not sure but i am pretty sure they can go on continuation when a incomplete or fumble play goes to review. the receiver should have kept after the ball.

maybe so...I had always been told when the whistle blows..thats it...no continuation...otherwise people would come flying in and cause injuries when the refs really meant for the play to be dead...thats asking alot of the players...I mean was that an almost whistle, or the real thing??? Anyway, I don't doubt your thoughts as much as the lack of consistancy a continuation introduces...

Tonight was not different than any other game in the CW era. The following all happened:

1. No running game by ND. first sign of touble, here comes the 4 WR sets.
2. Defense knew what was coming and still was gashed.
3. Secondary again makes an average QB and WR look like Montana/Rice
4. Special teams by ND was crap (Tate's return was Tate not blocking by return team)
5. Penalties, Penalties, and more Penalties.
6. Poor tackling by defense. This has plagued our defense the entire CW era

All of these problems have been with ND since day 1 of CW's tenure. It yet again shows that CW doesn't work on fundamentals on either side of the ball in practice. He refuses to coach these players like college kids. He thinks they all are NFL caliber players and they are not.

I for one am happy that CW only has 2 more games. He's a good man, but an awful head coach.

1. We ran the ball damn well when it was a close game. When you need 3 scores in the final quarter, you have to throw the ball.
2. Seeing as you were on the field with the D, I just gotta go with your call on this one.
3. The DBs did pretty good tonight... that 6'6 boy just made some fantastic freaking catches.
4. Agree. But there were a couple key blocks that sprangs Tate.
5. Yup.
6. D is handled by Tenuta and Brown... I'll blame Weis a bit, but not near as much as Tenuta and Brown.

Post Game Reaction: We need better coaches. We're really starting to get in high quality talent...but that means much less without quality coaching, schemes, game plans, adjustments and leadership. We need a complete coaching staff overhaul from the top to the bottom.

Ah geez dre1919, you da man, and maybe I'm the idiot holdout, and I made a fool of myself in public again today at the missed PAT when I said "golly" really loudly and drew attention to my red nose, but I think ND is ONE YEAR AWAY. Sorry to offend anyone at an angry time, but I was not under false pretenses when the season started. I thought it would be a tough season.

1. If ND was running the ball well, the score wouldn't have been so one sided until the last half of the 4th quarter.

2. I never claimed to be on the field. It was pretty obvious that the freshman RB was going to be coming right at us. Don't be silly.

5. The defense is handled by Brown and Tenuta and that is the problem. The HC is the guy that is in charge of the coaching staff and it's pretty obvious the defense has been a mess under the two headed coordinater. That falls to CW no ifs, ands or buts. A HC has to have the ability to manage an entire team, not just a passing offense. The defense has been a weak spot every season under CW.

My question, after losing last week and knowing your seat is hot, how do you come out and lay an egg on offense? When put in a corner most people will fight to get out. Oh well. I'm glad the team didn't quit and almost pulled it off, but seriously, how can such a "potent" offense come out flat after last week when they came out flat?

he refuses to coach these players period. He needs to get out of his sideline lawn chair and actually coach

our passing game is good once we are down by 14 or more points. but until a running game is established this offense is not potent.

Maybe Pitt has a good team. And ND is not quite there yet. And injuries with no depth have taken a toll. I don't know.

I'm not happy either.

Yeah... because not a single player under him has gotten better. That was just a dumb statement to make man.

How is that dumb? Explain to me how sitting in a chair on the sideline is good coaching. In my opinion the good coaches are in the thick of it watching the plays closely. Not sitting in a chair on the sideline and then only getting up to go talk to Jimmy

And how has ND really improved. I haven't seen much improvent really. I've seen Jimmy get better Weis probably helped with that. But I don't think weis taught golden how to jump, Floyd how to catch, or Armando how to break a tackle

I think Pitt is good. It'll be interesting to see how they do in the coming weeks. I think ND is a good team, but not a really good team. It just burns me because we have great talent. Just what those kids can do in the 4th quarter is amazing. We'll see what goes down. Either way I will root for ND. That is certain.

Did you get Bambi by Felix Salten yet?

He taught Golden how to catch... how to run a route, how to break on a ball...

I could go on. To say that he has done NOTHING and that this team has NOT improved since the Daveyham Era... is just a crazy, nonsensical thing to say.

Wavedomer, I looked it up as soon as you told me, then posted "Bambi" videos on the NeuteredDoomer thread regarding Bambi. Yours and TMQ10"s fault.

Bastage.

...

Average QB?

Stull is ranked as the #5 QB in the nation with a QB Eff of 161.6.

Average RB?

Lewis is the #7 RB in the nation averaging 126.6 yds/game and widely compared to Tony Dorsett.

"look like Montana"???

You never saw Joe play college ball, did you?

