On a positive note, this is exactly how I want to see a Notre Dame athlete handle themselves after a loss: head up, accepting responsibility, not blaming teammates, honest.

On a negative note 'I got hit in the side of the head, felt a little dizzy and couldn't see out of my right eye" is one thing: a concussion. I had a buddy I played hockey with in college, we used to jokingly call him "scramby" because he'd had so many concussions his brains were like scrambled eggs. He had to quit his junior year; 3 years after hanging up his skates he still will have weeks at a time when he's dizzy, easily confused, nauseous and gets headaches. It only gets worse from there.

Today was an intense, emotional game. We needed Crist. The kid's a stud. But it was a game. I could give a flying f**k about the play-calling, playing a player if there's even a possibility that he could be concussed is reckless.

It may very well have been a concussion. How else do you explain throwing the ball out of the endzone with no time on the clock at the end? (sarcasm) Seriously though I think Crist will be OK.

That was my first thought as well, IIS....and then my buddy watching with me said that something like a migraine would do the same thing. Too early to tell I guess.

I think you might have been spoiled by our last two qb's....They had pretty damn good touch in the back of the endzone. :) Dayne's a work in progress, but damn can he move the ball when he needs to. wow

Yeah, I guess I'm putting Crist on too high a pedestal after starting only two games. I did love his bomb to Rudolph.

Getting whacked "upalongsidethehead" is a potent trigger for a migraine HA. Symptoms were classical for a migraine; a concussion could give the same symptoms however.
The differential diagnosis also includes a few other things.
We have to trust that the medical staff made the correct choice and allowed his return. (I am a MD)

Is it just me or are there way more concussions this year than ever before? Maybe new helmet problems? Any other opinions?

I think there have always been this many concussions, it's just today they are better diagnosed.

I get migraine's and it is a bitch. You become very sensitive ti light and depending on the severuity all you see are blurs. I am hoping it was a migraine because concussions are no joke. I do not want to think that Kelly is the type of coach who would put in a player with a concussion justt to win 1 game.

I actually thought the signs pointed at it not being a concussion.

I've had 2 in my lacrosse playing days... and it is really easy to tell when someone has a concussion with all of the baseline test comparison and such that the trainers and doctors have at their disposal. And there is a ZERO percent chance that any football player would be allowed back on the field if the medical staff thought there was a chance he had a concussion.

As a long time Cubs fan, I wouldn't help the Mets for any reason.
Go Cubs Go!

As a long time Cubs fan you should empathize with the false hope a baseball team can bring year after year, only to crush your hopes come October. Of course I actually saw the Mets win it all once (albeit 24 years ago when I was a young pup), so maybe you are right. If anyone deserves a WS it would be the Cubs fans for suffering 102 years.

I would say please give the Indians fans something to cheer for. For the love of God, i just want to go to one parade in the streets of Cleveland. At this point, I would take an indoor soccer championship (and I hate soccer).

I gotta ask...since I can't pull up the interview right now...when did the injury occur exactly?

I have heard early in the drive, the play before the touchdown, and the QB sneak. Also, I have heard his face it the facemask and was slightly swollen and I heard he got a finger in his eye.

Does anyone really know what happened when? (Once again I apologize if its in this interview, but I can't bring it up right now at work)

I have taken two blows to the eye/side of the head. (Which is probably why I should not be allowed to post; just kidding!) I think the poster was right when he said that tests were performed that would have ruled out a concussion. That makes absolute sense based upon Crist’s importance and the way Wenger is being handled.

My feeling is that the same thing that happened to Dayne on Saturday, that happened to me. When your vision changes in one eye, the first thing to go is depth perception. I have had my vision go blurry, and I have had darkening (lack of light acuity, for lack of a better term) and I have had total temporary blindness in my right eye. When my vision came back, I ran into things for about two days. It took me a while to get used to things.

I thought that was the reason Dayne threw so poorly on the final throw. My respect for him has increased tremendously, as he did not use that or any other excuse.

All reports are that it happened on the twenty-yard gain just before the sneak. And that it occurred because of the side of his helmet hitting the ground.

And if you watch the game film, there is a point that you can see swelling and an irregularity to the size and shape of his eye, while he is standing on the sideline.

Like was said before, if it was a concussion, the med staff wouldn't of let him anywhere near the field, everyone is being very cautious w/ head injuries these days....as well they should be.
