Could it be that Tulsi is holding a bit of a grudge over being labeled a Russian asset? Was this her #1 objective coming in?

An ounce of FAFO for once would be nice but I expect zero people to serve jail time and would not be surprised if the number of arrests from this was less than 1.
I haven't had a chance to read up on it, but my initial reaction to the headlines, is this is like the Trump impeachment. A total waste of time and money.

Orchestrated spectacle and waste of time distraction... And Tulsi needs to get on DJT and New Right's good side again as she contradicted their opinion on the threat of Iranian nukes. She needs to prove she can stick to the script as written by the New Right and her loyalty to them and DJT. The one thing that is dangerous about it is that she using words in her press release such as "treasonous conspiracy" which just might cause some mouth breathers to do something stupid.

So just politics as usual to undermine a duly elected president?

Trump impeachment wasn't a waste - totally undermined his first term and weakened his re-election.

Nothing to process - It's a joke. She got slapped down as not on board with the Trump and the New Right team on Iran bombings and now she's trying to prove her mettle and that she does indeed belong to the New Right Club. Waste of time and news space. Move along... Nothing to see here.

Even if it's all 100% true Obama is immune thanks to Trump anyways.

I’ll wait to see what develops, but If it’s true, the damage to the Democratic Party will be almost irreparable. Particularly when Obama is their Golden Boy.

The timing of the Obamagate stuff certainly feels like a distraction from the Epstein case. That said, I thought the first time around that the spying allegations were bad, along with all the pearl clutching over democracy being desecrated as a result of the overblown Russia stuff. The truth was Schiff and others in the party knew the Russia allegations were trumped up from the start, and they pushed the narrative anyway because Trump was rolling towards a 2nd term prior to the pandemic.

This was before Trump even took office. The sitting President colluded with intel agencies and his political party to frame the incoming duly elected president. The J6 handwringers should be up in arms over this whole peaceful transfer of power thing.

You can bully all you want but anyone with half a brain and who has the ability to do some critical thinking can see how ridiculous and unsupported this accusation is Gabbard releases more Russia documents, prompting concerns over intelligence sources And she has compromised and endangered intelligence sources and methods by declassifying and releasing these documents. Said it before and will say it again, she’s a drone

She's a drone but you can't admit you were fooled on the Russia collusion hoax nearly a decade later. No pattern there when it comes to trying to label Tulsi a Russian asset too.

I can admit I was fooled on WMD hoax. Pisses me off they pulled that one off. Maybe that is why I didn't buy it in 2016 when the same cast of characters was pushing another hoax - a ridiculous one at that. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Worst of all is Dems propensity to just rail incessantly accusing others of exactly what they are doing with impunity.

Agreed. I mean by any clear reading of the Presidential Immunity case, this would be something you’d be immune for, and bringing Obama to trial even if you think he is guilty (which I am not that convinced that he is) would be purely for political theater (read: politicization of the DOJ)

Dude, I don't care about what-isms and all that shit. I believe Democrats for sure also do things we don't like - like hiding Biden to keep his early dementia a secret - but I don't give two shits about Russian Hoaxes - The 2016 one or this one. My main focus and why I'm paying more attention these days is the fact that this current admin is not a Ronald Reagan or GW Bush, or Bill Clinton one - This admin in power is a crazed New Right coalition that is looking to reshape the American form of government (establish an Autocracy) and American society (remake it as Originalist and National Christian). Meaning I don't give a fat flying fuck about "Liberal Dems" or Maga (which are just a group of brainwashed Republicans who have been persuaded to blame everything wrong in this country on those Liberal Dems.

There is no longer a two-party system. I would only acknowledge that there is if there is actually a free and fair 2026 election, but I'm not counting on that. Your and others' rants about "what about (insert Libs, Dems, etc.)" and the crazy "Lunatic Left" - They are meaningless; because that implies there is still a Republican and Democrats two-party system. That has pretty much vanished at this point if you're paying attention. And if you think "Awesome, fuck the Dems!" Think again, because NO ONE will be immune from feeling the brunt of arbitrary executive orders and new oppressive legal measures we don't like. This New Right - when it's even more deeply entrenched - will not give two fucks that you voted for Trump and Vance and have your red Maga hat. It will be "do as I say" and there's gonna be a lot of "saying" that you and everyone in this country ain't gonna like. Because an Autocratic governmental system can't survive without complete control, i.e., one party in control that will keep the Democratic party around for show, and where the elections only go one way.

