One of the true legends of Rock has passed away. Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson is dead at the age of 82.

View attachment 3059061

I knew it was coming soon after his last public appearance. This hits hard. Harder than I thought.

An absolute musical genius who's countless hits of Americana will be enjoyed forever. Unfortunately, like Bobby Fischer, Sydney Barrett, the guy from Fleetwood Mac, John Lennon to a degree, your mind just can't handle it. Kanye has probably lost it too. Brian Wilson was matching John Lennon and Paul McCartney combined until he got sick late 1966/early 1967.

The guy spent an entire year in his bedroom in his prime. Obviously, 'In My Room' was about that year. To his credit, he didn't get give up and fought back. He pursued therapy and medications and was able to live a somewhat normal life afterwards.

He also had the voice of an angel. Listen to Don't Worry Baby. That's him singing. His harmonies could never be Matched. Even by CSN and the Eagles. He wrote the Album Pet Sounds at 23. He wrote When I Grow Up To Be A man at 17.

My avatar used to be a 1966 Brian Wilson at his absolute zenith, right before his mental decline began. I guess it's time to use it again. RIP Brian. You brought so much happiness to the world.

I’m sorry for not just the world’s loss but your personal loss. I feel things strongly and when Bowie and Scott Weiland died several years ago, I took both deaths pretty hard. I knew Weiland was gonna die because of his lifestyle but it still hurt when it happened.

A true legend for sure. Beach Boys were a big part of my teenage years. Read some stuff about him from back then. Lived in Laurel Canyon where a lot of musicians lived. It mentioned how Lennon would often stop by to visit along with CSN and others. He brought in a load of sand and dumped it into the living room around his piano for creativity. A musical genius. RIP Brian.

Laurel Canyon was a looooooong time area of creative geniuses. Slash grew up in LC and his mother was involved in the industry. Tons of actors and musicians were in and out of his home as a youth. Now it’s just another playground for the rich.

Thought he was killed by
Manson after making Pet Sounds

It was his brother, Dennis, who got involved with the Manson family. He got caught up in the same type of honey trap that Brad Pitt's character did in the movie 'Once upon a time in Hollywood.' It was so similar that I wonder if this was the inspiration for the scene.

He hung around them for awhile and even introduced him to the Beatles. Dennis was the hippie of the group and a bit naive. I think he was 25 at the time. He was the drummer of the band. Everyone around him convinced him that these guys were bad news and he dumped them.

They left a bullet on his porch in response.

Dennis Wilson did die in a swimming accident at the age of 39 when he and his buddy were out partying on his boat in 1983.

I've loved the Beach Boys music since I was little. The first favorite song I ever had was Kokomo. I just spent last weekend putting together deck furniture for my wife. My go to was a beach/tropic themed Spotify playlist I created a few years ago, and nearly half of the playlist is just Beach Boys tunes. They're just calming and fun to listen to, it takes me away back to nostalgic Florida and sunsets on the beach chillin' and enjoying life. RIP Brian, what a talented musician.

I watched a Rick Beato video on YouTube about God Only Knows yesterday. If you think the Beach Boys music was just simple harmonies and sweet catchy tunes about teen love, you're missing a LOT. Brian was a genius at arranging songs and layering sounds and filling up the spaces with amazing bits. His stuff was extremely complex and sophisticated.

The entire album is absolutely perfect. There is not one filler song on it. Not one. Even Sgt. Pepper had a couple of 'meh' songs in For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite and Getting Better. Revolver had fillers like I want To Tell you and Doctor Robert. The only album that is its equal is DSOTM.

God Only Knows, as wonderful as it is, has become Stairway To Heaven for many fans. It gets all of the attention because Paul McCartney and others call it the greatest song ever written and recorded. The rest of the album is just as good.

Don't talk(put your head on my shoulder), Caroline No, and I'm Waiting For The
Day will absolutely bring a tear to your eye. They are even better than God Only Knows.

I would suggest any music lover to listen to the entire album. Its a concept album. It's meant to be listened to in one sitting or drive. I think the entire album is on youtube.

The last 30 seconds of the album is a train passing through a street crossing with a dog barking at it. Very Pink Floyd.

Caroline No is particularly outstanding. Just an absolute masterpiece of songwriting and arranging.

Some of you older guys will remember him, but former teen idol Bobby Sherman passed away recently at the age of 81. No cause of death or exact date was given by his wife. Sherman was a huge star for a few years in the late '60s and early '70s. I remember my sister having a huge crush on him and David Cassidy in those days.

That's funny, I came across that Rick Beato YouTube video myself on Saturday morning and great analysis and breakdown of the song and the Beach Boys. I also noticed he lives in a suburb in my hometown of Rochester NY!

Stage 4 lung cancer. Yep, Bobby's songs were great if you were a teenage girl. Definitely pop and not rock. They called him and Cassidy heartthrobs back then. RIP Bobby.

I think he's from Rochester but lives in Atlanta. His videos are awesome... just a masterclass in how songs are created and recorded, how music theory works, and so on.

Beach Boys are a top 5 American band of all time

Can you imagine Murry Wilson selling the catalog right out from underneath them out of spite for being fired, while they were in their mid twenties, for $700,000?

Murry was so freaking bad man. He would go into the room where the band would be hanging out with their girlfriends relaxing and demand that Brian would get up and go to the piano room and 'write us a number 1 song, Brian. Do it.'

Like he was a child being sent to his room to do homework instead of an artist supporting everyone's lifestyle with their constant chart topping music. This kind of shit happened.....alot.

Thanks dad, no pressure. And thanks for embarrassing me in front of everyone. It's not like I'm just barely holding it together inside. He'd come back an hour later, throw the music sheets into his chest and say ' here dad , it's called Help Me Rhonda. Hope you like it. Will you leave now?'
