Revised Season Predictions

In my opinion:

12-0 - 1%
11-1 - 5%
10-2 - 10%
9-3 - 30%
8-4 - 33%
7-5 - 20%
6-6/worse - 1%

So the team is 1-0 and you think there is a 54% chance the team goes 5-6, 6-5 or 7-4 the rest of the way? Wow, someone lacks confidence.

I'm guessing that when he made his original projection of our record, he had Navy penciled in as a win. I don't know why he'd revise that projection now.

No injuries and we go 12-0; for every signifacant injury, subtract one game. This may have already happened as we lost one safety and one CB, (if their backups don't develope).

ill say 9-3. I think Oklahoma has some serious issues on both their lines. I think we can take them. Now, if we handle both Michigan schools and leave September 4-0, everything changes.

Watching that 3 play drive from Navy scared the poop out of me.

Let's see what happens with Purdue on Saturday. If we can defend the pass against Purdue with any effectiveness I say 10-2. If not, it could be as bad as 7-5.

Mulligan time.

This was a popular thread last year, mostly because we were all kind of shocked at the result of the week 1 debacle against USF.

I know most of us didn't see anything completely unexpected against Navy, but did what you saw early Saturday morning have you yearning to alter your predictions a bit? Did the running game have you drinking the BCS Kool-Aid, or did the secondary play have you backing off your 10-win prediction?

I thought we were an 8-4 team before the game, and I think I saw enough, especially with Michigan and Stanford's struggles, to up that to 9-3, with an outside shot at 10-2 (the only games I think are significant stretches are against Oklahoma, even though they actually looked vulnerable, and Southern Cal).

So, what say ye, gents?
I'll apologize as stated if they beat Purdue-I thought they'd start 1-1 with a loss to either Navy or Purdue. Golson looked great and like I said over the summer if they find a QB that can make up ground on the other team they have a chance to win 8 games. This is still not a strong football team by todays top 20 pro style ( or pro ethics ) college teams. Starting 2-0 does give them a reasonable chance at wins.

They (Navy in the 3rd) sucker punched us but we regrouped nicely. We will be ready for Purdue.

We did regroup nicely. Our D-Line was outrageous. They put a ton of pressure on the QB. I think Purdue's line will do a better job of pass protection, but hopefully not too much better.

He may have had that penciled in as a win, but now it is a win as the post was made post game. I'm just pointing out it doesn't seem a very confident view of the season w a better than 1 in 2 chance that they finish w between 5 and 7 wins the rest of the way. Nothing wrong w the prediction, I'm merely pointing that out as an observation. I feel as if they finish w 8 or 9 wins and I'm leaning towards 9. Team looked good and they will improve as the season goes along.

I think we are evolving into a hybrid spread/prostyle offense. We can pound the ball with our massive backs (and Kelly is recruiting more of the same), our oline is monsterous, and we have a combination of tall/speedy recievers. Kelly knows that the gimmick offense wont win championships, he's shifting he philosophy to be a hybrid of both that will make up for the weakness we have in personell (we cant take jucos..etc) and take advantage of the A+ athletes we can get. When our offense is a finished product in the next year our two, it will be very interesting to see going full speed. Speed + Power.

We also can't leave out the apex predators hes bringing in on the defensive side of the ball. ND is a lot close to being a top 20/15 program than you think. The pieces to the puzzle are here, now we need depth and expierience. We will probably finish 8/4-9/3 this year, but 2013 and beyond we will be a formidable opponent for anyone in the coutnry.

I think it will look like Stanford under Harbaugh.

Before this game I thought we were 9-3 with losses to OU, MSU, and USC. I'm not so sure about the teams we lose to anymore, but I still see us losing 3 games. I do feel better about my prediction though. As good as our lines played we should be in every game in this year.

I am the eternal Irish optimist but I see 9 wins. I worry about our depth in a few positions with the battles that we are going to inevitably go through. Injuries are a part of college football and they happen often with defensive backs. I will be glad to eat crow if I am wrong.

8-4 or 9-3. No way we can beat Oklahoma and USC and I have a bad feeling about the Michigan game. MSU is the game I think we can lose.

I guess I read it differently. 63% chance of 8 or 9 wins. 79% chance of 8+. That seems about right to me. It's the toughest schedule in the country.

Watching some of these videos today, I'd bet Kelly isn't thinking 7,8,9 wins. I'd bet he's talking everybody doing their job one play at a time but I also bet he thinks they have more upside than he's letting on.

Dont need to revise, I'm sticking with 11-1.

They overrated michigan state, michigan and stanford.

Navy, pitt, wake forest, boston college, purdue and miami should be easy wins.

Byu and usc will be tough tests, but i think talent prevails against byu and we bring the A game against usc.

The only game i have us losing is oklahoma. And it because they will shred our secondary.

Am i overrating our team? Perhaps.... but this has been my prediction all along.

I think Oklahoma is more winnable than I thought on friday. Theyve got SERIOUS issues. They are going to have it tough against WVU, Texas, and Okla State

Agreed. OU is one of those teams that reloads though. They had a slow start, it isn't the end of their season. I think the game is winnable though.

I also think USC is winnable. I think they are going to get worn down over the season and if they have any injuries they could be much more vulnerable than people think. Bad matchup for us though for obvious reasons.

8-4 still most likely, 9-3 great season, 10-2 special.

11-1 means a championship next year...