You run a small business that is devastated by ICE taking your work crew away - Fuck you - That's how it is! Oh, you don't like the new Central Bank Digital Currency where the government oversees and monitors all your digital financial transactions - So sad, too bad, that's how it goes now. You don't like that the admin cut emergency and weather services and FEMA and as a result, you lost your home in a sudden (and without warning) flood - Get over it dude, that's how it is! I know I can't convince you, but every day - as we're distracted by this admin's spectacles and hoaxes - we get a little closer to it... Executive orders keep being fired off, Judges keep ruling in the admin's favor, ICE keeps getting as big as an army, and reconciliation packages (planned for every quarter) and rescission packages keep getting passed to continually cut program spending and cancel approved appropriations. One day, that next law or action against you, or the next tragedy that impacts you will finally make you see the light.

This sure rhymes with me during the Obama years. I am smelling a lot of libertarian principles in this rant too. Ten years from now I will welcome you to the dark side young apprentice. Look up Convention of States - I don't see election of federal officials getting us where we need to go whether its a one, two or ten party system.

Yep, Article V Convention of States. I’ve been following that p sr past few months. What about it? If you’re a fan of that happening, you’re crazy. That will undoubtedly will become a runaway Constitutional Convention and it won’t end well. These New Right kooks will have deeply intertwining Christian Nationalism and all kinds of amendments to pit white men only in the drivers seat for voting and holding office with very extended terms. If it were to happen, it would cement an Autocracy in place for the US for a long time into the future. It would rip apart our Constitution and Republic and would result in an abomination. Not sure what good you think will come out of it?

"Article V of the U.S. Constitution gives states the power to call a convention to propose amendments. It takes 34 states to call the convention and 38 to ratify any amendments that are proposed. Our convention would only allow the states to discuss amendments that, “limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints, and place term limits on federal officials.”

Wouldn't it be worth it for term limits alone? Thought that was an 80/20 issue. Fiscal restraints on feds - I'm not sure what "new right cooks" are (do you mean kooks?) or what Christian Nationalism has to do with a balanced budget amendment. It sounds like your social feeds are a hoot. I agree Autocracy has been a problem even before Obama said he just needed a phone and a pen (maybe you are too young to remember that).

If you fear these boogey men weaponizing the federal government you should be in favor of reducing the scale and scope of the federal government. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Yes, I understand what Article V is and I'm sorry but yes with these New Right Kooks (thank you, fixed it), this CC will become a runaway convention of craziness as it will go far beyond limiting terms and balanced budget amendments. "Boogey men" and "weaponizing the federal government?" This is not Social media stuff - Are you not doing your own research on what's going on? These kooks are doing the exact opposite of reducing Federal government reach. They creating executive orders on the daily that are oppressively extending their power and control over states - The only thing they're reducing are entitlements (the amount of which can always be debated). And an Article V convention - especially with no formal, written process for how the states will elect their reps to the convention or how it would work, other than the final voting regulations we know about to pass new Amendments. It would be co-opted by the leaders and ideology of people like Kevin Roberts, Russell Vought, Stephen Miller, and would be infiltrated with a ton of National Christian company men. What comes out of that will not even be close to resembling a Constitutional Republic. Sorry, what's being cooked right now is and will not be anything like any of our previous administrations in our nation's history... Not like any of them. And there will not be any evidence of Libertarianism if that's what you're getting it. They will be looking to bend the convention to their ideas and will be looking to create a Christian Theocracy where white men rule (in every sense of the word). WTF do you think are behind whipping out these executive orders and the white nationalism rhetoric and actions (like building an ICE army)? It's not any devout Reagan Republicans or Libertarians, and certainly not Trump (if as he had any clue how to do that). "I'm not sure... what Christian Nationalism has to do with a balanced budget amendment." Man, you are extremely naive if you think that's the only kind of thing that's going to go down at an Article V CC with these kooks in control. You better start doing your research..

I agree that Trump and Republicans are just as bad as Dems in exploding federal spending - just in different ways.

Convention proposes amendments. Amendments go to states. State legislatures vote on amendments. The kooky shit you describe would never pass states. You might want to look at Obama's phone and pen if you want to pitch a fit about EOs.

Here is the Resolution being passed:

Whereas, the Founders of our Constitution empowered State Legislators to be guardians of liberty against future abuses of power by the federal government, and Whereas, the federal government has created a crushing national debt through improper and imprudent spending, and Whereas, the federal government has invaded the legitimate roles of the states through the manipulative process of federal mandates, most of which are unfunded to a great extent, and Whereas, the federal government has ceased to live under a proper interpretation of the Constitution of the United States, and Whereas, it is the solemn duty of the States to protect the liberty of our people—particularly for the generations to come—by proposing Amendments to the Constitution of the United States through a Convention of the States under Article V for the purpose of restraining these and related abuses of power, Be it therefore resolved by the legislature of the State of ________________: Section 1. The legislature of the State of ____________________________________________ hereby applies to Congress, under the provisions of Article V of the Constitution of the United States, for the calling of a convention of the states limited to proposing amendments to the Constitution of the United States that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and for members of Congress. Section 2. The secretary of state is hereby directed to transmit copies of this application to the President and Secretary of the United States Senate and to the Speaker and Clerk of the United States House of Representatives, and copies to the members of the said Senate and House of Representatives from this State; also to transmit copies hereof to the presiding officers of each of the legislative houses in the several States, requesting their cooperation. Section 3. This application constitutes a continuing application in accordance with Article V of the Constitution of the United States until the legislatures of at least two-thirds of the several states have made applications on the same subject.

