Why should fans stay for four quarters if the product on the field is garbage? I'm not talking about Oklahoma because we had a chance the whole game but I'm not sticking around if we're down by 30 after 3. I don't owe the players a damn thing. I'm a paying customer. If my steak is undercooked, I send it back. If my Amazon package arrives broken, I return it. Since when are fans obligated to stand by an inferior product?

Kap going off is really disappointing. I know students have done some questionable things before like throwing snowballs at players and booing occasionally when perhaps we shouldn't. But at the end of the day we stand there for 4 hours regardless of how s****y the team looks. I stood there for four hours in the rain freshman year while the team got dismantled by Stanford. So for him to make blanket statements about all fans is extremely disappointing to me.

*Edit: Just saw what he last tweeted, which is all good and well. But still think he's a bit off base, but that's just my opinion.

Kap was mostly addressing the people bashing Rees on twitter. There were a lot of fans saying some terrible things. He is not off-base here at all and I love the passion and loyalty he still shows to this team and university.

If i'm not wrong, people must pay 80-100 dollars per game to go to the stadium. They can leave early if they want, they can express his disappointment and they can boo if they think the team has not showing heart. Obviously always will be some idiots (like everywhere) but he is generalizing with one of the most loyal fanbases in the country. Unfair.

That's the dumbest analogy I have ever heard in my life.

Fairweather fans aren't obligated to stand by an inferior product.

*Edit: I'm not saying I agree with Kap's rant. But these are kids man, and ND student-athletes. Not some product you ordered.

Congrats for standing and watching....but he fought, sweated and blew out his knee for ND. IMO that carries a lil more weight. Most of the fans don't know what it's like to put in the work, sweat, blood and tears for a school, which is entirely different than being the most diehard fan. The work and dedication is beyond understanding for those who have never lived it. Once again just my opinion.

Are ND fans really that naive? The guys don't give a damn about school, the students, or the fans, with very few exceptions. At best, the "character" guys care about the team and the rest are thinking about themselves and their draft status. They want to win, sure, but it's not for you or me or Our Lady's University.

Apologies, I meant to say WE as in ALL the students, not me in particular. I just think his opinion that students "leave early" all the time is incorrect. Every game I have been in the student section, it has been full to the very end, and that includes some pretty rough losses.

But I agree with the sentiment that people need to stop bashing a bunch of 18-22 year olds for not PLAYING A GAME the way we would like them to.

The players skipping the alma mater is selfish and I don't know why Coach would ok that. That being said, I didn't stay until the final seconds ticked off because that adds another hour onto my commute home after the game. ND football is a big part of my life but I spend $2,500 dollars a year to attend football games and I'm not going to give one ounce of care to what a former player thinks about me leaving early or booing terrible football.

Again, I'm pretty sure Kap was directing his frustration at the students (even though he might have said fans in the tweets). I'm sure he is aware of those that have commutes after the game. He really means students (at least that is my educated guess).

I didn't bother to read the other responses to this, but let me answer.

They don't want your business. Never 'order a product' from Notre Dame again.

Go ahead and 'return' your fandom. They owe you nothing.

Your post is the epitome of everything I hate about fans of college football. We need less of you around.

****ing pitiful.

I think what some of us are not realizing, is that (I am pretty sure) what Kap is saying is, "Hey, if you aren't all in with the team, and staying til the end of the game, and only booing the other team, then you have no right to complain about players not sticking around for the Alma Mater." I'm not in his head, but I would bet that he would tell those of you who have a reason to leave early that that is fine. Just don't complain about the team going right into the tunnel.

But again, I think the important thing to recognize here, is that most people are saying that, if you are going to stick around and sing the alma mater when you win, then you can't just trot off into the locker room when you lose, without doing it. Especially if there are thousands of students waiting to show solidarity with you, in a loss.

Sorry you feel that way but I'm sick of feeling like I care about the team more than the coaches and players do. Manti was the first player in years to make me feel otherwise but I feel like that was a flash in the pan rather than a sign of any systematic change. I don't have a ton on money but I spend a good bit of it to go to campus once a year and it just isn't appealing to get scolded by the lady in the fur coat behind me for being rude while watching a lackluster performance.

Well said. The "solidarity" argument is much more compelling if we're talking about students rather than all fans. The students should be there for every snap.

I was at that navy game in the meadowlands and there were some pretty harsh words being thrown around to the team (I was right above the tunnel notre dame walked/ran through). However, we were all upset with how the team played with no pride whatsoever. This is where kap has it wrong. We don't need to act like everything the team does is perfect, if they don't play with pride were gonna be pissed and if they don't stay for the alma mater were gonna be pissed. If this really was an order by kelly( which if it was I'm so beyond pissed at Kelly I mean it's one of our best traditions, my favorite in fact) then we don't need to be entirely upset with the players but lets just see some more pride

Save your money bro! You have no clue what it's like to bleed for a team/Univeristy. You are the equivelent of a back seat driver...

I'll bleed for the team when THEY bleed for the university. Sound fair?

I love this school more than just about anything in the world. That's why this makes me furious. The team is supposed to serve the University, not the other way around.

The last thing I would want to do after a loss is stick around on the field any longer than it takes to jog off, but that's because I was always so disgusted by losing that it would be worthless for me to talk to other human beings before I had an opportunity to cool down.

However, I did not attend ND, so I'm not trying to argue whether this is right, wrong or indifferent.

I simply wanted to share how I would feel as a player.

Congrats, easy to say from a keyboard. Strap on a helmet and live the life of a player and judge. I assure they bleed for the university. The only bleeding you will do for a university is probably getting a paper cut holding a ticket. You are clueless to what the life of a football player is...the countless hours, the pain, the frustration, the assbag fans..

Cam did.

Nobody is asking for the fans or the students to serve the team. Kap was sharing the frustration of the fans and defending Rees and other players that were being killed on Twitter.

Poor guys. Pardon my lack of sympathy but I just finished paying $40,000 in debt for my degree from Notre Dame. I didn't get free clothes and shoes and bags and food and tuition and housing and tutoring and a private hangout.

I'm not mad at Kap, I'm mad at Kelly.

I agree about Cam, but his attitude should be the rule, not the exception.

"If you had a tenth of the heart of Ruettiger, you'd have made All-American by now!"

That should be posted on DD's locker.
