I wonder how she ties her shoes in the morning. Probably wears slip-ons with a big L and R imprint. I guess Toyota should start putting the catalytic converter in the glovebox or maybe installing armor plate on the underside of the Prius to protect the exhaust system from people who need to steal automotive parts for food. God forbid we blame the criminals for their behavior and impact on society.

Yes, it's illegal to have a stolen catalytic converter in your possession, but I think the point of this proposed law is to make having ANY catalytic converter in your possession, unless you're an authorized dealer/parts supplier, a crime. If you catch a guy with 20 of them in his trunk, you know they're stolen, but you likely can't determine where he stole them, from which cars, or match them to a particular car, so you can't seize them nor prosecute him. This proposed law makes it illegal to have them and easier to prosecute converter thefts.

I heard something interesting yesterday regarding a shooting that happened in a small town in Alabama (Dadeville) several days ago. A family held a 16th birthday party at a town venue and during the party, 4 kids were killed and 30 people were injured (the 30 were not all shot, by the way). There are 6 or 7 young adults (15 to 20 years old) being charged for the murders and attempted murders. Apparently they were using handguns with at least two of them fitted with Glock switches which are illegal. Approximately 90 shots were filed. The media interviewed one of the suspect’s relatives who, of course, claimed their innocence because they’ve never been in trouble before. This was certainly expected but what she said next is what caught my attention. She said that the person holding the party should have hired security and where were the police to prevent this shooting from happening. Keep in mind that this is a very small town and it was a 16 year old‘s birthday party, would you think security would be necessary? Should the police have to stand vigil outside and monitor the birthday party?The suspects in the shooting apparently weren’t invited to the party and weren’t from Dadeville, they were from other towns. This is another indicator of culture gone bad on so many levels. A motive for the shooting hasn’t been released but you can bet it’s likely related to some sort of perceived disrespect.

Yeah, this is complete "It's someone else's fault" nonsense. In what world should a sweet 16 party be expected to hire security and have police around to protect them from a bunch of thugs? Her relative and his friends acted like animals. It's on them. Period.

Unfortunately, events in recent years have made that necessary. It shouldn't be that way, but it is.

Unfortunately, we are in a time where security might be necessary at any event or function where there is more than 1 person present due to the unpredictability of any other person. We now have security personnel at airports, train stations, concert events, retail stores, shopping malls, funerals, weddings, parties, restaurants, schools, flea markets, daycare centers, hospitals, etc.……pretty much everywhere people gather. And most of this has transpired within the last 20 years. Not saying everything was always rosy prior to that but the escalation has been astounding.

We've been assured that San Fransisco is still one of the world's great cities, that there's no crime problem there, and that any businesses leaving are just making normal business decisions and not fleeing because of the crime, safety issues, open air drug markets, and homeless people turning the streets and sidewalks into public toilets.
Apparently Nordstrom is joining the long list of other businesses just making normal business decisions to close stores that have nothing to do with the above issues.

(Bloomberg) -- Nordstrom Inc. plans to give up its store in downtown San Francisco, becoming the latest retailer to depart the area as the city struggles with emptied office buildings and crime concerns.
“The dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years, impacting customer foot traffic to our stores and our ability to operate successfully,” Jamie Nordstrom, chief stores officer, wrote in letter to employees Tuesday.
The company will vacate more than 300,000 square feet (28,000 square meters) of space at Westfield San Francisco Centre on Market Street, a shopping and tourist area in the heart of downtown. It also plans to close a nearby Nordstrom Rack.
In the past few weeks alone, retailers including Office Depot and Anthropologie have both said they would shut their Market Street-adjacent locations. The closure of a nearby Whole Foods has been another flash point for San Francisco after the grocer cited safety concerns as a reason for leaving.

The retail departures are the latest gut punch to a city that’s already grappling with the tech industry downturn and the crises engulfing Silicon Valley Bank and First Republic Bank, two of the region’s most prominent financial institutions. Office workers have been slow to return and companies including Salesforce Inc. and Meta Platforms Inc. are ditching office space, hurting small businesses in the area struggling to survive. City officials have forecast a $780 million deficit in the next two fiscal years.
San Francisco’s homelessness crisis and public safety concerns also are concentrated in downtown, leading to spasms of highly publicized retail theft and outcry from retailers that the city isn’t doing enough.
“The planned closure of Nordstrom underscores the deteriorating situation in downtown San Francisco,” the Westfield mall’s owner, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said in a statement. “A growing number of retailers and businesses are leaving the area due to the unsafe conditions for customers, retailers, and employees, coupled with the fact that these significant issues are preventing an economic recovery of the area.”
City Response
Mayor London Breed’s office said in a statement that she sought to assuage security concerns by bolstering law enforcement presence, including having two San Francisco Police Department officers inside the mall every day.
She also said that the Nordstrom location was a subject of concern before San Francisco’s latest economic downtown. Nordstrom closed another location in San Francisco’s Stonestown Galleria in 2019. Meanwhile, Paris-based Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield is trying to leave to leave the US market entirely.
“Westfield came to us a number of years ago with concerns about the long-term viability of this location for Nordstrom,” Breed’s office said. “The city has been eager to get a concrete plan from them that we could explore, however, they never brought us anything for review.”
The San Francisco Business Times reported Nordstrom’s planned departure earlier Tuesday. In its letter to employees, the company said it instead will focus on its 16 other locations in the Bay Area and its online sales.
California state senator Scott Wiener tweeted that the closing was “horrible & tragic” but underscored the need to re-imagine downtown San Francisco and address public safety concerns.
“Current conditions are untenable for SF’s future success,” Wiener said.

I understand the idea behind the law allowing this, and there's certainly a valid use for it, but it's also been badly abused at times too. I'd like to see the civil asset forfeiture law stay, but it be much easier for citizens to recover their money if they're innocent, and there be a bigger burden on law enforcement to justify seizures. It's the culture they're in. A 12 year old and his 6 year old brother was just arrested in Philly for armed robbery. I'm not kidding.
Young women from urban areas are literally telling men on their Instagram stuff like 'don't walk up to me unless you got 3 bodies on you'.
