i agree w/ most of what you posted here. I was always of the opinion that his sins were made as manager and never as a player. Consequently, I always thought the appropriate punishment was banishment from the game for life but induction into the HOF for his efforts on the field as a player.Maybe an unpopular opinion but I hope not. Nobody doubts his talent and contribution to the game. He still committed one of the absolute cardinal sins of sports... and never fully accepted responsibility nor showed much contrition. If he'd admitted the truth early on, accepted full responsibility, and worked to make it right, he'd have been in 20 years ago. I loved watching him play and he was absolutely one of the best ever, but I hope he never gets inducted. There are consequences to actions.
He sounds like a phenomenal teammate but not a person of the highest of character off the field. If he had listened to Johnny Bench and just accepted full responsibility, he’d be in now. So that’s on him. RIP.
