I'm not listing ANY negatives. We all know what they are. I am on the otherhand VERY positive about this game though. If Crist stayed in the game we would have won this game easily I think. Oh well, shoulda woulda coulda. On to state.

BTW, what happened to Neuteredoomer? Why did he get banned?

Lots of positives and negatives from this one...

I'll save everytone some time...

--Positive--
This team is ripe... they are really close... much closer than the National Media will give credit for... period. The improvment across the board is nice to see... FINALLY.

--Negative--
We just lost to a Michigan team for the second straight year that UNIT FOR UNIT on through both sides of the ball is inferior to us in every single way... and in doing so we gave up any chance of having the season we need to, to get back into the big boy circle... could care less what anyone thinks about that... you don't lose to Michigan at home and suddenly turn it around to have a good season if you're Notre Dame... 6-6 is more probable than 10 wins now... improvement or not.

- Darrin Walls was bad

I thought he played well.

I HATE the idea of not matching our personal to theirs. We're putting one corner out against three wide receivers...problems inevitably occur.

I think Kelly did a poor job preparing for the Dayne gets hurt scenario. It took almost the entire first quarter for him to choose a QB and then choose a system to use with that QB. You've got to know what your kids can do before you show up to the stadium.

Positives, defense showed when against a regular QB (unlike DR) they will be potent, Rudolph showed his colors, Special teams keeps improving

Negatives, offense couldnt punch it in no matter how many stops the D made, DR went crazy (but showed he is a serious contender) WE NEED CRIST,

Outlook, its ok, dont start calling for Kelly's head now, this IS a rebuilding year with a new coach, there will be loses, we proved we can come back from a deficet, we wont be playing any more DRs this season, i still think 8-4 is attainable

Positives:

- Carlo Calabrese -- Agree
- Hard running by Armando Allen -- Agree
- RUDOLPH! -- Agree
- Great pass protection for Dayne Crist -- So, so in my opinion, He moves around in the pocket well, though.
- Te'o -- Better than last game

Negatives:

- That damn defense -- Disagree, they were put in a bad position...played outstanding in the 2nd half until we went soft that last drive because we were scared to get beat by the big play.
- We absolutely SUCK without Crist -- Agree (offense)
- Our backups are awful -- See above
- Michael Floyd was terrible today, with two drops - Can't disagree, but he had his moments
- The pass defense was terrible today -- Maybe; The were supporting the run defense too much, but didn't have much of a choice.
- Darrin Walls was bad -- No opinion, didn't notice.

My thoughts for what it's worth:

-- If Crist stays in, we win by 10 or more points.
-- Hate the loss, but the first time in a few years I came away with the feeling that we are getting better. Our time will come - have faith.
-- Love the coaching. Making adjustments throughout the game, even before half. Slowed the game down on offense when they realized our backups couldn't hang. (Probably kept it from being 35 to 7 by halftime)
-- This team is better prepared and more physically fit than they have been in years.
-- They have confidence and it shows. Once Crist came back I had confidence we were going to come back -- almost pulled it out.
-- We played a good team (possibly only because of Denard) and hung with them where we wouldn't have in the past.

I don't see us going 6-6 fellas. There isn't an offense on the board the rest of the way thats going to do what Denard did to us today.

Crist has got to learn to throw it about 20 feet lower into the end zone.. Floyd needs some stickem, and Riddick? Where is this guy everyone was gushing about? Mr. Jones, please wait until you enter the end zone when putting the ball on the ground.

Too bad the D couldn't get a clean punch to Denard.. He looks so fragile there. My guess is we end up with a better season than Michigan does.

Lesson learned: If you think Crist is going to play after the half, then kick that FG.. Obviously not knowing the situation I would have gone for it as well. How you can not hit Rudolph, forget everyone else, is beyond me.

Running game is capable.

Defense bent as far as it could today and kept the points off the board.

Remember boys, it only goes up from here.

Hmmm this is why people shouldnt post during or immideatly after the game.

