1. I've decided that I am going to start EVERY "Post Game Observations" thread of mine, no matter how well he plays, with a shout out to Cierre Wood. He is playing excellent football. He's not going to be a serious contender for the Doak Walker Award, but he's absolutely a talented DI-A tailback.

2. WOW..... once again, many of us thought that our hearts would stop, as the Irish snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once again. This team held it together today. They never quit, they didn't hang their heads when things went wrong.....they just went out and played the next play; just like you are supposed to do.

3. Tommy Rees: I've been giving people grief for calling for his benching. I readily admit that he turns the ball over way too much. However, comma; this offense is averaging @27 points a game, with him. Not despite him, but with him. You could argue that, without his turnovers, we could be averaging more. But I would submit that we probably would not be moving the ball as well, and therefore averaging less, without him in the game.

4. Robert F'in Blanton! He had my game ball, even before the great INT at the end.

5. Finally, some bounces go our way! That fumble by GAIII? That ball could not have bounced better.

6. Aaron Lynch has the ability to be a dominant defensive lineman. I'm not saying he WILL be, but he sure looked like he belonged on the field, today. I'm not going overboard about his sack/forced fumble, though. If you look at the replay, the offensive lineman across from him jumped inside, at the snap, and then just kind of "ole-ed" at Lynch, as he went by. You really have to think, though, that he will be something special, if he works hard and learns well.

7. My Game Ball goes to..............the team. I was really impressed with their resilience, in the face of adversity. Again, they never quit!

- Tommy Rees is average. Too many turnovers, but can throw a good ball. Great pre-snap reads.

- Cierre Wood and Jonas Gray are good.

- Michael Floyd wasn't godly today, but he made some great plays.

- TJ Jones made some big plays.

- Was not pleased with the run blocking in the second half. At all.

- Defense played very well, although the pass defense is still kind of porous.

When Lynch did the 'no-gain' sign where they swing their arms out, I though he was turning into a pterodactyl. He's so big and has incredible wingspan. He's going to play a lot from here on out.

And where is Theo Riddick? I thought he was going to have a huge year. We need him to step up and be someone that the defense has to game-plan for.

Now, for a more productive chat, sack/fumble on Rees could have been prevented if he threw it sooner but really was the OL fault. Hard to fault him on that.

Interception was definitely his fault but that had 7 game starter written all over it. He is still young. Must take the bumps along the way.

Rees is still trying to get on the same page with the offense. That much was evident by guys stopping and him throwing deep or vice versa. Not saying it's his fault but you can see the disconnect.

Outside of the 4th quarter against Michigan, the D has been amazing. Interestingly (or not) enough, when Lynch and Tuitt get reps, things happen defensively for the better.

To be fair he had a big game last week. He is still developing as a WR. He will have his weeks, he will have his off ones. Next week, I think he will explode. Pitt's secondary is horrid!

I think Rees has the potential to be really good, but I just don't know if he will be the starter all year. I really won't be surprised if we see Dayne if he starts off slow against Pitt.

MSU had good coverage and Martin completely failed on picking up the edge rush.

To quote Wedding Crashers, "we're not that young". Theo has a year starting under his belt and he's a junior. These kids don't have 12 year careers like the pros. He was solid last year and is doing a vanishing act this year. I think he'll make an impact before the year's over, I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

Theo could help Tommy out so much if he gets it together. Tommy could look like a totally different QB if defenses had to keep an eye on Theo.

MSU defense ran a stunt on their right side. ND LG pushed his man to the outside toward Martin then released him as he engaged Martin's man who went around the DT to the inside of the LG. The DT was now in the backfield unopposed he reached around Rees as he was bringing the ball back - blind side fumble.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. They have been very good, but I wouldn't call it "amazing". They did allow an 80 yard TD drive, to USF, in the 4th quarter. And they had a couple of "bad" drives today. Not saying that they haven't played well, but neither would I call it amazing. The thing that I was most impressed with, today, was watching the defensive linemen get off of a block and make a tackle, within a couple of yards (+/-) of the line of scrimmage. That's something that has been missing from ND's defense, for a very long time.

Yeah, we gave up 329 yards through the air.

Robert Blanton...Thank you. Him and Harrison played well off each other all day and with 'Teo leading the D, and getting production from Lynch and the rest of the D line, our D is a force to be reckoned with. Honestly special teams and D get the game ball for me. Floyd played as usual and Tommy is starting to look more composed. When T.J. and Theo get in the mix, our offense is way more dynamic. Go IRISH!

Yeah, we gave up 329 yards through the air.

A lot of which is a hurting Gary Gray's fault. I swear everytime I see an open receiver, I see Gary Gray closest in the vicinity.

I hope his foot heals completely soon because it is definitely effecting the way he plays.

1.) Kick coverage was pathetic
2.) GAIII's kick return was obviously huge, just needs to be more carefull with the ball.
3.) Turnovers are still a bit of an issue
4.) Robert Freakin Blanton 'nough said
5.) Cierre has impressed me. Honestly didn't think he'd be this good of a running back.
6.) Aaron Lynch is a monter and oh yeah he's a freshman 3 games into his career.
7.) Tommy Rees is an average QB, but he has ice water in his veins.
8.) Tom Hammond is pathetic, terrible or a number of other words.

All i can come up with.

Oh also glad to see NDOM lose 2 billions VBucks :)

Everyone was killing Gray, in the gameday thread, about that pass in the first quarter. You know what, people? Sometimes opposing players just make good plays!!! That play was a great pitch and catch, on MSU's part. Gray actually had good coverage, got his head around, and made a play on the ball. He missed, but it was a good throw, and a good catch.

Kelly post game is on live at NBCsports.com

I usually watch the post game show on und.com. Jack Nolan, Mirko Jurkovic, and Reggie Brooks. They break the game down by quarters. And they always show the ND coach's Press Conference. A great show, really. It's one of the many reasons that, if I had a choice, I would rather trade lives with Jack Nolan than with Hugh Hefner.

Dude, they threw the ball 53 effing times. They sold out to stop the run, which they did. And when you do that and the other team throws the ball 53 times...you're going to give up some yards. Not saying they were fantastic, but they weren't nearly as bad as some people are portraying...

...Amen there. Great action from the D line...nobody got to the second level clean...many never made the second level.

Blanton played a fantastic game! Player of the game IMO.

Still a bit concered about the execution of the offense in the second half. Outside of the one drive with the perfect pass by Rees to TJ, it struggled quite a bit.

Defense. Very nice. But, in all fairness, this personal is setup to dominate a pro-style offense. The front seven are really good. Even better when they rotate!

Special teams. GAIII, nice KO return! First frshman since the Rocket to take a KO back to the house.

Turnovers, Turnovers, Turnovers.... Mistakes, Mistakes, Mistakes... Ok so they didnt turn the ball over 5 times, so I guess its an improvement, but geez, the way they lose the ball sometimes just blows me away. 5 TO's and we prolly lose this game...

Schedule is still gonna be brutal.. Navy is playing South Carolina tough, Pitt played Iowa good, USC (still USC), Stanford, Maryland.... Its still a real tough road, but this win was BIG!! Keep the momentum going.

1. Cierre Wood is turning into an elite back.

2. Robert Blanton played like a champion today, so did Hayseed.

3. D-line was dominant and it was nice seeing the young guys let loose in obvious passing downs. Its gonna be fun to watch as we start playing more pro style offenses coming up.

4. Tommy Rees nneds to stop forcing things.

5. O-line is solid but still can't get the short yards

6. TURNOVERS. TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS
