This post is a joke. Kelly offense is fine. They put up enough points to win last night. Kelly has a top 20 offense each year. I don't care if you and your friends find it boring to watch, it's effective and that's all the matters. I thought the toss to Hunter and throw back to Kizer was a cool play, but I guess it's Vanilla. Watching Sanders catch that screen and weave through traffic in OT was so boring and vanilla also I suppose.

Please!

Offense is not going to be a problem as long as kiser is the one hitting the gas. Kiser and Adams are great together.

I don't care about electric. I care about points. If Kelly can continue to score 40 points off of only 5 plays, then I am good with that. It's not that you are wrong about the offense being vanilla. It's that it DOESN'T MATTER, as long as they continue to score 40 points with it. The LAST fvcking thing I care about, in regards to ND football, is how excited your friends are to watch it.

Exactly. Ever since 2013 the offense has been one of the best in the country year in and year out. I don't think the offense is Vanilla. But if it is I don't care because hey put up points every game.

The most encouraging thing I saw was when a FR WR (Stepherson) was lining up wrong and ESB smacked him on the helmet to get him fixed. It was late on the game. At least he was showing leadership. He will be special.

I think the arrest has messed with Stepherson head. Don't think his mind is right currently.

Anyway we have 3 very good starting receivers. After that the only receive I trust is Miles Boykins.

Where was Nick Weisher last night?

Where was Tyler Latua last night? Was he in on run plays? If not he should have been to get that extra push.

-disappointed in defense...very weak secondary
-front seven outplayed
-Kizer was great
-loss of Alize will haunt them...TE nowhere to be found
-Saunders had a great night with returns
-OL whiffed, never established dominance to allow "cram it down your throats"
-hope Hunter recovers to play this week, bad no call

I hate targeting, if for no other reason that the call or no call always feels like it goes against ND

I knew it wasn't going to end well when Kelly ran the ball on 3rd and twelve at the end of the 4th. A lot of decisions he makes are just head scratchers. To him always burning timeouts in close games because it's 3rd and long and the play clock is winding down to personnel decisions. The challenge on Luke's interception was laughable... it didn't even last three seconds.

Most disappointing thing to me was the play of Nelson and McGlichey.

Did you just fast forward through the every series that ND played on defense? The offense is fine minus a few tweaks. The defense on the other hand is a complete dumpster fire.

Positives:
Kizer = legit
Great display of heart down 17
Win out and a double OT loss at a strong Texas team is no biggie
Not going to see that tempo + talent for a while
Young secondary bodes well for next year (2017 here we come!)
No other teams on the schedule looked that impressive

Negatives:
Lost the game #hottake
Too many negative plays in run game
Most thought we would lose 2 - 4 games between UT, MSU, TREE, USC, no margin for error
Defense looked lost, But hopefully that can be chalked up to new system and QB that made prep difficult

BLUF: use this as motivation/ wake up and pound Nevada into Bolivia

1. Kizer is our QB1, no question. MZ only plays in an injury or mop-up.

2. Our OL looked pretty damned good IMO.

3. Without Hunter, we may be in trouble. ESB is good. Miss Alize.

4. Folston didn't show much juke-and-jive but was OK, Adams was pretty solid.

5. DL was average. Rochel was good and our DT's were OK at best. Trumbetti sucks. I wanna see what Jay/Daelin can do.

6. I liked our LB's. Nyles was great.

7. Our corners got beat. Luke tightened up as the game went on and played better. Nick Coleman shouldn't play this year. Don't even get me going about our safeties. Avery's whiffed tackle to allow the first down on the 1 made me soooo pissed. We need to see what our freshman can do. Really disappointed in Tranquil.

8. CJ had a GREAT game. Love having him.

9. 3rd and twelve run up the gut was RETARDED and GUTLESS.

I love NDFB so much that I get really optimistic in the off-season. I truly thought we would be better than this. Our big problems lay in DB and experience and playmaking at the WR spot. We need some guys to step up. Something like a Julian Love come in and have a Keivarae Russell TF kinda year, for example. We need some guys to step up. I hate to say it but I think with Max on the field last night, we would've been a better team.

I don't understand the play calling after the score was tied at 37. Draw play on 3rd and 12, with Kizer playing as well as he was at that time. Should have stepped on them and they let them up. Plenty of time to move down the field, score and avoid OT altogether.

Watching the flow of the game it was extremely evident that going into OT was going to dangerous territory for ND.

It was like when Oklahoma had that Belldozer kid a couple years back. Huge red flag that the QB would be able to just run the ball in the red zone

For ND pretty much 2 missed completions by Kizer or a receiver in any OT possession would mean a FG attempt. UT would basically have 4 opportunities to run that QB (if needed) to move the chains. Those are not good odds.

