Weird. It should have gone to whatever injured Megan Rapinoe.
Thank you for making me realize that they could've actually made a worse choice. Frankly, I'm kind of surprised that they didn't chose Rapinoe now that you throw her name out there.

Meh, Deion has probably been the biggest thing in sports this year. Deserved or not

SI has been irrelevant for 20 years

Obviously they don’t even take themselves seriously anymore.

Anyway, next season they'll be just another team.

Getting TCU in week one was the perfect storm for drumming up attention.

~Inside Sports Illustrated magazine writer's room~:

Chief Editor: "Okay guys, we need something really big, really sensational. Something that is divisive and will drive clicks. Who represented "sports" the most as a person? Anyone?"

Writer 1: "There were countless record setters in the NFL, CFB, and MLB. And for diversity, women's soccer had a banner year"

Writer 2: "There was also the rise of F1, Mahomes winning another SB, Travis Kelce and Pop Queen Swift"

Chief Editor: "Ok then, agreed. Deion Sanders is sportsperson of the year. We go to print in 12 hours. Get to it"

I'm not sure there are any editors. I mean that literally. SI is owned by a brand management company called "Authentic Brands Group."

This decision is almost certainly based on a simple analysis of social media statistics.

Do they even have a print magazine anymore?

It used to come out weekly, now I think it's quarterly if it exists at all?

Wasn't sure where to post this.
But here we are bashing SI.

They got busted for using AI writers. With AI names. With AI generated images of the AI writers.

Proof, that there is hope, that Bryan Driskell is nothing more than a mountain drinking robot, not a mom's basement troll.

Going to be awkward when Clown Illustrated also names him their "Person of the year"

This may come off a bit homerish given my handle, but Caitlin Clark seemed deserving.

But agree with the overall sentiment in the thread... who gives two fucks about si anymore. Cliiiiick baitey

I wonder if the AI bot that writes articles for them came up with the Sportsman Of The Year winner.

No italics.

What Caitlin Clark has done for women’s sports is far more significant than anything Sanders did.
