I actually think Robby Toma is going to be pretty outstanding next year. He shows an energy and an 'it' factor that I think can overcome his lack of height.

Andrew was bomb! Can't wait to see him and Golson next year.

I agree that I can't wait for a new secondary, this game they didn't do so bad but ...

Why are we not returning ANY punts even for one frikin yard?!?!?!

I don't agree with No.2. Did you notice Stanford didn't have the same slipping problems? They're used to that ****hole of a field. We slipped on critical plays, T.J. for the first down, we had to punt. Harrison missed a tackle because he couldn't get turned. A slip in the secondary for a big yardage pass play. We don't play on that garbage, they're adjusted to it. The field was a difference maker I think. NCAA should get them to fix the field or start to fine them.

No.5-So true about old Brent. He did the same thing last year with Manti's name. He's getting a bit old, but what excuse does that partner of his have? Opposite end of the age spectrum maybe, the total tonnage of what he doesn't know would fill the universe.

Notre Dame knew going into the game the field was SH#$. They should have prepared better for it. We got out played by a good football team, I can't say that on a good field we would have won. As far as Brent's partner....I did wonder if after the game if him and MR. Luck were going to share a room

The pass protection was terrible. The overall play was pretty bad as well. This game was painful to watch. Irish have a lot of work to do. I think BK will get it done, but I'm afraid it's a case of wait until the year after next year.

I really wish that we had more speed in the back 7. It doesn't seem like any of our LB's are good in pass coverage...even Fleming(who had a solid year IMO)looked like he ran about a 4.9 40 on that INT return.

Run blocking was horrible as well. Dever, Golic, and Robinson were all really bad for playing in their last regular season game. It's kinda sad.

I know what your saying, but they only got one day to get ready on that field. Stanford's been playing on it like that for about 3 weeks according to Miss Sideline in the pre-game. Not an excuse for losing, you're right, but it factored heavily I'm afraid. I hate that stuff, it's a literal `level the playing field' issue. It's like poor officiating, I don't like to see a good game spoiled by it.
The get a room reference was hilarious. Keep 'em coming mpk.

I don't know that you can 'prepare' for a bad field, but I agree that it probably didn't affect the outcome of the game.

Hendrix is tough too! He took that real hard hit and shook it off. I would have needed a band-aid and my mommy.

Put in longer cleats. I thought it was pretty clear that Kelly was yelling at some staff, I think it was after the TJ slip and miss for the 1st down.

Need 1 less postmoretem thoughts.

Kelly and some of his play calling is mind numbing sometimes.

* Rees is terrible.

* Hendrix wasn't perfect, but he showed a lot of promise tonight. Definitely played better than Rees.

* Wood didn't do much, but he had no holes to run through, either.

* Floyd now holds the single season reception record with 95 grabs.

* Eifert is a stud.

* Offensive line was crap, especially Golic, who was abysmal.

* Loved the effort from the defensive line and the linebackers.

* Secondary actually played very well considering the quarterback they were facing.

* Punt return game needs a serious boost. It's horrific.

* The second half was a lot more encouraging than the first, that's for sure.

Also, the field was terrible.

The sideline reporter said 85% of the ND players were wearing 1/2 inch cleats, which are the longest allowed by the NCAA. But a lot of them still slipped because they'd never played in those conditions before.

KMoose, you nailed it. ... I'd add only one thought. Notre Dame really missed Jonas Gray's power running. Stanford would've had problems against him that a defense doesn't get with these runners who stutter-step sideways.

Andrew Hendrix!!! The difference in his arm strength is unreal. Is ability to make plays with his feet is what this team has been lacking all year. Will he play great every week? No. Should be fun to watch him grow.

I will say that if Rees starts in the bowl game, Brian Kelly is a stubborn mule.

Defense played their asses off all night. They held the future number one pick and potential Heisman trophy winner in check for the most part in the second half.

Notre Dame missed Jonas Gray badly. Cierre is very good but he doesn't seem to be an every down back.

Stanford defensive front seven is GOOD. Yea our OL played badly but part of that was Stanford causing problems.

Hope we don't lose Eifert along with Floyd after this year.

Win this bowl game and recruit well and head off into the off-season with some more momentum. Get ready for Ireland.

Though I was excited to see Hendrix give a spark to the O, Kelly gave a big F U to Crist today. One day after saying the kid's his #2, he doesnt give Dayne a snap in two classic next man in situations. Felt bad for Crist, Kelly clearly loathes him.

What would you have done different? He worked with what he had. Backs had holes to run through but slipped at least 5 times I counted where they could have easily had a first down. Drops, turnovers, and penalties were once again a major factor in the slowing of the offense, shooting themselves in the foot for the 1,000,000th time this season.

1. That field was just crazy. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that. Had at least ~6 big plays that went against us because of that turf (TJ Jones slipping, Zeke Motta slipping, etc. etc.). I don't know what else there really is to say about it. But it's certainly not the reason we lost.

2. Tommy Rees is what he is. Everyone wit ha brain on this board said before any games were played this year that if Tommy won the job we were an 8 to 9 win team at best. Well, look where we are.

3. Our defense, especially in the second half, played really outstanding. Held Stanford to their lowest point total all year. Hats off to those guys and Diaco.

4. What the eff happend to our OL???? They played absolutely horrible today. Completely out of sync with multiple false starts as well as miscommunications. And Zach Martin really got owned 1v1 in some situations... I've never seen something like that.

5. We're 8-4 which means we finished 1/2 of a game below the Vegas line for the season. This means, by objective measure, that we did not meet expectations. I also feel that we're going to get tooled by FSU who has the speed on defense to shut down our offense.

It was amazing how much more dynamic the offense looked with Hendrix in there. As he grew more comfortable, it looked better and better. His ability to run changed everything. It kept the D honest. The term "goodness of fit" is what comes to mind. Also, he throws freaking hard.

14-7 in the second half. I will take it. Look at the stats from first half to second, big change. I think they had like 18 first half first down to 7 for ND. They finished with 25 (I think) and ND had something like 22. ND made up some ground in yards as well.

The field neutralized the ND speed at RB. the RB's could not turn a corner. Also, Riddick seems to be more comfortable and better suited at RB. Conversely, I like Toma better at WR.

As everyone noted, the O-line was bad. Golic especially.

The secondary drives me crazy. Each game, they play a game of musical chairs of who is going to suck.

The poor tacking and dumb penalties are not acceptable.

We lost to a better team. I'm not ashamed of that. However our defense looked very good in the second half. They slowed Stanford's running game and forced Luck to make some poor passes.

If somebody would have told me before the Utah game that Tommy Rees would have led us this far, I would have called bullshit. He's not the best athlete on the team, but god dammit the kid is a gamer. I can't even bag on him this game. He didn't play his best, but he left it all on the field. His time as the starting QB may be over, but I'm pleased with the way he led this team.
