I saw that the other day when the jackpot was around 350-400 million the return on investment (including all possible minor winnings, taxes etc...) was like -$1.14 or something per $2 ticket.

But who cares? Its fun imagining "what ifs". Getting you hopes up, thinking you might actually win it all only to be ultimately disappointed when its all said and done---- a lot like being a Notre Dame fan on a yearly basis.

yup, about the same odd as us getting another natty :)

He's going to be looking for a job.. you could probably just hire him directly and get the same satisfaction for a lot cheaper. Buying the Browns to do it though... that's just throwing away money :)

I grew up a Steelers fans, in the 70s and 80s, in Canton............ 50 miles south of Cleveland. The satisfaction of running that franchise even FURTHER into the ground would be worth every penny.

TV reporter was interviewing some guy in Vegas who had just bought tickets. She asked him what is the first thing he would do if he won. His reply, "A bunch of hookers and cocaine". Her reply, Oh my, that's not the answer we were looking for". lol

I'm picking up what you're laying down kmoose. I think I'd buy the patriots and make Tom cry for me and my friends on command.

Do you need a GM with ZERO experience that would be happy to help you run that franchise into the ground? If so I'm in!

Have a guy at work who plays every drawing using the same numbers and had me thinking today if he using his hodge podge of random numbers and playing it in every drawing had a better chance than someone who goes and gets a random ticket.

It doesn't make any statistical difference. You could play 01 02 03 04 05 01 every time and you would have the same exact odds.

Gat is correct. You have the same numbers every time, so the odds never change. If a certain number gets picked more often than another number, it's purely coincidence. Here's the list of numbers that have been selected the most of the last 15 years. As you can see they are extremely close on the number of times they've been selected.

#26 (drawn 266 times)

#41 (drawn 255 times)

#22 (drawn 254 times)

#16 (drawn 254 times)

#42 (drawn 253 times)

#35 (drawn 251 times)

#39 (drawn 250 times)

I'd have a bunch of fun, take good care of friends and family, give to charity , drop half into a no touch interest only account, and then feel entitled to say F*** you a lot.

Just saying

I believe they refer to that as a F*** you account.

We did an office pool for last night's draw. Hit for 122 bucks. rolling that back in and adding to it. while the odds are crazy against everyone,,, who cares... it's fun lol.

about 4 years ago, did an office pool (we only do it when it gets big like this), and we hit for 10k... my phone blew up after the draw :) as everyone gets a scan of the tix... was pretty fun.

Anything over 10 grand don't you have to notify the IRS? So who took the income tax hit? :)

That's super cool BTW.

One of my employees/David offered to do it. Our CFO figured up what the hit would be, and we gave him that plus $100 for going through the pain of claiming it.

They're doing an office pool and I'm absolutely flabbergasted that I was the only one who didn't participate. These are finance professionals, flushing money down the drain.

Also, 2 bucks is a nice insurance policy in the event they win. Do you really want to be the only guy left in the department after everyone quits?

They did a $20 minimum. I'm "that guy" around here anyways. I flat-out told the guy running the pool that the lottery is a tax on people who can't do math and he got a kick out of it.

I'm sure the rest of the department is having a good laugh about "you calling them stupid", as well. As a football fan, you should really understand the concept that sometimes you do things that are not in your best interest, for the sake of the team. Sometimes being a good teammate can come back to you, a thousand times over.

Maybe I didn't explain the dynamic very well. I'm the good-humored contrarian around here. It's a shtick.
