I missed it when it flashed on screen but that Pitt back up Yarnell is 30 yrs old. (he's really 21)

NBC sucks

So funny you posted this. I scoured the Internet trying to find out how a class of '21 grad was 30yo to no avail

Was the clock management gaffe before the half? I need to rewatch. Also, shame on Bertrand for the blindside hit on C’Bo to fuck our field position. I’m really tired of the mental errors like this.

I need to watch this as well. I was listening on the radio, Bermeister and Harris were about to have a stroke. But, just from listening to it, it didn’t seem that bad.

.

I will say it although it’s been said before, wtf Freeman? Clock management, just another sign of occasional poor coaching. It’s minor this time, but matched with other examples throughout his tenure…..the staff needs to man up and clean up their errors.
When you’re D is handling their offense leaving 25 seconds on the clock for Pitt to use wasn’t going to be an issue.

If it’s not here, Steve Angeli is going to have a football career somewhere. He’s been nothing but class and hard work. I like how he plays, even if he’s considered to not have some of those elite attributes.
It’s been limited action, but I’ve been impressed with him in that limited time. Seems to have it between the ears.

The way he carries himself when he gets on the field is certainly not like most second string QBs……he looks very confident. Compare this to last year when Drew Pyne came into games early in the season. Angeli looked like he knew exactly what he was doing on each snap.

He's a three year starter at half of the Big Ten, minimum. Hate to lose him for a one and done.

Can’t add much other than again Rico Flores needs to learn to help his quarterback. I felt in the first interception at Louisville and again on one thrown last night he didn’t adjust and prevent the int. I know he’s a freshman, but it’s worth pointing out.

My hope is that this is a teaching moment for Stuckey b/c you’re right he’s been too passive at times. But he is a true freshman so overall he’s been a net positive to the depleted WR room. For a WR to be ready to compete as a freshman, it looks apparent to me that it requires them to come from a HS program that truly develops WR vs kids getting by on superior athleticism or bad competition. Greathouse comes from a powerhouse in Texas and it showed early on before he got the hamstring issue. I’m guessing (b/c I truly don’t know) that Tobias got by on being a speedster who could outrun everyone & not have to fight for contested passes.

And he eerily looks like Tommy Rees w/ his helmet on. Maybe he should shave the ’stache but I swear he looks like a taller Rees.

It makes zero sense that these children have a way of responding to their coaches reality.

I hate Pitt, but now I hate young men who think they know the reality of their situation,... without any real Life experience... worse.

Sir...

As the resident Dead Head and top hippie... I'm gonna have to have you turn in your pfp.

Too much hate coursing through you.

Perhaps we can interest you in a nice Gadsen Flag avatar?

Thank you for your cooperation,

The Mgt.

Postgame Thoughts:
1) Defense is getting better & better each game, if ND could've gotten to OSU's QB as much as they did vs. USC & Pitt we beat OSU.
2) Xavier's stock is rising, not to take anything away from him but happy for Mickey and his pick 6.
3) Tyree's punt return was in the end zone I sit it. What a beautiful play he made 5 guys miss him.
4) Glad to see Angeli get some PT, I hope the last 3 games play out that he gets PT, I was impressed by him.
5) I love all of our options at RB- Estime, Price, & Love all bring something different and they compliment each other.
6) Nice to see Tobias have a long catch, I wish ND utilized him more than just a deep threat guy.
7) I was impressed by the players walk. Behind the team were some committed players and lastly Coach Shrewsberry was walking with a commit/recruit. I never saw Brey walking with the team.

Go Irish!!

It wasn’t atrocious, but he really didn’t need to do it. X was already hopping out toward the sideline and JD was peeling back toward the football, which there is no margin for error blocking in that situation. It was a penalty and not really a smart play. But, you get that sometimes when you’ve got guys trying to execute blocks when they aren’t normally tasked with doing so.

I thought it was overall an outstanding effort by the kids and the coaching staff in the game. Hartman played well, aside from the tipped pass interception (the first pick was a clear missed hook by the Pitt safety on Flores). The defense was on point all game, with excellent pressure up front and really good coverage in the secondary, especially by the replacements. A casual viewer would never have known that the starting corners were out for 3/4 of the game. Estime was his bulldozing self, Tyree has really emerged as a receiver with down the field ability, and his punt return was absolutely sick. Very proud of that young man for embracing his position switch. Also, Xavier Watts has really had the light turn on this year - his play at safety has been simply fantastic. Nothing better than to see Narduzzi get embarrassed on national TV.

Only complaints were not finishing drives in the first half, and the clock management cluster at the end of the first half. Other than that, it was a splendid Saturday afternoon. Now, go out and bury Clemson.

Second half was creative and offensively and a lot of big plays defensively

First half, we had no clue what we were doing offensively.

Hopefully second half offense Carrie’s over to Clemson. We need to get a lead early vs Clemson and they could fold. A slow/bad offensive start again keeps them alive and fighting
Hart and benmo status will be important

Im with you on Rico.

As for the clock management, i have no problem with Freeman's approach. Easy to secondguess with hindsight, but i thought bleeding the clock was a sound approach to ensure pitt wouldn't have time to take some shots.
If Evans isn't so blatant with the pick, Freeman looks like a genius.

Yeah then I remembered Parker coaches Evans position so he must have been doubly mad.

I would agree except we were playing an offense that antes to get to halftime and had minimal chance to move the ball under a minute

What was with the pouch kicks, squib kicks and OB kicks when you have a kicker who can kick it out of the end zone?

Maybe weird kicks was just practicing in a blow out?

How bad is Jurkovec that he’s sitting 3rd string behind Vielleux? I’m no QB guru but Vielleux doesn’t look like a 4-star recruit who transferred from PSU. He’s been horrible so that tells Phive Star Phil is even worse. I predict Phil gets another shot at starting before year is over. Pitt is that bad on that side of the ball.

No one would look good with the oline here was working behind. It was patchwork at best. Not saying he's decent, but can't give a fair eval when he's running for his life all game.

fair, which again begs the question how bad was Phil that he wasn’t given a similar pass?

I wonder if this is it for Narduzzi at Pitt. He’s mismanaged the QB situation so badly this year.
Is he a possibility at MSU? Could that be an escape hatch for him?

That first half all I could keep thinking about was how the offense has become the defense in my mind in that I just want Hartman and Parker to hold the other team so the defense and special teams can win the game. It's a horrible way to live.

The second half was obviously better. Such a weird team and a weird season, but we're staring down the barrel of what should be the second most manageable portion of the schedule now. Beat Clemson next, which is incredibly doable.
