This game has to restore the belief in the recruits. and maybe some could be kicking themselves????

For the first time this season (or any season in a while) they played like they wanted to win and had that intensity theyve lacked (think blocked punts, forced fumbles, interceptions, tough running)

Yeah, exactly. As I said on another thread, it looked like they really grew a set of balls. It was great to see. What I wonder, anybody have any idea why the huge and noticeable change all of a sudden?

First off, the defense played really, really well. Best game I've seen them play since 2002, at least based on the quality of competition.

Second, they got all the breaks. Utah shot themselves in the foot with penalties and two special teams blunders that led directly to 14 points. ND played well but Utah lent them a big helping hand. It seems like everyone, including then 1-9 Syracuse in 2007, has played perfectly against ND in the last five or six years. I can't remember the last time that ND didn't suffer the preponderance of penalties and critical mistakes in a game against an evenly matched or superior opponent.

I am happy Notre Dame won today so it should help some recruits to see what they are made of. With everything's going on in the last several weeks, today is the exactly what they needed. I hope they keep on winning next week against Army. If Notre Dame wins against Army and hopefully USC then the recruits will start thinking we are for real.

Positives:
Tommy Rees: Played well and most importantly made ZERO mistakes

Defense: Best game they played in years, Te'o, Gray, Blanton, Brian, and Shembo had huge plays

O-line: Dominated as the game went on opening up the ground game

Seniors: nice to see them smile after the game, well deserved

The Bad:
Nothing

Fuk off and at least let us enjoy the night without p*ssing on our parade ....ffs...

Easy there, killer. In case you haven't noticed, some people on this board think we are "back", simply because we dominate Our Sisters of the Poor.

First, I am still salivating at the great win. It was nice because it was a win with all fronts.

Does anyone know if Darius Flemming was hurt??? I do not remeber seeing him.

Congrats to every senior on the team. Now, guys go win at Army. How nice would it be to leave ND with two bowl wins.

Go IRISH!!!!

Dude....Are you really that miserable a b.astard that you can't enjoy a win against a top 15 team for once? This felt so good. I felt like we belonged. Do us all a favor and take your "Utah's stats were not overly Impressive" A.ss somewhere else until tomorrow. We're here to celebrate. Go to bed.

back to the name calling again, eh? Stay classy, HCTI. All I said was that we don't know if this was a true maturation, or simply a result of playing an overrated team. I never said that we were lucky, that Utah sucks, or that this win wasn't a big one. Pardon me for being honest. On second thought, don't pardon me. You're a class-A pr*ck who can't stand anyone saying anything even remotely neutral. It has to be positive, bed of roses stuff, or you get p*ssy. Do us all a favor and and take a couple hundred Xanax and wash them down with a gallon whiskey.

probly shouldnt get into this but....i believe that on this thread, as on Kelly's team, there is a 24 hour "celebration period" where we celebrate our success, on monday morning, o even sunday evening if you want to talk about the problems from the game, feel free. Right now im just happy we beat a ranked team for the first time in 4 years.

It's my f*in thread. I'll make any observation that I want. Let's not overlook that my FIRST observation was that this was a great win. I don't know, maybe it's a generational thing. I'm not exactly that old, at 42. But, back in the day, one of the things that made ND fans "different" from all of those other cookie cutter fans, was that we were willing to say "Great win, but I'm concerned about.........." . I'm not sure how old some of the "delusionally hopeful" fans on here are, so maybe I am just turning into the old guy who sits on his porch and yells at the neighborhood kids to quit running across his lawn.

This is true, but Mayock said during the game the Flemming was coming into the game gimpy and shembo would see more time.

Seconded.

However, I really think Harrison has had a very good year over all. If stays for a 5th year and actually has the chance to play for 2 years in a row at the same position, he could be a VERY good safety for us.

So glad for B. Smith and Duval. Way to go out winners at home.

This was a great win for the program. Prior to this game our best "win" was a loss to USC. Utah may be overrated but they will finish 10-2 and hopefully win a bowl game and I can't remember the last time we beat a team that can say that.

I am really happy for Duval Kamara. Kid comes out as a freshman and does some great things and then disappears for three years. On senior day he gets to score two TD's and I am very happy for the local kid from Hoboken, NJ.

We played well in every aspect of the game today. It is the first game this year we can say that. Did Utah help us out...yes, but we took advantage of those situations and put points on the board.

I for one am going to enjoy this victory and drink the Irish cool aid, because this has been a ****y year and a ****y decade. Today is a good day! If we beat Army, we are moving in the right direction and Coach Kelly will get those important practices back. If we lose to Army, this game doesn;t mean ****.

It's a great day to be Irish!

In my opinion, Diaco haters can STFU. What I learned today is that this team is trending in the right direction on defense. They are markedly better than last year and have been improving each week since Stanford with the exception of a befuddling Navy game.

Rest assured, this team is headed in the right direction. If only we could stay healthy...

Besides the fact that we just beat a solid Utah team, this had to have some kind of affect on possible recruits especially the ones there for the game. I can't wait to see if we get any good news

Speaking of seniors, I loved when Robert Hughes came in and just punched Utah in the mouth with a couple of bruising runs.

I'd just like to point out that I unveiled my "good Karma with Kamara" slogan before the game.

But I agree, a lot of guys who have taken a lot of criticism played very well today. I would add Cierre Wood and Hughes to that list as well.

Over on the Rivals board it is being reported that there was a surprise visitor at the game today. Christian French is done for the season because they lost their last game. I'm not saying it's him, but I'm just saying...

That was a defensive show today. I think we get French and Williams.

I wasn't sure we would get anyone else after back-stabber left, but now I'm very confident that we'll round out this class with some big names.

Said it before and I will say it again...I really like Coach Diaco and the system he runs. I'm not a big 3-4 guy...I prefer the 4-3...but Diaco is a much better coach than Brown was and even the Artist Formerly Known as Tenuta. Defense had a great game plan in place and executed, Rees looks very solid (especially for a freshman), and more importantly you can see him growing into the position. I think the sky's the limit for the kid if he keeps working at it. We finally managed a decent run game, even though I think we use Gray and Hughes way too little. I like the faster, smaller backs (especially in the Spread offense) as much as the next guy, but Gray and Hughes tore it up in there and are a load to bring down.

Really wondering what Aaron is thinking today, after his former school beats up on a ranked team, then visiting the swamp seeing his Gators get their a.sses whooped. Perhaps some second thoughts?
