Whatever it was it looked serious. If he only plays three games this year he should be eligible to come back next year right?

Though I guess he's already in his Covid year and fifth season (Has appeared in 51 games for us since showing up in 2020. Probably the most experienced guy on the team except maybe Kiser.) I dunno how that might affect eligibility for next year.
O'Malley confirmed JB still has his 6th-year eligibility left due to Covid and this only being the 3rd game, so hopefully we'll see him suit up for the Irish again next year.

Postgame Thoughts:
1. A tale of 2 teams ND was against NIU and Purdue.
2. Postgame Freeman said they were hungry, be hungry for 9 more games, and put up 66 points given the chance.
3. ND 100% beats NIU if Angeli is put in at QB.
4. Still 0 TD passes for Leonard, this is a big concern.
5. No Kris Mitchell??
6. Did Greathouse only get PT on punt returns??

7. O-line needs to roll with Spindler in the starting lineup.
8. Happy for Kevin Baumann to get a TD- the injury bug hasn't been kind to him.
9. If Botelho is done for the season hopefully he can apply for another season next year he was having a great season. Bryce Young's turn.
10. When Hudson Card entered the portal I wanted ND to get him, we dodged a bullet.

Bonus
Leonard gets his first TD next week. We are in the red zone on the 3, he attempts the pass (it's within his yardage of throwing), it bonces off a Miami, OH helmet and Leonard catches it for a Leonard-Leonard TD.

Go Irish!!

It does not appear that Leonard can throw it far enough for Mitchell to be effective, nor accurately enough to throw for a TD in short yardage. Gonna have to bust a screen pass maybe.

This here says Greathouse played 12 snaps. (I don't think this count includes special teams, but not certain). Between the run-heavy gameplan and letting the backups eat the entire second half, I wouldn't read too much into WR snap counts from yesterday.

Purdue found themselves on the wrong end of an angry and desperate ND team. ND basically showed up like it was the Super Bowl. That’s not a good thing for a mid to low level BIg10 opponent. They showed their potential yesterday. But they also likely can’t sustain that energy as it led to several injuries and they can’t throw the ball with the starting QB. What’s so obvious to the fans is slowly implanting itself into Freeman’s ego. Angeli is better and he can’t deal with it. We likely lose another game or two before he does the obvious. Benches the transfer. Pyne was also clearly better than Buchner, but we’d never have known that without TB’s injury.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully Mitchell is not our Merriweather of last season (deep threat only WR). ND should be able to utilize Mitchell more than just a deep threat and with his experience catch some short passes from Leonard.

I don't think you can draw much from the game aside from how poorly coached Purdue is. They had no idea what they were doing. It was nice to watch the young guys play and play well.

Questions going into the game were really not answered. RL is incapable of completing a down field pass which may be a good thing against inferior teams as it will force Denbrock to call more high percentage plays. Purdue lacked the capacity to test our Dline and oddly didn't call many play action nor misdirection plays.

Freeman must have a backup QB ready because it is too much to expect the defense to completely shut down opposing offenses week after week. There will come a time when we have to pass the ball and RL is just incapable. My worry is that Denbrock will go back to his pass happy tendency, and we will have a repeat of what happened with NIU. If that happens, then you cannot blame RL.

The problem is that Leonard can only deliver by ground and not by air. He is the worst freight service ever!
Disagree, he did what he needed to do passing the ball...picked up some key 3rd downs, was accurate, and didn't turn the ball over.

Maybe MF is smarter than we think (let's give him the BotD for a moment) and he knows what he's doing... He's just waiting for RL to f--- it up so bad that it's so damn obvious a new QB has to come into the game to save the day (or, instead, RL gets hurt) and then we finally move forward nearing the CFB playoffs with a new passing QB and momentum (and allow him to save face with Collective and all that NIL $ spent on RL!)... A girl can dream 🍀🍀🍀
BTW, the reason I also say this is... When we all kept similarly saying why the hell is MF not canning or demoting Gerard Depardon't, it also seems like behind the scenes, he was encouraging Gerad to seek other opportunities, but maybe that was just pure damn luck... Which we might just need here now as well.

This is a joke right. You know he did that against Purdue. Let's see how that works out when we play a real defense that makes him throw.

The good news is if they role Leonard out against UL and its two ass drives they should have a short leash then put Angeli in

One big positive is the oline is in my opinion better than last year and young.
Is it possible a good/big centre and 2 okay tackles is better than 2 really good tackles and a below average centre.

I think Knapp is better than OK.

He did it against Texas A&M too
I guess my question to you is this, do you think RL QB play during TA$M and Purdue should make fans believe that he can lead us to the playoffs? Because there is no way from those two games that I think he can lead us to a record that is better than 8-4. If we play SA or KM then that will help open the field for the run game and limits the defenses from stacking the box. I also think it we played TA$M again they would beat us.

After yesterdays performance I put last weeks loss squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff. The coaches did not have the team prepared last week. And the game plan by both coordinators, especially Denbrock, was crap last week. The offensive plan Denbrock had today should have been the plan they had last week. Instead they were forcing Riley to throw last week, when they should have run the ball and built a lead prior to trying to figure out the passing game. SMDH

Yes I do. I think the run game is strong enough for ND to beat anyone on the schedule as Leonard gets more comfortable with the receivers and the passing schemes. No turnovers, no sacks, explosive run plays, and a great to elite defense is a good formula to work with. And I'm confident that his passing will improve.

Thats a good bet as he’s ranked 112th out of 119 in passer efficiency.

You Sir are the delusional ND fan that I am tired of hearing from. There is no way you can justify that RL is a quality QB. He might be an above average runner but he is a D- thrower at best. His playstyle is not sustainable for a whole season and I haven't seen anything that shows me he will improve during the length of the season. SA and KM showed more in one quarter of play than RL did in 10.

I hope he starts getting more confident in trusting our TEs. As a big kid himself, RL looks more comfortable throwing to other big targets. I'd like to see more play action and get the TE's up the seams , with safeties on their heels I like that match up for ND. I think that's the way you push vertical with him.

There is no way Leonard can beat a team in the playoffs playing like this. He has to get much better as a passer if they even want to beat Louisville or SC

Im confident he would of short hoped for the INT that RL threw in the NIU game. We will see who is more correct at the end of the season if we keep playing RL. You think we will be in the playoffs and I think we will be playing in the whatcouldhavebeen.com bowl.

What do we do next year? Go back to the portal?
