Trump is right. He could shoot someone and people would still support him.

Sure. If he sees a naked man with a butcher knife chasing a woman in an alley with a hard on, he shoots the bastard.

That's his policy.

And yes - looting is the cheese. You don't know many degenerates if you can't comprehend breaking shit and chaos being enough motivation for some which is why young violent vandals should face stiffer sentences and more persistent pursuit than elderly J6 tourists with no previous criminal record.
Who is confused about their motivations? They were young dumbasses using the BLM protests as cover to break shit for fun and to steal stuff for their own personal gain.

It's just simply not true that the Jan 6ers are getting disproportionate sentences vs those that rioted over Floyd.

Why isn't Ray Epps in jail if your fantasy is true? He would have to be a Trump operative instigating wouldn't he? Why would he be protected as a Trump toady?

So are we now saying people that stormed the capitol got too light of sentences? You're giving me whiplash.

40 Months Since the Jan. 6 Attack on the Capitol.

Sentencings:
  • Approximately 884 defendants have had their cases adjudicated and received sentences for their criminal activity on Jan. 6. Approximately 541 have been sentenced to periods of incarceration. Approximately 172 defendants have been sentenced to a period of home detention, including approximately 31 who also were sentenced to a period of incarceration.
Your 2021 AP story says

"An Associated Press review of court documents in more than 300 federal cases stemming from the protests sparked by George Floyd’s death last year shows that dozens of people charged have been convicted of serious crimes and sent to prison.

The AP found that more than 120 defendants across the United States have pleaded guilty or were convicted at trial of federal crimes including rioting, arson and conspiracy. More than 70 defendants who’ve been sentenced so far have gotten an average of about 27 months behind bars. At least 10 received prison terms of five years or more."

Biggest WTF idiot reporting detail I would point out for the AP - what are the local stats, not just federal. Bill Barr was correct - these were mostly local issues. Unless you were on federal property, keep it in the state. Some whining on the anecdotes of local sentencing in Champaign Illinois and Charleston SC and promoting Portlandia leniency isn't surprising from the AP.

This propaganda piece would make Orwell roll his eyes "The mob of Trump supporters whipped up by the former president’s lies about the election descended on the Capitol and pushed past police barriers, assaulted officers, smashed windows and sent lawmakers running in a stunning attempt to overturn the presidential election."

Ray Epps destroys your narrative - It's OK, I know you don't really believe. Just like Santa, you pretend for the spirit of your Christmas.

Trump and republicans are the ones that tried to throw him under the bus lol.

I generally try to avoid arguments on here with you because I think you might genuinely be slow.

What about openly interfering with a freely elected president's administration for four years with known false charges? That's OK and good democracy though, huh?
Bishop, I urge you to please read the Mueller report and then tell me that there was no Russian collusion.

I fully expect some drama to facilitate a non-Biden nominee out of the convention like Gavin Newsome.
I've heard he's a real asshole and not even liked in the blue circles. Even newspapers are admitting Biden is senile now, so a replacement is logical. How do you not give it to the black woman in waiting?

Kind of hard to have an insurrection without an armed militia or group. It is clear there was little if any organization to the protest. They few that did get in didn't resemble a group that had a target and purpose. Pence being level headed and refusing to bow to Trump's wishes put a big obstacle in anyone stopping the count.
Did you follow any of the trials of Proud Boys, etc.? If you had, you would have learned that some were armed and there were large caches of weapons nearby (in cars, houses, etc.), there was a plan formulated during meetings involving Trump, that Roger Stone was the liaison between Trump and the Proud Boys, etc. etc.

The bottom line is that this was an organized attempt to stop the transfer of power. Period.

Talk about unlikable.
Right- but seeing the Dems bypass a black woman when the VP HAD to be a black woman would be hard to imagine. They don't want to admit she's an unqualified clown. But they also don't want to run her. If they had picked a competent VP, we prob would have had the transition by now.