Montana threw 25 TDs and 25 INTs for a 1:1 Ratio

Stull has thrown 28 TDs and 14 INTs for 2:1 Ratio.

Stull twice placed the ball where only his 6'-5" WR could get his hands on the ball. Despite being covered well both times, Baldwin used his large height advantage to leap high for one pass and stretch out in the end zone for another.

And - Rudolph's absence hurt.

i wish i didnt,but i completely disagree with u.
a player who isn't utilized like they should be does not affect the outcome. i wish it wasnt the case, but weis hasn't utilized rudolph at ALL this year. i dont know why...it makes no sense.he adds an extra dimension to an offense, yet he isnt used.
it sucks for rudolph, because his stats are down so much that he gets no recognition from anyone.

Punter's Wanted!

Punter's Wanted!

I read through 10 pages of comments and didn't see one addressing our punting. I have NEVER seen such atrocious punting in my football watching life! Can scholarships be taken away? I couldn't wait to see Turk replaced but now I know why he played 2 games in a row.

Other thoughts:

- Running game showed promise but as usual Charlies's impatience and infatuation with
passing game lead to a premature departure from a commitment to it.
- Our D played as good or better than most of their other games (shitty).
- YEs we got screwed by the refs but we still got outplayed
- Pitt owned as on both line of scrimages. That team deserves to win.
- More dropped perfect passes from JC. Only GT was solid as a rock
- The OL couldn't protect JC during 3-4 man rushses
- Charlie knew Pitt has a tenacious pass rush and didn;t game plan to deal with it. Roll the pocket, play action, two step drops, quick slants etc. WTF!
- JC didn't do his best job feeling the rush and stepping up inthe pocket (like the last play).
- The playcalling was not good. Every game this year had better playcalling than this one and many of those were questionable. This offense has been living off of GT big plays.
- Pitt didn't make mistakes and ND did.
- HEy we got a touchback today on a kickoff!
- tackling was suspect.....again

I don't think any of our guys are giving up on playing hard but they are being poorly coached and not being put in positions to be successful. Our offense lack imagination, our defense is just bad and our special teams are even worse this year. I'm just wondering if any of the current coaches will be asked ot stay on next year when a new coach comes along. I like Charlie but I want a winner in here.

The fumble at end didn't appear to be a fumble but I doubt if that would have mattered. Our tackles were allowing the pocket to collapse on almost every play on that last ND drive.

As for the chop block....I thought it was a good call. When the defensive player is engaged with another blocker, and he was...then you just can't go at the guy's knee.

speaking of that...how difficult is it to block 3 guys with 5 guys?
that last drive they rushed no more than 3,and clausen still had absolutely no time.
now,our defense has been terrible all year, but our offensive line has been just as bad.
if it's not terrible blocking,it's a dumbass personal foul by olsen or young,or a moronic play by wenger.everytime we do anything successful on offense it is called back by our f'ing offensive line.it's sickening.

this team has had no discipline all year.that falls on the coach.no matter how u slice it.
bye bye charlie. im sure our next head coach will appreciate u keeping his seat nice and warm for him.

Turk was replaced by Maust last week. Turk replaced Maust earlier in the season.

There are 3 threads dealing with the coaches status. Take that conversation over to one of them:

Fire Weis (Merged - Stop Creating New Threads)

Reasons to Keep/Fire Weis

Fire Tenuta

Kinda agree with the BeatSC post. Special teams were as atrocious as they have been during the CW tenure, except for the Golden return.

But golly, I hate to type this out loud, but one more year.

Got it.

Was being sarcastic about the punting. As I was watching Turk under achieve I was dying to have Maust brought back. Now I know why they kept him out. I think CW has ruined both of thier confidence. I also think the 3 man protection is cramping them and yes I know we spent alot of time discussing that a month ago.

slow down champ.

if you think Stull is the 5th best QB in the land, i'll just agree to disagree with you. he made a few good passes, but he's not great by any means. he is the result of a very good running game. NFL isn't in his future.

i don't recall saying their RB was average. you may have me confused with somebody else there. the guy gashed our defense as he's been gashing people all year. we should have had a better gameplan to contain him. that would have made it tougher for their pass to work.

i was 2 years old when joe played college ball. i was referring to the joe that won a gazillion super bowl rings...

what do you think CW can do with one more year?

-have yet another late season breakdown?
-field a mess of a defense?
-throw the ball all over the place because we are behind every game?
-as you stated have horrible special teams yet again?
-to lose to USC yet again?
-lack a running game yet again?

i have yet to see a reason to keep him around.

i just don't see how a .583 winning percentage deserves another year. if we were Purdue that may be acceptable, but not in South Bend.

Quick TV watch with no replay seemed to show cramping every time.

Coaching issue. Fix it.
