I wonder if she took an oath? Don't most elected officials? If she did, then wouldn't she have swore to uphold laws and faithfully execute etc. I wonder?

Btw hi everyone! I hope everyone is having a great opening day eve!

Bob! Where have you been, my friend? Good seeing you posting. Welcome to opening day.

Hi buddy! I had to take a break and devote myself to a relentless work and travel schedule. I've been checking in briefly from time to time, but I have tons of catching up to do. I hope all is well? Hopefully you've been keeping these yahoos in line around here.

Wait, so people are actually arguing that she should be able to impose her moral and religious beliefs and infringe on others legal rights because she does not agree?

Not many. But a few fringe right wing folks, which includes a handful of Republican candidates for president.

Maybe she can find a prison guard who's gay and feels she shouldn't have to detain straight people?

Yeah. Some of them made me face palm and SHM at the same time. Didn't hear all of them but I did hear Trump while on the Morning Joe Show. He was reasonable.

I don't think it is that simple. It all really depends on the framing of the complaint. From her perspective her beliefs are being compromised by an oppressive central government policy which conflicts with deeply held religious convictions. From the other perspective she is violating the law in obstructing legal ( now) matrimony between consenting adults and preventing others in her office from doing them as well.

She does not see it as discrimination. Obviously many other people do.

She might have a leg to stand on if she just refused to personally issue the licenses. She's refusing to allow anyone in her office to issue them and is claiming that the licenses issued while she's in prison are invalid. It's pretty clear. People have a legal right to the license.

And throw in the fact that she's on her 4th marriage. As I've said...she's a terrible standard bearer for the religious right to select.

Would Huckabee feel the same if a Quaker refused to issue a hand gun license because of his deeply held beliefs?

Oppressive? Nobody is forcing her to stay at the job. If I hate my job or goes against my beliefs I am gone.

Who could possibly think she has any ground to stand on? This would be equivalent to a cop or soldier saying "I can't defend gays because it's against my religious beliefs"'. The job description requires fulfillment of laws not her beliefs. However if her beliefs cause her to be unable to do the job, then I believe she should be fired.

How long till the game starts? :)

I share theses stances but from her perspective she is being forced to do something against her conscious. It's problematic because she sincerely believes its not right. Would any of you do something under pain of jail time that you deemed morally wrong?

But yeah.... 4th marriage..... haha. Marriage is under attack by homosexuals.....right.

Judge upholds 'show your papers' Arizona immigration law | Reuters

Sep 5, 2015 5:03pm EDT

A federal judge has upheld part of Arizona's contentious immigration law, rejecting claims that the so-called "show your papers" section discriminated against Hispanics.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton on Friday was on the last of seven challenges to the 2010 law. The section she upheld allows police in Arizona to check the immigration status of anyone they stop.

Bolton ruled that immigration rights activists failed to show that police would enforce the law differently for Hispanics than other people. The section is sometimes called the "show your papers" provision.

She also upheld a section that let police check to see if a detainee is in the United States illegally. Bolton voided any laws targeting day labor.

Bolton's ruling came two days after a federal judge approved a deal between the U.S. Justice Department and Arizona's Maricopa County to resolve accusations of civil rights abuses and dismissed the department's lawsuit against Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his deputies.

Sorry if this was posted already. I haven't gone through and caught up on everything yet.

Here is the oath she took. She's done before it begun.

I, _____, do swear that I will well and truly discharge the duties of the office of _____ County Circuit Court clerk, according to the best of my skill and judgment, making the due entries and records of all orders, judgments, decrees, opinions and proceedings of the court, and carefully filing and preserving in my office all books and papers which come to my possession by virtue of my office; and that I will not knowingly or willingly commit any malfeasance of office, and will faithfully execute the duties of my office without favor, affection or partiality, so help me God."

Funny how people who claim to know the Bible really contradict themselves all the time. Of course now she is claiming she interpreted her oath to God as something different. So I guess she is guilty of sin.

=========

Deuteronomy 23:21-23

“If you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay fulfilling it, for the Lord your God will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin. But if you refrain from vowing, you will not be guilty of sin. You shall be careful to do what has passed your lips, for you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth."

Don't they have more time sensitive and important things to secure and protect... like the Steelers' locker room and play sheets??

Just saw a meme and can't locate it right now.

Rush Limbaugh, Kim Davis, Newt Gingrich, and Donald Trump have been married 14 times.

All of them are for "traditional marriage."

Newt was having an affair while his wife was dying in a hospital....#not judging.

Also, technically that's not true. She didn't die. And they were already in divorce proceedings.

But he did ask her to sign papers while she was in the hospital recovering from the removal of a (benign?) tumor.