It was a mostly peaceful protest. They weren't setting DC on fire and destroying everything in every major city in the country. They weren't attacking federal courthouses with fire bombs and trying to trap feds inside to burn to death for two straight months They weren't blinding feds by shooting their eyes with lasers and throwing frozen water bottles at them. It was mostly peaceful and then about 300 people started to riot.

Jan. 6 was a dark, ugly day. No doubt. But it wasn't a 'coup' or an 'insurrection'. No matter how much you want it to be. Just like there was no Russian collusion. Putin didn't invade his neighbors until Trump left office. Just like he did before under Obama.

The only 'coup' that was attempted was the 4 year long 'Palace Coup' that began literally the night of the election when he was declared the winner.

Isn't Comer still trying to impeach Biden? Lol.
Completely irrelevant to the discussion of Trump and a different matter. One side used a 100% false (and absolutely knew it was false) bit of info to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on a political rival's campaign and launch endless investigations in order to hinder a duly elected president. That's against everything our country stands for. That's Stalin and Mao and Putin level wrong.

You want to cry threats to democracy??? Seriously? Anyone ignoring or defending that is the poster child for hypocrisy and the term useful idiot. Every time I hear the exaggerated insurrection nonsense and crying about Trump's character, I think about all that and the riots and burnings and looting and violence your side condoned and I'm reminded of camels & gnats, and beams & specks.

Isn’t there video of Pelosi telling the guard not to secure the capitol?

Like a child that won't stop after being warned by their mom or dad several times, then they're shocked when they put an end to their behavior. Fortunately for us, most will allow the "far folks" to go only so far before rational citizens say enough.

Isn’t that exactly what most religions ask of their adherents? Accept things on “faith” and create binary choices based on the reading/interpretation of a text that might be thousands of years old and has been reinterpreted/edited multiple times?

The issue of abortion is a good example of this. If you accept that life begins at conception and abortion is murder that doesn’t leave much wiggle room on said issue.

Another example, the claim that the US is a “Christian Nation”. We’ll, if that’s the case it’s a pretty small step to a theocracy.

Anyhow, here’s an interesting interview with a GOP candidate running for the house in Colorado that illustrates this slippery slope. Dudes argument is ridiculous. Also kinda interesting that a local news caster is asking hard hitting questions and follow ups where as larger National media outlets almost never do this.

Justin Giboney is from the school of Jonathan Turley centrism. Handwaving away progressive policies because somehow it’s just as bad as bad evangelicalism lol. Best way to maintain conservative policies is to equate both sides as equally bad.

I thought Maher laid this out pretty well. Immigration, European elections,

Biden would've probably coasted to victory if he wouldn't have been kissing up to the progressives the first 3 years.

Wasn’t familiar with Giboney.

Read a bit about him. One quote that jumped out at me about his organization the AND Campaign was “Its primary goal is to spread the love and truth of the Gospel to the world.”

Again, there’s a whole bunch of ways to interpret the “truth of the Gospel”. So no thanks on that.

An interview I read conducted with him was littered with the same bullshit platitudes like the one posted above. How about posting some simple, clear, concise policy stances and goals and leaving it at that?

Anyhow, most of these 501c3 policy think tanks, PAC’s and the like seem more like ways to grift post Citizens United (a Grade A “conservative” world view shit sandwich if there ever was one) more than anything else.

Yeah....he's Coach Speak but mix in Christian Theocracy.

They do a bang up job of framing themselves as the "middle ground" where it's Libs of Tiktok on one side and a progressive on the other - and then saying something like "You know, LoT shouldn't say euthanatize the trans people but they carry an important message that all progressives want to groom your children". And then you see real life adults who don't wear diapers say shit like "You know, Biden is actually hyper progressive! He won't find common ground with the other side who want to rollback rights so that makes him a progressive"

Which is great that Biden is adopting right wing policy positions because they think they'll somehow outflank the Right on anti immigration shit. No voter is going to vote for the guy who adopts the policy positions of the Right but doesn't go all the way to say stuff like "ARMY ON BOARDER NOW!!! KILL THE MEXICANS! KILL THE RAPISTS!".
