What do you all prefer for advanced rating systems? Sp+, fpi, SOR? They seem to be kind of broken this year.

FPI is a crock of shit this year. ND is 8 and Wisconsin, 2-2 Wisconsin, is number 4. Oklahoma and UGA, both with two losses also, are 5 and 6 respectively.

FPI is not a current ranking system, it's a predictor of rankings and of games. Don't ever assume it means Wisconsin is better outright.

I understand it's a predictive tool but that's just semantics. The credibility of FPI is lost, whether it's predictive or otherwise, when it places a 2-2 team or a 6-2 team ahead of a 10-0 team with similar power 5 sos.

They use the past 4 years, with emphasis on the previous year for these predictions. I never look at FPI as, "they think Wisconsin is better than Notre Dame." It just means how they expect Wisconsin would do against an average team. Honestly, once I started doing that I have given FPI less of a care, and more of "huh so that's where they have teams."

But aren't they saying that Wisconsin would beat an average team more soundly than Notre Dame because Wisconsin is ranked higher?

Right, but look at the past four years and some of the spreads that have occurred for ND against average teams. We've all complained numerous times that the backups didn't get in because we let an average Vandy, Ball St, or Pitt team hang around. So that fits the narrative...

Does the FPI go back four years? Perhaps I am looking at it differently, as in if UW and ND were to play at home against a team lower, say 25th TCU, Wisconsin would be favored by more than ND because it's based on past results as well as this year's results?

Yeah it goes back 4, with the previous year having the most weight. That's also why you don't see massive jumps in the FPI after one game over another big team. They are taking such large amounts of data and such to compile the scores.

I'm not saying it's perfect, there are plenty of flaws in the system (like why does a game from 2017 even matter in 2020), but knowing this stuff allows for me to not be agitated by the FPI rankings.

The Big10 will bend the rules so Ohio State can play in the championship game.

The bigger question is, if they go 6-0, will the committee drop them from the 4 spot (or what will it take for them to do so, Clem close win, UF close win?).

was the 6 game rule for B1G six conference games, or just six games total?

They weren't supposed to have any OOC games so I doubt they made a distinction there.

If OSU lost to UM this weekend they would still be in the CCG. But not getting to play keeps them out? It's a dumb rule and it should be changed.

SEC commissioner is calling out the ACC, saying it’s protecting Clemson and ND by not having them play this week.

Talk about protecting teams, his conference is notorious for having the top teams avoid each other across the division. Alabama played Georgia in the regular season this year for the first time since ‘14, and hasn’t had to face Florida since ‘15. While in that same span they got to face Kentucky and Missouri (also both East teams) twice.

Dabo has a good counter, while also taking another shot at OSU:

"If the ACC was trying to really protect Clemson and Notre Dame, why would we even play a game this week?" Swinney said. "I mean, if six wins can get you in the playoff, shouldn't nine get you there? Shouldn't 10 get you there?"

Sankey can kick rocks. His teams play 1AA teams every year.

I don't believe it's a "6 games" rule, but rather a certain amount below the average for the conference. Only Big10 specific.

Could be wrong, but I think it was 6 games, unless the average of all games played in conference fell below a certain number, which I think was also 6.

Since the Big 10 said they would not play any non-conference games, this was obviously isolated to Big 10 games only.

You joke but this wouldn’t be the first time the Rose Bowl was moved from California. I suspect Kelly wouldn’t have driven this point home so hard if it wasn’t a unified front from the other coaches.

The only thing keeping the Rose Bowl in Pasadena is ESPN not wanting to lose sponsorship money if they can't call it the Rose Bowl.

Absolutely love BK (and ND) swinging the hammer here.

Also, would be the most 2020 thing ever for us to qualify for the playoff and then refuse to play it lol
