Any chance they had special "Shamrock Series" game balls made up for this game? Improperly broken-in footballs could explain some of the ball security issues.

Though being in Boston, TFB was probably screwing with the PSI.

Interesting theory here. Would be interested to know the answer myself

I think the lighting and the glare and the different angles that the lights were at than players are used to had a lot to do with the drops. Every punt was an adventure and each team lost easy, open catches when the ball was thrown high. I think the Fenway Park lighting had something to do with this.

Damn I turned the game off last night, found out today ND lost KVR and CJ again. When I step back and think about my harsh criticism of ND this morning, it might be a little unjustified. Its really incredible that ND is 10-1 with a chance to make the playoffs considering the insane amount of injures. I just wish ND would stop playing down to it's level of competition.

I disagree. Fumbles were at least as big of a problem as drops, and very few of the drops were on high, arching balls. Punts are the only thing that would point to lights, and lights don't explain the other issues. If a tiny white baseball is catchable in the lights, a football is too.

My post game observations:

1) Name me a 10 win college football team with their starting QB, RB, TE, NT, all being injured after game 2 and multiple injuries throughout the year.

2) Nice to see Prosise and Fuller get over 1,000 yards. Hey Fuller hold onto the damn ball and gave a great bounce back game against Stanford.

3) If Kizer plays like he did against Virginia, Clemson & USC we win against Stanford. If he plays like he did the past 2 weeks we lose.

4) Nice to see a pair of seniors step up when needed in Chris Brown and Amir Carlisle.

5) Kelly, Sanford, or Denbrock need to get Aliz'e Jones more involved in the offense.

6) Dexter Williams and whoever replaces Keivarae Russell needs to have a good week of practice in preparation for Stanford.

7) Thank You to both OSU's for flopping yesterday, Urban Meyer after the game: priceless.

8) Nice to see Navy keep on rolling and Temple win.

9) Jaylon Smith HAS NOT played his last Shamrock Series game.

10) ND remains a playoff team come Tuesday's results.

My game ball: Chris Brown for the winning touchdown and taking away another turnover that could've cost us the game.

Go Irish!

I think it's a little of all of the above. Catching any ball in lights is an art, and you'll see pro ball players mess it up from time to time. And they have the benefit of not having to worry about a dback keeping them from making the catch..

I will say I'm not a huge fan of these gimmick games. Cool to play in Fenway, but I'd rather our boys play in an environment they're used to and simplify the equation.

I haven't read any other posts, but here's my two cents worth. It appears to me that this team was just going through the motions the last two games, particularly the offense. Fuller's many drops, Sanders goofs, Prosise's fumbles and Kizer's lack of focus were obvious signs to me.

Having said that, I think the game they were going through the motions to get to is finally here. I expect to see a focused team on a mission when they get to Palo Alto. Given OSU and OSU lost and several others struggled, let's hope the committee still likes us.

Brown was a stone cold stud on that play. Could have easily been another INT. I know people have been down on Breezy over the years, but always one of my favorite players. Unselfish kid.

I agree, but there was a huge snowstorm in SB yesterday, so it was probably better to play it elsewhere. Maybe the rule should be that the games need to not be a quick bus ride for them and a plane ride for us.

I'm fine with the scheduling because we still have six home games. It's not like the Shamrock Series makes the scheduling 5-6-1.

Everyone keeps mentioning that Brown bailed Kizer out on the the TD throw. I disagree I think Kizer put it exactly where it needed to be for Brown to high point the ball.

Yeah, but I'm saying I'd rather play on an opponent's field than on a gimmicky set-up in a baseball field. There was a pass to Alize in the first quarter that he might have been able to lay out for in the back of the end-zone except the rail was like a yard off the back. I don't mind neutral field games, I just want them to be on football fields.

We lost the turnover battle by 4.

Even with all the injuries. If Notre Dame ties or wins the turnover battle next week they win!

If we do that, we will lose and badly, if we tie the TO battle that is. We need a totally clean game, period.

Rough weekend for me. Just now getting around to digesting that hideous game.

BC's defense is legit. Everyone knew it was. I was pretty impressed with how easily ND moved the ball on them between the 20s. (Heard this story before, unfortunately. Red zone offense...ugh.) BC's guys reminded me of how the Bears used to play where guys like Peanut used to go for the ball while others tackled. He'd punch and strip the ball a million times per game. I haven't watched BC play this year outside of this game, so I'm not sure if this was a common theme with other opponents. But if so, the coaches should've really hammered the guys on 'not trying to do too much' and protect the ball at all costs. There's a serious lack of focus when the entire team (it seemed like) had ball security issues. Credit the defense (outside of that horrendous break down that lead to the TD) for holding BC low enough for an ugly ND offense to win.

Who's BC's defensive coordinator? Lets hire that guy.

On the injury front: Holy fucking shit, when does it end?

Stanford: Iis it out of the question to have Jaylon spy Christian McCaffrey? I'm not hip to breaking down schemes and how to hold a guy like McCaffrey in check. But if he does what he's been doing, ND is in for a long day.

One more game. Win and then have some time to heal up before the Playoffs.

Not sure if it will be Jaylon, but I have to believe the D game plan will be focused an taking McCaffrey out of the game as much as possible.

Lack luster performance, but these are the games that I have come accustom to losing over the past decade.

We will need some help to stay in the playoff mix, but aside from Clemson/Iowa, I actually don't feel confident about any other team we would face in a playoff. Sucks to think like this, and I pray I am wrong, but doesn't seem realistic, for me at least.

At the beginning of the season I would have been ecstatic for 10 wins, at it has come. Everything else at this point is a bonus. Coach Kelly has done such a tremendous job with this team, and deserves to be credited as such. There are certainly things that we can all question as fans, but you CANNOT take away what he has delivered with this team. He can't even fill the travel limit with players! Here's to hoping he sticks around for AS LONG AS HE WANTS!

The only thing I hate is that I know all the haters out there are gonna go nuts if we lose to Stanford, but true Irish fans should know that this season was something special.

Geez, it sounds like I just wrote a ND Football 2015 obituary... Screw it, bring on the Trees!

Hell yes Brown bailed him out. Roughly 6-7 catches the wide receivers. Made great effort to catch the ball and if it was for that effort they would have been incomplete.

This game, although most games this year, the Irish miss having a sure-handed, good blocking Tight End. The 4-6 yard dump to the TE has been missed terribly this year. In this game, it would have helped, as it would have in many others this year.

Stanford: Iis it out of the question to have Jaylon spy Christian McCaffrey? I'm not hip to breaking down schemes and how to hold a guy like McCaffrey in check. But if he does what he's been doing, ND is in for a long day.

The problem is that you don't usually spy a running back. If you do, then the offense can take your spy out of position by simply lining the guy up in a specific spot. If you choose to maintain position, then you have lost your spy. I anticipate that ND will bring an extra guy or two into the box, to try to get numbers in the running game to neutralize McCaffrey.

Having said that, I am sure that every other Stanford opponent this season has done the same thing. So what will make us successful where others have failed? I don't know that we will be. I think this is going to be a game that our offense has to win for us. I think we are going to be in trouble if we don't score on a majority of our drives. The defense that holds its opponent to no points on more than 2 drives just might be the one that wins the game.

These two teams are pretty even matched, overall, in scoring. ND scores 35 pts/game and gives up 21pts/game. Stanford scores 37 pts/game and gives up 22 pts/game. If I am ND's offensive coaches, I am looking for ways to keep the chains moving while chewing clock. Limit Stanford's possessions, so that your defense can put everything into one or two less "stands". Hopefully we have been saving a bunch of ball control stuff for this game.
