Isn't that what you do with a defensive tackle built line a hairy rhinoceros? Drop him into coverage?
Cause BVG is an idiot. Trumbetti was dropping in deep coverage a number of times vs LSU too. He makes his defense too fucking confusing and stupid, which is why guys like Redfield and Nyles Morgan struggle to play even though they're freak athletes.

I can only imagine if Ishaq was cleared. He may have ended up the starting safety.

Well it's one thing to lead from the sidelines, and another to lead from the huddle. I'm not saying he can't be there to help but it's different coming from a guy on the field.

Well, as long as he's not dead, we certainly maybe will find out. It's not "we'll never know" until he either runs out of eligibility or dies.

I saw at least 3 plays tonight where Redfield tried to shoulder tackle a guy and completely whiffed. He's obviously more worried about getting on the highlight shows for a big hit, than in being an outstanding football player. Maybe THAT is why he struggles?

My Observations:

1. Prosise gets game ball. He ran with purpose today. Even the short runs were 5-7 yard gains where it looked like he would be stopped at the line of scrimmage.
2. Secondary was awful. I can't fathom how that QB threw so many lollipops up for grabs that somehow found a receiver. Let alone all the blown coverage. How is a LB covering their #1 receiver?
3. Many posts complaining on not getting short yardage plays. On 4th and 1, we need to be under center. No questions asked. Also, on two of those plays, I put it on the QB. All players sold out to the RB on the read option and the QB still gave him the ball. I would like to see the QB keep the ball and sprint to the outside and create an option of run/pass.
4. I actually cheered at first on Yoon's miss. Thought it was dead center. Bad angle for the viewer as well.
5 I am fearing our QBs are locking on to Fuller. Yes, he caught some big TD's today but we also forced some to him that weren't there.
6. As much as the Kizer pass to Fuller was the game winner, the pass to Prosise while scrambling was just as big. I think if Prosise just turns up field instead of thinking to get out of bounds, he had a much bigger gain.

7. Its a WIN. Plain and Simple.

So I guess people have no faith in Kizer and is throwing the season away?

In a zone blitz scheme, yes. I'm not saying that that is what the play call was; but in a zone blitz, you usually drop a DE not into coverage, but into a throwing lane so that the QB can not just throw a rope past the blitzer, to the area the blitzer just vacated.

Many teams, especially ND need to watch how Oregon runs WR screens, every throw is in front of the receiver and he is running before he catches it... That's how it's done.

Apparently we watch how they line up on extra points but not the important things...

I wouldn't panic yet guys. Although Malik done for the season is a huge blow there is still room to breathe.

1. Deshone is no slouch. Big 4 star recruit that can move and proved that he has a strong arm. I think with an experienced O-line this will favor having a young but talented QB - just like 2012 team with Golson.

2. BVG is running a way to complex defense and it seems to be wasting the talent we have on Defense. 4-5 * up and down the board and we give up 400+ to virginia. I'm no defensive guru but I feel like I could have the same outcome as the DC running a space 5-2 with this talent! There is no containment whatsoever, coverage looks jumbled and lost. How many times did Johns throw off his back foot? And no picks?! Something is not right there.

3. Regardless of how close that game was the Offense still put up nearly 500 yards and did what they needed to do. UVA killed us in Time of Possession and really kept our offense off the field. Prosise looks promising and I still think we can run on anybody.

4. I still believe a 10-2 or 11-1 season is possible due to pure talent and potential. GT may come out soft next week after playing 2 cupcakes, but we will really see how good we are next week. Only thing that would completely destroy the hopes for this season would be either Kizer or Prosise going down. I hate to be the Kool Aid dispenser here but a win is a win and we are 2-0.

5. Also I think we need to give credit to Virginia. They are a lot better than people think, or expect them to be. I watched a lot of their game against UCLA and they were moving the ball, just couldn't get it in the end zone (similar to ND this year in both games 1st Quarters). They put up 350 yards on UCLA and controlled the clock like crazy.

Rocket is my favorite of all time...Fuller might be 2. DeShone will find him open...and he'll find others. Offense is certainly different now though.

Defense played like shit.

* Zaire was not playing well before he was injured, but he's still a catastrophic loss.

* Prosise's 155 yards I believe is the highest single game total in several years. Could be way wrong on that.

* Fuller was excellent, per usual.

* Where has Corey Robinson been since like mid-season last year? He hasn't had a game with more than 3 catches since FSU.

* We need more production from the TE position.

* OL did not have a great day. Was hoping for a more inspired effort, like the last two games.

* Pass rush is about as ineffective as I feared.

* Jaylon is great.

