Not suprised. It pretty much had to be done. Whether you agree with it or not, this is the world we live in today.

Paterno equals a high level politician in my book. The only thing that can destroy you is being caught with a dead woman or a little boy. I'm sure Paterno knew something when Jerry Sandusky "retired" at age 55 in 1999.

I've always had respect for Joe Paterno. He graduated his kids and APPEARED to do it the right way, when it came to college football.

I just saw that he cancelled his press conference after they tried to tell the media that he would not answer questions regarding the scandal. I now know what he truly is, a COWARD.

I find it sickening that he did not report this to actual authorities when he saw nothing was done. I know he fullfilled his legal obligation, but if I did as little as he did as an educator I would be fired and would expect to be.

This man sickens me and I wish he would receive jail time too. To do what he did, or did not do, is a disgrace to man kind.

Good news! I wonder how they'll skew this to let him "go out with dignity." Looking forward to all of his wins being vacated...

The reason they are going to get rid of him is to "clean house."They want to go in a whole new direction with a new AD and probably a new President.

It has already been shown Paterno did everything the right way.As soon as he was given info. involving the assaults he went to his AD and President of the School. He did his job and the right thing. That is exactly why the grand jury and prosecutors have said they are not looking at Paterno AT ALL.

Even though I don't particularly like PSU, it will be a sad day in the sporting world when Paterno is gone. One of the greatest ever.

He didn't cancel it...PSU did. Paterno was going to go in there and tell flat out everything that happened according to his family.

But the state police did question why he didn't call the police?

Joe Pa should step down. And this former coach was allowed in the weight room as of last week!!

Way to lead the program Joe Pa! Why would he allow him to even come anywhere near his football team? IMO Joe Pa is culpable in this case!

Absolutely gross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If this is true, there has to be something done. Really sickening.

As far as I can see that would be the AD or President's responsibility.
Paterno went up the chain of command the correct way to make sure everything was done properly, and his superiors didn't do anything at all(which is why they are going to go to prison for a VERY LONG time.)
From everything I'm seeing he did everything the right way.Of course,no of us have all the facts yet,but that is how it looks.

I don't think its sad or a shame how his coaching career ends if everything went down how it seems it did. The sad part is this not coming out until the week after he got his 409th win. That is a JOKE.

Last I checked this is America, and no man can stop me or Joe Paterno from talking to the media. Once again, he is a COWARD. I thought we had freedom of speech. Looks to me like he is hiding behind the school.

This is sad... people will try to exonerate Paterno because of his legacy. Personally, I don't care how many stupid games he won... I also don't care if he did what was legally necessary. He knew what was going on and continued to work with this guy. Can you imagine working with someone you knew was a pedophile? What would you think? "Well, I told my boss about it... maybe I'll just wait another 10 years... oh gosh, there he goes again!"

Give me a break. I have no pity for creatures like this. He should be fired, not allowed to resign. The university should call him out for what he is.

Paterno did not do it the right way. He did just enough to talk responsibility off of him. Nothing stopped him from going to the police. If he knew this happend he should have went to the police.

What if this was your child? Would you want someone to tell their boss or the police?

Ok then due explain to me why Joe still let him have acess to the Weight room and other parts of the college.? This is just reports that i have read. This seems to be going into the same direction that the whole OSU deal did. The longer this goes on more come out.

Superiors? This is where you're are wrong. Joe Pa doesn't have superiors on that campus. Why do think he is still there? He is the superior.

Anytime the harm of a child is indicated you should do anything in your power to resolve the issue. Seems like a lot of hush hush went around that campus, including by Joe Pa.

Really dude? are you serious?
If your boss says you don't speak to the media, or suffer the consequences, you don't speak to the media.Plain and simple.
There is a legal process going on right now involving PSU, and they can't afford for someone, including the FB coach, to say something that might hurt them potentially in court.

Did everything right?? Did he allow this former coach access to his team since the day that he "reported it" If so, he didn't do what is right.

He is the head coach, he can say who is and who is not involved with the team (outside the president and AD). So, he can allow who and what he wants around his team. And he allowed this coach access.

So, IMO he is in the wrong. And if he is shown the door, we will know for sure he is in the wrong.

Yes, how conveint to have this surface after that coaching milestone? Conspiracy? Who knows, but this makes me sick to my stomach. If this is true, I hope this guy/and guys get the book thrown at them.

What do you mean 'the world we live in today?' I'm pretty sure his action (or lack thereof) would be unacceptable in any moral time or place.

You have any kids? If you did and you heard what he heard directly from McQueary, you'd have gone straight to the police. I know I would have. As soon as he realized nothing was getting done, he should have done it himself. Shame on him.

Paterno's son is trying to set up an off campus press conference so Joe can answer questions.

How can you stand behind Joe Paterno right now? If someone came to you at work and told you a subordinate was molesting children in the office bathroom, would you continue to work with that person? I doubt it. Personally, I wouldn't wait for "my superiors" to handle it. That person would be fired that day and the police would be notified.

Sometimes theft can be warranted... sometimes even murder.... but molesting a child?
Never.

I am no guy fawning all over Paterno.Yes,he has been a great coach for a long time.
However, yes,Paterno DOES have superiors. Several actually. If you need me to run down the list,it's the same at EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL. NO coach is above his superiors.

As far as I can tell, he found out the information, and then went directly to his Athletic Director and President to tell them what he was TOLD. Paterno did not physically see anything happen as far as we know right now. As far as JoePa goes, you cant fire someone based off of a rumor that a player told you....that leads you down a long road of wrongful termination lawsuits.
He went to his superiors and told them what he heard, that way his superiors could do their job, investigate the matter, and take action. That's relatively cut and dry. You do that with ANY job when a matter like this happens.

We know he went to his superiors... but afterwards, he should have done something more. It sounds like everyone else on campus knew something was up... so surely Mr. Joe knew that this was not a one-time event. But we will see soon.

Irish4life09- i have said some stupid stuff on this board but you have taken the cake. It is sad you condone this type of behavior and feel that Paterno did everything he could. God forbid this happens to anyone you ever care about. Because only then will you truly understand that Paterno is a terrible person for doing nothing.
