He approved extension of the Bush Tax Cuts. And he "approved" the raid on OBL. And he decided not to prosecute state marijuana users.

So there's 3. Honestly can't think of any others, though.

He drank a beer with someone......Of course that's after he sided with a race baiter and said he "acted stupidly"...but hey, he drinks beer and talks sports.

Thanks for humoring me.

Ya I was just curious because it seems like there is never much of an admission that he did ANYTHING good. I actually liked parts of Romney's plan and I do respect his business acumen a ton. I had hoped he would win the primary back in 2008.

http://bit.ly/SU0fdJ please go vote for my teams video!! The topic is actually very interesting. We had to devise a plan and advise a presidential candidate on issues of taxation and the federal deficit. It will probably spark some discussion on here. I need my fellow IE'ers to help a brotha out!! Lets turn out in the numbers like everyone did to vote for Jaylon.

Which manager are you referring to?

I apologize. I misspoke, I meant to say Wall Street Bank managers, would not want to give the hedge fund managers a bad name, although companies like Bear Stearns and Goldman Sach's do operate Hedge Funds and did receive bailout money directly or indirectly. I will say though how does this change the point of my argument which I am sure you understood? Let's not lose the forest for the trees.

And many rely on food stamps and the like heavily. Check out the deep south in this chart.

Food Stamp Use, by State | Intellectual Takeout (ITO)

Is it racist for me to mention the estimated 12 to 19 million people who receive government benefits of some sort (food stamps, education, healthcare) and contribute nothing to the system?

On a strictly mathematical level, politics aside, how long do you think a republic can afford that? And please don't respond by saying I want to put them all in trucks and deport them.

We're in a slow recovery. The number will drop. I don't desire for people to be on Food Stamps. I simply believe that to remove these benefits in the name of austerity would have left us other massive problems. Some likely are playing the system. Most desperately want to work and be self sufficient, but find themselves in trouble. Without a safety net, what happens to them?

Agreed but I think you would have to consider that even if people are not playing the system per se, that doesn't mean the system is doing a good job of getting people off of it. Thus, education is the biggest issue.

Also I'm working a shift dealing with 15 of the biggest bankers in Columbus, I'm listening to their conversation-it's pretty interesting ill give you the feedback later. Some good points on the economy. But it's my birthday so I won't be wasting it typing it out haha

I agree with those as well, I also was in support of the Dream Act.

Whoever gets rid of corn subsidies loses the midwest next election.

Yup. Even though liberals think subsidies favor industrial agriculture (and junk food) over small farms (and healthy local food) and conservatives think subsidies are inherently market distorting, the only people who care enough to vote based on the subsidy issue are the people who receive them. So, basically, there's no votes in being anti corn subsidy, but there's plenty to lose.

Then why don't we get rid of them!? lol

GOP needs to get on board with cutting all subsidies, and creating a path to legal citizenship for current illegal immigrants.

The subsidies to the oil companies are ridiculous. They are some of the most profitable companies in the world.

And these aren't the only ones as I stated above, but some here would rather demonize an indigent person or family going through a tough time. Are some gaming the system? Sure, but I am at a loss for the outrage with one group who gets what amounts to crumbs, and the support for the agendas of the others who have the power and appetite to cripple an economy. It's mind boggling. Lets hate a welfare recipient that gets a discounted phone, because Verizon lobbied the government to make it happen and not be pissed with Verizon, who looks for the government to subsidize them for their new client. Lets bail out Wall Street, further deregulate, and then hand them Social Security. Brilllliiant!

I don't follow politics as closely as I should, but I've been told I can now drop out of college and live off of my successful, rich classmates since Obama's been reelected. Is this true?

Tytler Cycle - I fear we have passed the tipping point, but I think people are generally fiscally ignorant on pretty much every level of their life. Since they can't comprehend economics, how would they possibly vote based on economic issues?

Unemployment will most likely be well under 8%. Obamacare will force employers to offer more part time work (already seeing this in restaurants and hospitality) so the underemployed numbers that everyone ignores will skyrocket.

$20 trillion debt is not much different than what Romney would produce, the problem will be the trend. Since a path to balancing the budget won't be there (IMO) interest rates have a better chance of getting out of control. Plus, $6 gasoline and other inflation in basic needs will push poor and middle class into an increasingly crappy position.

A point I missed in education - Pell Grants. I couldn't understand the focus on this. Well look at the demographics. Who Are Pell Grant Recipients? | Inside Higher Ed

While Student Loan interest rates is a better case for equal opportunity, Pell Grants allow Obama to buy the votes of his constituency. Stafford Loans are a hand up, Pell Grants are a hand out.

the restaurant and hospitality industries have used primarily part-time workers since there were restaurant and hospitality industries. This isn't because of Obamacare.

If the purpose of Pell Grants is to "buy votes" than so are tax breaks for the rich, oil subsidies, easing of regulation, corporate loopholes and all manner of other incentives republicans promise to corporate interests. Both sides have different strategies to get the economny moving and they offer their plans up during elections as a direction to push the country forward. The GOP's narrow focus on corporations was rejected during the election by voters. The people chose Pell Grants -- even those of us who will never use them.

Yeah just ignore all the articles about restaurants cutting full time workers for part time workers citing Obamacare as the reason.

The chips begin to fall. So sad my neighbor who is an engineer in the defense division got his pink slip today. He is on fire that the Obama administration asked for these layoffs to not occur until after the election. This state is going to fall into the ocean. With the super majority the Dems have, rumor is they are going to repeal Prop. 13 which would be devastating.

First off, I feel bad for your friend.

But
How is this Obama's fault? Post like this kill me. So we should keep buying and building C-17's even if we don't need them? So the deficit doesn't matter when it comes to military spending and jobs but jobs that are there because of other federal spending don't matter? Sigh. I need a drink.