Negatives: TURNOVERS
The D was out there WAY too long. Even early without Crist we could have kept it close and tried to eat some clock

Two very bad throws the end the game and the half, you gotta keep the ball in the field of play. So what if we dont convert but let the guys make a play

Positives
I thought the D overall played well and kept us in it early when things could have gotten really ugly.

Positives:

Our Defense - They played a damn good game and made several key stops. Simply put, they were on the field way too long and the offense kept putting them in bad positions with turnovers or no output. They worked their butts off...it's not their fault Michigan is one dimensional and has a WR pretending to be a QB.

Armando Allen - Continued to show growth and ability.

Crist - I have finally gotten to the point where I like him. Wasn't sure what to think before the season, but I'm good with him being our QB and leader.

Playcalling - I still feel we have a MUCH, I cannot stress enough, MUCH better and more interesting / explosive offense than we had under Weis / Willingham / Davie, etc. The choice to go for it right before the half (and not take the FG) was even a decent one. We needed something positive going into the half, especially with Meatchicken getting the ball again after intermission. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Had we got it, Kelly would look like a genius.

Negatives:

Our Back Up QB's - Granted, I understand it's a new offense. I also understand that Meatchicken is pretty good on defense. But both of our QB's look completely lost, as well as having very little business playing football. I mean, c'mon...not trying to be harsh, but you are playing on scholarship for a Division 1 school and you look that bad when called upon? Really? Suffice it to say, if Crist goes down, we're hosed. *Although, Nate had a couple nice throws so I do give him props for that. With time, he might be a decent backup.

Our lack of blitzing / defense against the mobile QB - Seriously...I would have blitzed him all day long. What's the worse that can happen? He beats you on the throw? OK...Meatchicken's WR's aren't scary at all...but their WR pretending to be a QB is. So, put enormous pressure on him (which will force bad throws, make him scramble into people already coming for his ass, or maybe he throws and burns you. We got burned for 500 yards by him alone anyway...so what's the difference? * With that having been said, I like our defensive coordinator MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better than the completely overrated Corwin Brown and the Artist Formerly Known As John Tenuta.

All in all, a very competitive and outstanding game to watch. Just one of those days it didn't go our way. Can't say we didn't have our chances.

TJ...dude...you got away with one

Back in high school we had one rule when it came to celebrating touchdowns: walk up to the ref and hand him the ball, get off the field. Sick celies are great, right up until you kill your team with a 15 yard penalty or you drop the ball a yard before the endzone.

Pretty good run down. It's amazing how different the team looked on both sides of the ball with Crist out. One other thing thats been bugging me is the two tosses out of the endzone by Montana in the 2nd, and Crist at the end. I mean sheesh at least throw it where someone has a chance to make a play. We may have well punted there.

positive: Crist, our D
negative: Depth at QB, Floyd's hands and TJ dropping the ball before he got in the endzone. Not being ready for a mobile QB.

Even with the loss I think there were many positives to take away from the game.

I like TJ Jones a lot, he will excel in this system.

The middle LB duo of Carlo and Manti look very good.

AA looked very good, even ran a couple people over.

Crist was pretty good also, clearly a much different team with him on the field. Can tell he is very talented, he is still just inexperienced. Its his second career start, I would expect some ups and downs from him he should improve a lot by the end of the season though.

I also like the heart this team plays with, if this were last year I have a feeling there would have been many more points on the board for UM

Oh yeah its nice to have a kicker that can put the ball in the endzone from time to time on the kick offs.

As much as I hate say it . . . . Coach Kelly lost that game. Crist is out and you have a chance after playing a terrible offensive sequence for 25 plus minutes to go into half time down 11 instead of down 14 and you put a young, inconsistent QB in a bad position. Notre Dame put up 24 points. With that filed goal going into the half we now are sitting on 27 at the end of the game. Dane then put us in position to kick a game winning field goal. That was the most arrogant move I have ever seen out of a coach in 20 years of watching college football. Absolutely inexcusable. He gave points away and ultimately gave the game away.

A bit harsh maybe!? He had no idea if Crist would be back, the offense was floundering, I didn't think it was crazy to try for the TD. Throwing in into the stands however, makes the decision painful.
