I cant wait to see the changes in positions and attitude. I was a Charlie guy and will not bash, but Kelly reminds me so much of ARA that its scary. He knows how to work the room and play the game. I think this coach wins and wins big. My comparison is the vest at Ohio State, I was living in Columbus when they hired him and told my friends back home just watch this guy will win games because he has won everywhere he has coached. I am no Buckeye fan (at all) but I knew they would win under Tressel just as I know Notre Dame will win under Kelly. I'll even take it one step further and say he will win 10 plus games quickly and much like Tressel will play for a few NCS. He may come up short, cant win all of them, but I have never felt so sure about success. Question is will Notre Dame fans be happy if he equals what Tressel has done in Columbus. I will be.

Never considered Tressel as a comparison. Big difference in philosophy and personality. Not 100% sold on Kelly yet because i still believe his style of play will have to evolve against the big boys but i too can see him exceeding expectations early. The problem with fanbases as passionate as Notre Dame's or OSU is that fans will be happy at first but will turn on him after what is considered 1 too many losses. There is a sector of fans who want Tressel out despite all that he has done there. If Kelly loses a couple BCS bowls and then has a down year you will hear the boo birds again. even if he wins a championship

The Kelly surge, expect it....just as the davie, ty, and weis surges. But dont be fooled by it. Even during the surge when there are some ND ppl crowing about how great he is, and how great he will be, remember it is part of the 3-5 year coaching cycle at ND. I'll be witholding support until he wins BCS game. During the Kelly surge my response will be, 'Great! he is doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing.' Last time I checked, you dont get credit at work for doing the things that your supposed to do. At Notre Dame a BCS game is expected, and credit comes in when you win that BCS game.

He's my coach, and I'll back him to the ends. Hell, I may even get into a fist fight over him.

Yeah, anyone know which bar he was at when he got popped? I can't wait to visit the Linebacker and Corby's... Corby's right? One of my boss's boss's boss's boss's bosses told me about the spot, supposedly the spot they fixed up for Rudy. Anyways, he went to highschool there. His mom works at Hammes.

I'm in the same school of thought. I have hopped on the Ty and Weis bandwagons, and I'm not getting burned again.

So, according to Kelly, Cierre will continue to be a RB. This is what he said during his PC today. The Riddick move to slot is designed, in part, to open up opportunities for Cierre to get touches.

I didn't really have a preference one way or the other - I trusted Kelly knew what he was doing. However, this does help to confirm my suspicion about the ND Nation poster. Here's to Cierre (and Theo) having a great season!!

Notre Dame, Kelly looking to spring far ahead - Chicago Breaking Sports

Brian Hamilton

3/23
On quarterback Dayne Crist's recovery from ACL surgery: "We'd be really close to playing with him. Obviously, we're going to be smart. He'll play all our 7-on-7 routines, he'll be in all of our one-on-ones. We'll put a big funnel around him and make sure no one gets near him."

On backup quarterback Nate Montana: "We gotta rely on Montana to really compete with Crist. He's got some experience. He bounced around a little bit, he understands what he needs to be. He's caught our eye a little bit. He's going to have to come through for us."

On the Theo Riddick-to-receiver move: "I mentioned how important it is to get your playmakers on the field. We also had to open up space for Cierre Wood. Here's a guy who was sitting fourth on the depth chart with two seniors, it was going to be hard to get him on the field. We need to get him on the field as well. Moving Theo, we believe he's got the ability to catch the football at the line of scrimmage and make big plays for us. It gets a Cierre Wood into the football game."

On other position switches: "We moved Lane Clelland over to defense, he was an offensive lineman. We needed some more size and strength. We moved Steve Paskorz, who was a fullback, to inside linebacker to give us bigger, stronger, more physical players. I think we all saw that we needed to stop the run last year, we needed to get bigger, and we couldn't do it through recruiting. We needed to do it through players on our roster."

On Tyler Eifert's recovery from disc surgery: "Tyler's coming back, doing a great job, really pleased. I think he's got a chance to be a really good player here. I think they've solved the back problem with him. He's long, he's athletic, he provides us with the kind of tight end we're looking for."

On running back Jonas Gray's status: "Jonas is part of our program, absolutely. He is in spring practice, yep."

On Wood and Theo
"I think I mentioned how important it is to get your playmakers on the field," Kelly said. "We also opened up space for Cierre Wood. Here's another guy who was sitting fourth on the depth chart with two seniors. It was going to be hard to get him on the field. We need to get him on the field as well.

"Moving Theo, we believe that he's got the ability to catch the football at the line of scrimmage and make big plays for us. And then it gets Cierre Wood now into the football game. I think that has kind of a double-pronged effect because it gets both those guys on the field."

Kelly on Clelland
We needed some more size and strength. We need (Paskorz) to give us stronger, bigger, more physical players. I think we all saw that we needed to stop the run last year, we needed to get bigger and we couldn't do it through recruiting. We needed to do it through players on our roster.

On Competition
There really is no first group, second group, third group," Kelly said. "It's a collection of players. There's going to be competition at every position. That's one thing I create in our program 24 hours a day, seven days a week

Joe Montana enjoys watching his sons Nate and Nick play quarterback - ESPN Los Angeles

by Lorenzo Reyes

Tyler Eifert, who saw limited action before being diagnosed with a back injury last fall underwent successful surgery and is back in action with the Irish, Kelly reported.
“Tyler is coming back,” he said. “He’s doing a great job. We’re really pleased. He had disc surgery. I think he has a chance to be a very good player here. I think they’ve solved the back problem. He’s long, he’s athletic and he provides us with the kind of tight end that we’re looking for. He’s done a great job of bouncing back.”
Additionally, the Irish coach informed the media that Brandon Walker, thought to have a career-threatening back problem, is now back with the Irish squad as well.
“Walker has a pre-existing condition in his lower back,” Kelly said. “He’s going to have to show up on Saturdays and do what he can do.”
Kelly added that both Eifert and Walker have been cleared for spring practice participation.

I was figuring on both of these guys being done.

One guy one NDNation was claiming that Woods going to DB was indeed a fact, citing the always reliable 'inside sources'. I never go on that site anymore because it's filled with more miserable people than a goth concert, and if you read their crap it'll make you want to punch your computer monitor (since you can't reach out and punch them). NOTHING can make many of those guys happy...

Looks like we are going to get a chance to see what our boy Cierre can do. I know you have really liked this kid and I have thought he would be a great player at ND. I was really nervous we might lose him due to the depth chart, but I think if he gets a chance to see the field, he might never be out of the lineup again. I still say he is going to be something special.

"Looks like we are going to get a chance to see what our boy Cierre can do" lets come down with that "boy" talk....

All the players are "our boy" at Notre Dame.

It's a term of endearment.

A Notre Dame fan would know that.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