Passed in 19 states, passed on chamber in four more and active legislation this year in another 20. Well on the way to 34 states needed to call a convention. Convention of States advancing Autocracy is a funny stance to take IMO.

In general, when I say Autocracy, of course, I don't mean one suddenly proclaimed by those in power, it's a cut by cut evolution to it and all the while keeping outward appearance of there being an option for other party(ies), similar to what Viktor Orbán, leader of Hungary, has done to systematically dismantle democracy there. As far as how things can unfold to dismantle US democracy and civil liberties at an Article V CC, I'll let Gemini handle that...

"An Article V Constitutional Convention, also known as a Convention of States, is a process outlined in the U.S. Constitution for proposing amendments. It is triggered when two-thirds of the state legislatures (34 states) apply to Congress for a convention. While the Constitution specifies this threshold, it provides minimal guidance on the convention's procedures, rules, or the scope of potential amendments. This lack of explicit rules raises concerns about the potential for the convention to be influenced by special interests and to propose amendments that could undermine fundamental rights.

Here's a breakdown of the process and related issues:
The Process:
  1. State Applications: At least 34 state legislatures must apply to Congress, requesting a convention for proposing amendments.

  2. Congress's Role: Congress is then obligated to call the convention.

  3. Convention: The convention would be composed of delegates chosen by the states.

  4. Proposed Amendments: The convention can propose amendments to the Constitution.

  5. Ratification: Any proposed amendments must be ratified by three-fourths of the states (38 states) either through their legislatures or through specially called state ratification conventions.
Unresolved Issues and Concerns:
  • No Rules for the Convention:
The Constitution provides no explicit rules for the convention's operation, including the selection of delegates, the number of delegates per state, rules of order, and the scope of potential amendments.

  • Potential for Undemocratic Influence:
The lack of rules could allow for wealthy special interests or extremist groups to exert undue influence on the convention's proceedings and proposed amendments.

  • Uncertainty and Instability:
The potential for unpredictable outcomes and the lack of clarity surrounding the convention process could lead to legal challenges and economic instability.

  • No Limits on Amendments:
The convention could propose amendments on any topic, potentially including those that could infringe upon fundamental rights.

  • Congress's Role After the Convention:
It's unclear what role Congress would have in overseeing or validating the convention's proceedings and proposed amendments.
In essence, while the Article V process provides a mechanism for states to propose constitutional amendments, the lack of detailed rules and procedures creates significant risks and uncertainties about the potential outcome of such a convention."

Knowing how Trump and this admin are leveraging the ability withhold the Federal purse for states who don't cooperate and the almost complete lack of rules for how the convention operates and especially re: size and selection process of delegates, that is a CC coup waiting to happen....

And, as of February 6, 2025, Republicans control both chambers of the legislature in 28 states.
This means Republicans hold majorities in both the House and Senate (or the equivalent chambers) in those 28 states.
Additionally, there are 18 states with full Democratic control and 4 states with split control (where each chamber is controlled by a different party).

So, Republicans are almost there today in terms of nearing complete legislative control in 34 states before the A5 CC even begins!
Although not all Republicans will agree with New Right National Christian craziness, they can likely be compelled via all the ways outlined here including as simple as "we all need to fall in line and do what's right for our party."

I can't emphasize enough how out of control an A5CC could get and how our Constitution and Civil Liberties and our Republic could be torn to shreds. The 1787 CC is apparently regarded as a "runaway convention," but hopefully, most of us agree that was a good thing then. Today, too many ill-intentioned ideologues with vast power could turn a modern-day A5CC into a nightmare runaway convention.

"New Right National Christian crazies" - LOL you still check under your bed at night for monsters too? What are these nefarious mandates these boogeymen are going to slam in these amendments that sneak by 75% with of states approving? Term limits but only if you aren't white? JFC how damaged are you that you think they are sneaking in slavery or some shit in the fine print of term limits on Congress and Senate.

Are you aware the feds removed road funding for states that did not change the legal drinking age to 21? This was in 1984. Using federal funding as cudgel to force states to do what the feds want is not a new "thing." Maybe less reliance on federal funding would allow more freedom for states and municipalities to do what they want!

As to the bolded - you sound like my teenage daughter when I tell her she can't do something. Holy melodramatic, you can't be serious. I am left furthering my belief that the left is afraid of debate because they only run on emotions. Just say you have no interest in term limits or federal fiscal sanity instead of claiming some white dudes with bibles are going to hurt you.
