I agree...what is the hold up filling out this staff? Are we just waiting until after signing day too anounce or do we really not know? We have the cash to throw at the best so lets get him here whoever that may be!!!

Personally I'm excited as hell. I think it is a great hire. I'm not sure how much Grad assistants are used in recruiting but I think/hope that he will be an effective tool in the recruiting process. I mean what if Bryant Freaking Young showed up in your house?? ha ha. All jokes aside I'm looking forward to Bryant's career here at ND.

Rumor has it that Weis has a D-Line coach from a BCS school on board and that coach has asked to keep it under wraps until after signing day so as to not screw up the recruiting for his former school - I have no idea who it could be at this point

grad assistants are not allowed to go on recruiting visits. I am sure they are resourceful once a recruit is on campus though.

Thanks Mooney, I was wondering if he would be involved in in home visits or anything. But I'd say your right about after the recruit gets on campus.

I know if I was a defensive lineman especially in California or Chicago I would think I would check ND out because of Bryant Young.

Wow. That makes things very interesting indeed. Greg Mattison back in South Bend maybe???? How funky would that be?

If I were being recruited by a defensive co-ordinator and he left the school I was planning to attend "after" signing day, I would be pissed. That really makes no sense to me. Keep it under wraps? I am not sure who it could be but he must be a sneaky little bastrich.

My quick count is ..... 3. With one "maybe".

And some discussers. (They disconnected from cussers.... Use only proper language...)

I like Bryant Young. He should have plenty to bring to the table. He had a brilliant playing career and overcame severe injuries to return at a high level. He seems like a great hire right now.

mattison is now the defensive coordinator of the baltimore ravens...and i imagine he won't be welcome in south bend as long as Weis is still here

This is huge for us. He is really a guy that a lot of our recruits grew up watching...He was one of the best DT's of all time. He will bring great playing experience to our staff...I heard he is going to be groomed to be our next D-line coach..

If you were a young defensive lineman and you knew you were going to learn from a coach who had an outstanding professional career, wouldn't you be excited? This is just the kind of addition to the staff that should give a much needed boost to defensive line recruiting as well as improved performance on the field!