I understand the decision from a conventional sense. But it's like Kelly's math versus Clemson last year coming back to bite him in the ass. Kelly is great at many things and good at most but it were me I'd go all in with my philosophy not start and stop like Kelly seems to do at key points

Taking a step back this team actually looks better than I expected. Didn't expect them to lose to Texas and it's fucking retarded but the OL, Kizer, EQ are ballerzzz straight up. Athleticism is off the charts. Frankly it's a young team so coming in you have to have expected at least 1 (more likely 2) idiot losses.

Plus Kelly and team always seem to screw up or outsmart themselves on a couple games. They walk away from some and take the bullet on others. I just expect that now from ND. In this case if he'just plays Kizer the entire game it's at least another 3-4 possessions that Kizer would have had to score another TD and ND wins the game no OT

Not trying to start a fight but I respectfully disagree about our OL. I am rewatching the game now. Our OL was great IMO against a pretty good Texas DL. My opinion.

Not-so-random thoughts:

- Kizer was amazing tonight and deserved a better outcome. I feel bad for Zaire being Wally Pipped, but Kizer is clearly above him. We may as well enjoy him this year - he's likely a 1st round pick in the upcoming draft.

- It was a fun game to watch if you had no rooting interest. Too bad we all did.

- Most of the blame will go to BVG for this atrocity of a defense, and I do think he should shoulder much of that blame. However, it's year 7 (YEAR SEVEN!) and ND still has nothing resembling a defense. At what point should Brian Kelly start shouldering the blame for the year in and year out trainwreck that is the ND defense? His ND teams are nearly identical to his Cincy teams - good offense, pathetic defenses, hope to win shootouts. I'm sick of watching this, personally.

- The season just got much less fun, as ND's playoff chances are toast, short of an extremely unlikely 11 game win streak to finish the season. Their QB is likely gone after this season too. I don't know... just isn't as intriguing to me at this point. I'll still watch, but there will be little to no emotional investment.

- I really hated Kelly going uber conservative and running on 3rd and 12 with 3 minutes left. Fucking lame.

- I hated him not going for two in OT even more. Everyone watching this game knew the defense couldn't get a stop. ND's only non-turnover shot at winning in OT was going for two. I understand that it was conventional to kick the extra point, but the best chance to win was going for 2.

- Hope Hunter is okay. He took a vicious hit. The play should have been reviewed for targeting.

- Hate to say that the season is over after week 1, but if making the playoff was your goal, it's essentially over. This team is a mess.

Not sure what you are talkin about. ND's defense under Diaco was pretty darn good. In fact, it was statistically the best since the Holtz era. So the defense hasn't always been terrible under Kelly. But BVG is quickly looking like the worst hire if his tenure.

Defense is not tough at all. Talent is there. But they run around with their heads cut off not knowing the scheme and aren't tough enough to fight through it. Some individuals flashed throughout the game but as a unit? Woof.

Yea, I thought at the very least, we could count on a few players to play extremely well. That might carry the whole squad to a victory. Those two were not as advertised.

Did they play well? Yes. But they did not dominate as expected.

BTW Mustipher had a horrible game. I'm thinking it was just first start jitters in a hostile environment with 100k screaming fans.

Can someone tell me if they saw Tyler Latua play last night?

If not maybe it would have been smart to help create a push on running plays!

I for sure saw him on one play that I can recall. I think it was a run stuffed in the backfield. I don't think it was his fault.

After reading what bk said about bVG I personally have lost a to of respect for bk. Never thought I would say that. But saying bVG is quite good at his job. I have lost respect for bk. So, I see where we are going. The last 3 games proves that.

He's listed in the participation report. The problem with that is that you never know if he played at his position, or if he was on Special Teams.

If I don't remember seeing him play, then he did not play nearly enough.

Chase Claypool made a few ST tackles. He looked good. I hope he gets a shot at WR, but I wouldn't be surprised if he got a look rushing the passer next year. Great tackler and a legit 6'5 220-225

am i the only one who thought zaire just had bad luck in the few possessions he had? I really didnt feel like they let him use his arm enough and when they did he just had shit luck. I think he has a better arm than kizer, and better feet. I think Kizer is great but he had all of last season to play and is more settled in. I really wish at the end of the 2nd they would of put the ball in zaires hand. he can throw it over the mountains and when the receivers run off the secondary he's better at running. He never gained any confidence.

I agree in that on his possessions he didn't seem to have any opportunities to make plays as he didn't have any nice running lanes or open WR's. I disagree that he has a better arm than Kizer. No way does he have a better arm than Kizer. As far as his feet, he's a more elusive runner and can pick up yards with his feet but man! So can Kizer. He had a 30 yard run for a TD last night after bewailing a tackle. I respectfully disagree with you about those points but agree that he had some bad luck and he is a great talent.
