Pitt took Michael Floyd completely out of the game(I'd call that pretty decent play) and Tommy turned it over twice, and we still won. I see what you are saying, but, really..........outside of Stanford, there's probably no teams left on the schedule that are significantly better than Pitt.

I would take Navy over Pitt and Air Force as well, Mark it down right now we lose to Navy or Air Force or BOTH! We are such a terrible football team its pathetic. Maine scored 29 on Pitt and minus that 75 yard Jonas Gray run we only scored 1 friggen touchdown. We will lose 3 or 4 more games yet.

Did anyone else notice that Tuitt was playing nose late in the game to maximize the pass rush?

I think we will definitely see more of that in obvious passing downs, commanding a double team and freeing Lynch up more.

Okay I have another complaint. Why is Louis Nix always lined up 1 yard away from the line? I noticed this all year and he's getting used at the point of attack. Am I the only one besides Urban Meyer that has notice this? He said something about it at the game yesterday and he did not understand why he was lining up so far away.

I really hadn't noticed him doing it all games this year. I did notice it yesterday though. I think he may have been off the line because of a stinger he got in his arm.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he has been doing it all year. At least that's what I have been noticing. But hey, that could just be the pot talking. :)

Bro.... I have been a member here now for three - four years. I have followed your posts on a consistent basis. I can tell and feel your frustration my friend. I have the same... I know you are pissed at the Irish as a whole as well as I. Should lining up a yard of the line be a factor??? Hell no. But the little things are starting show up now. I don't know if its the members on this board, the sports community or just the will for the Irish to get back to prominence that makes us so hyped up before the season starts just to get knocked in the kisser...

I'm with you holmes!!!!!

If our quarterback is the problem, then why are we content to sit this year out in regards to recruiting a quarterback. If the right quarterback is not on the roster, then we should be looking for a new one. The way our quarterbacks have played should be a message to high school quarterbacks across the nation. Needed. One solid quarterback.

Because we have two sophomore QBs and a freshman on the roster right now.

And I believe they made offers to 3 of the top QBs this year.

Because High School QB's, nomatter how good they are, can NOT come in and be productive. Actually, the take it a step further, a QB, ideally, should not see the field until he is a Junior, and has been sitting for 2-3 years watching the game.

Re: Nix. I could be wrong about this, but I see our nose tackles lining up at different distances depending on the D-call. Plus, Nix has been incredibly effective at stuffing the interior to my eyes and the entire coaching staff states so too. Nix has been the one CONSTANT positive remarks guy as far as presscons are concerned. I find it rather "twilight zone-ish" to be picking him out of all people.

Concerning the successful Pitt QB sneak. I am not sure that that was even Nix in there on that play at the nose. In fact we did not line up a tackle over center that play, I believe. I'll agree we were in a give-up alignment but it could have been alignment error by the D-Line. On the second QB sneak possibility, when Pitt chose NOT to sneak, but rather run Graham [and we stuffed him wide], we WERE in a nose-to-center alignment and it WAS Nix on the nose. I believe, contrary to this anti-Nix griping [which completely blows my mind] that it was precisely the fact that Big Lou was there that they did not dare running there. [They certainly saw on film the famous Mexican Fire Drill play on the goal-line, where we were rushing all sorts of people in, mainly Big Lou right on the nose --- the one which resulted in the Blanton interception; they didn't dare Nix either; and the one the previous game, I think it was, where Nix stuffed the entire center of the field at the goal line.]

I've been MIGHTILY impressed by Louis Nix. Kelly has been impressed. Diaco has been impressed. Our D-Line coach has been impressed. One of my brothers [who played O-Line for Cincinnati] said "who's that run-stuffer guy you got? you know the guy with the butt two axe-handles wide?".

I don't get this.

That doesn't look like a head coach who just beat a rival on the road. He has not swagger, no confidence, he looks 5 years older than he did this summer, and he doesn't look the reporters in the eye when he answers their questions.

He has to be so frustrated with the QB issues. It's the only thing holding us back right now (plus PR fumbles). We have so much talent on this team.

I disagreed when you posted the exact same thing on another thread, and I disagree here. Watch the postgame celebration with his team, and tell me he's not happy. You're looking for something that's just not there. Of course he's frustrated, but he hasn't lost his confidence just because you don't like the way he looked at the presser. I've searched the web, I've seen the presser myself, and you're the only one who has come to that conclusion.

Again, watch the postgame with his players, when he gets to be himself, and tell me he isn't happy with the win.

First of all, I couldn't find this exact post elsewhere so I assumed it was deleted.

Second of all, I've watched many if not all of BKs conferences, starting this spring and I've never seen him look like this.

He's always had a swagger about him, been confident, added a little humor, looked reporters in the eye, etc.

If you don't see it, that's fine. Just my opinion.

My best guess for this alignment is the 2-gap responsibilities of the DL in our defense. Nix's job is to play two gaps and control the line of scrimmage rather than penetrate one gap and get into the backfield. Lining up off the ball allows him to read the backfield while engaging the OL. With the 2-gap system, penetrating through one would create a running lane for the offense to exploit.

All i know is i have have my reasoing for what crist as the starter. And i don't think Rees could be even close to having his name mentioned in the top QBs in college football. But it quite obvious that 90% think Rees is he man. I will support him as a fan of the team but this is my last comment on Rees/Crist converstion.

#NotreDame's defense has permitted only two opponent rushing scores over its last nine combined games - both were 1-yard QB sneaks

Crazy. With all the nitpicking we are doing, I'll just throw it out there that I'd rather have a solid defense and a offense (qb) that needs improvement than the inverse. I've seen how that turns out, and I much prefer our current situation.

That's amazing considering how opponents used to impose their will on the ground against us in recent years.

After the last four ND turnovers (vs. Pitt and Michigan State) ensuing opponent drives have netted 12 yds on 14 plays (resulting in two FGs). Our defense feasts on sudden change.

Mind you one of those TDs (USC) started on the 2 yard line and it still took them until 4th down to score. That's awesome.

This just needs to be posted if it hasn't already. I was so happy for this kid after everything he has gone through.

Reps. I could watch Big Mike abuse that little DB and throw him around like a ragdoll all day long.
