. But my UofM fan friends better not complain about having a tough schedule!

When people say they want Michigan to win or all ND's opponents to win so that ND will face a stronger team, it's almost as if they haven't followed recruiting or watched college football for the past decade or so. ND should always want all their opponents to be down and especially the opponents that regularly recruit against them. This in turn will help ND get better faster and it will help them get to better bowl games. You think recruits or the press care that Michigan didn't play a hard schedule last year? They don't. They got to a BCS game against a solid but eminently beatable opponent, got the breaks, won, and had a ridiculously good recruiting year. That's what it takes to have repeatedly ridiculously good recruiting years. Sometimes I really think some ND fans think we are in the 1970's or 80's and the game hasn't changed. I don't understand how people can be on boards like this one and think it would be good for ND if Michigan beat Bama.

this. this all day long

All day, and all night long. Gotta hope UM kicks the crap out of them, and we open up a can on UM..... Just becasue it helps our SOS, ranking, and puts a little spank to the SEC.

That said, don't see it happening. Bama 27, UM 9. I just don't see UM's undersized WRs doing all that much against Bama's DBs (or Denard throwing up prayers and getting lucky), and I don't see Denard running all over the place. I'd love to be wrong, but think UM is smacked back to reality this weekend.

God, I hate both teams with a passion. I'm hoping Bane shows up and explodes the whole damn field right at kickoff - Dark Knight style.

Fair to an extent. However, come judgement day, your opponents W-L records play a large factor when it comes to BCS bowls and NCs. If we for example a 2 loss team at the end of the year, we are borderline BCS depending on SOS and quality wins. Obviously it's in our best bowl interest for our opponents to have good records at the end of the year. If we are undefeated on the same hand, but our opponents are primarily 3 or 4+ loss teams, very possible we never climb the rankings to even put us in discussion with 1 loss SEC teams. Just saying....

I guess I'm old school. I've always believed that to be the best, you have to beat the best. I also think a stronger Big10 / weaker SEC is conducive to ND recruiting in several ways.

Michigans luck will run out on Saturday. They have a bunch of freshmen filling roles anyway, and they are opening with the returning NC.

Or, as the Bear used to say when they asked him how he was so lucky, "Well I don't rightly know, I recruits speed and luck follows!"

Does the 12 class of Detwa U particularly impress you with it's speed?

It's better to beat a team that's ranked #3 than it is to beat a team ranked #10. It's as simple as that

It's fairly simple. It has little to do with inconvenient, nitty-gritty research, facts and reality. It's a matter of hopes and desires. Here's the scenario: ND is ranked (or not) preseason. The top 12 teams are on their regular season schedule. The Irish pound all twelve and take out number #13 (now ranked #2 since the others have dropped in the rankings) in the championship game. All have only one loss – to ND. A perfect, perfect season.

This is impossible, of course, since a number of our traditional opponents play each other and therefore would not end a season with only a single loss. We don't have 'Bama on our regular schedule, so it would be to "our" advantage to have them lose to Michigan. Let "Bama take out LSU. Since we'll have trounced USC, bring on an undefeated FSU for the BCS championship game. After reducing the war chant to a sniveling whimper The Irish stand alone.

If only it were as simple as that. It's not. It would be in a world without ESPN, hype, and recruiting. It's not better to beat Michigan after they beat Bama ever. Because to imagine that, we would have to imagine that Michigan didn't somehow gain a lot from beating Bama and then that gain did not in any way affect ND. But it would. And as to the above poster who worries about strength of schedule, I point you back to last year's Michigan team. Was their schedule that hard? They got in despite being dominated by Michigan State. Michigan State did not make it in. ND will make it in if they have a good team with a good record because of money, the same reason UM got in. Make the schedule easier, get wins, get recruits, build program. That's how you do it.