* Worst game by our secondary in a long time. Every DB looked like Gary Gray.

* Tough miss for Yoon, but I'm still high on him. He's a true frosh, for God's sake.

* CJ Sanders had a good day at PR. Had a couple nice returns. I'd like to see him get some touches on offense.

In gary gray's defense he could play the run just as well as anybody in the country. I bet no one was more happy about that TD pass than Yoon. Can you imagine the nerves? True Freshman!

Deshone can chuck it, I think. It is his show now...so I hope so. He has a great line and plenty of targets working in his favor.

Doesn't he have a cast on his hand? Could be part of his problem.

I'm willing to give the defense a bit of a pass solely on the radio announcers saying that none of what Virginia ran today was on tape from the UCLA game. Anyone who has coached knows how difficult that can be. Hell, remember Navy 2010? Couple that with how everything seemed to go Virginia's way offensively (ie throwing off one's back foot with pressure in your face...for a first down), and I'm not ready to give up on BVG or this defense at all.

Unfortunately, with Georgia Tech and UMASS coming up, we won't know how good this defense is until Southern Cal.

Going forward, if Kelly can win with Rees and an inferior running game and receiver corp, he can win with Kizer. I am still hopeful fro ten wins. Maybe it takes the bowl game to get there, fine. Just don't let me endure another 8- or 9-win season haha

Lastly, remember the Purdue game in 2012? The Irish has just stomped a team 50-10 and need then beat Purdue by 3 freakin' points. IE was on fire then too. But that team went 12-1. Football is hard, just ask Auburn or Arkansas.

The stars bailed us out today. That's what they're supposed to do.

Stop blitzing Schmidt. He's always late.

Imo, we should take amir off of kickoff return. He does nothing back there.

I'm so sick of injuries.

But he kept diving with his head down and leading with his head or shoulder. Never put his arm out to wrap the guy when he made contact. It was pathetic. At least then if he didn't land the blow he could've made the tackle.

At one point even the announcer mentioned about how bad it was. That he was begging for a serious injury.

I agree. Give Sanders a shot back there.

One thing I failed to mention....2 obvious pick plays that were not called by officials. I think BK needs to submit these to the ACC and ask for clarification since the same calls lost the FSU game last year. And make it public that he did it and make the response public as well.

I think you might just see that. One of the scary things about having a freshman return kicks, is that you are never quite sure if he can hold on to the ball when he gets blasted. And at this level, he WILL get blasted at some point. Sanders took a pretty big hit on one PR today, and held on to the ball. I think that will give the coaches more confidence in him.

- CJ Prosise gets the game ball.

- DBs overall were bad, but KVR was really bad. He looks slow and is getting beat on routes.

- Joe Schmidt is a slightly below average MLB. That said, BVG needs to be smart enough to not waste him blitzing. If you're just going to send him in to get blocked and not disrupt anything, put someone in to blitz who can make a play, like Nylse Fn Morgan.

- Fuller was frustrating with his hands, but saved the day.

- Fuck injuries.

- OL looked like 2014 OL, but with poorer pass protection.

- Play calling made me puke twice.

- Good day getting pressure for the DL, but stopping the run was just Ok.

- I trust Yoon. I know he missed, but he seems accurate. Has to kick with more power and worry less about aiming.

- 2-0!

Agree about Schmidt. Good kid and story but he just isn't very good right now. I know he sets the defense but once the ball is snapped he isn't much help vs the run or pass.

We will find out the impact of that last drive for Kizer. I hope it gives him confidence. He's a big strong kid with a rocket arm. We know we can run the ball. I would expect teams to try to load up and test Kizer to throw the ball. Let's see what Sanfords got. I have no doubt he can have him ready and come up with a great game plan.
I hated the feeling of scoring 3 times and dominating but only being up 12-0. I really hope BVG can begin to get the defense right. There are some athletes out there and a few on the bench that can play football. Let them do it. Stop with the exotic schemes and put your athletes in position to make plays.
I'm not giving up on this season. I have a strange feeling Kizer is going to do big things. He has 3 less starts than Zaire, so I expect some growing pains. But he showed me something today.

Why is Day dropped in to coverage so much? There wasn't one play that it seemed successful on. And on the 3rd and long they converted, we rushed 3. One of which looked to be Jaylon. Arguably the best LB in the country, rushing the QB in that position?

The sack and fumble caused by Keivare Russell........Day dropped into zone coverage.

We haven't ever done this in the BK era, no reason to expect it now.

I hope you aren't justifying a handful of costly plays with one successful one. I would gladly give that fumble back if I could have back all the positive plays they got when Day was dropped in to coverage.
